This is insane, first the laser on my DVD RW stops reading DVDs (only works with CDs) and now my Polaroid TV/DVD player stops reading DVDs! Sure, I have 5 or 6 other players but why couldn't one of them stop working? The DVD RW drive was the only thing I had to burn and the TV/DVD player was an all in one for the bedroom, now I'll have to hook another player up to it and take up more room. END RANT

No, I changed the region on my laptop for all the R2 DVDs. The DVD RW drive stopped working so I updated the drivers, flashed the drive, and it still just reads cds. The TV/DVD player would say Unable To Play Region Code (I tried before) but instead simply says Wrong Disc. Wrong Disc? What the hell is the right disc?!?!?

Most DVD players (in computers) allow 5 region changes, 4 after the initial set-up. I changed the laptop to R2 and have 3 changes left. If I need to use it for R1 again I'll probably end up buying AnyDVD.

Well it was Nightwatch... but I tried other DVDs too. :)

Get DVD-Region Free. great piece of software, been using it for years. It runs in the background tricking your DVD player/software into thinking it's a Region free DVD drive.

That's a different computer, on my desktop I didn't change the region (the broken DVD RW is on my desktop). Still says Region 1 on my broken drive. I just hate mechanical failure, especially when it's two so closely together. Just an excuse to get a better burner I guess. I have the Sony DVD RW DW-22A right now.

online freeware ?

It's not free unfortunately. Around 3/4 years ago I managed to get hold of a legit free version, I've never needed to upgrade it.

Well I fixed the TV, and the DVD R still burns CDs which will hold me over for a couple of weeks until I get a new one (burning a few school cds for the wife now, An Interactive Cadaver Dissection Experience... fun).
