does anyone like pantera as much as i do???
when i feel sad i listen to pantera
when i feel mad i listen to pantera
when i feel like saying "fuck the world" i listen to pantera
i got the best of album...these guys are awesome....in the late 90's when they came out with "rap mixed with metal" they kept making metal music and kicked ass....

They aren't exactly my favorite band, but when I want some metal it just doesn't get much more metal than Pantera. Kind of makes me want to fight.

Meh
They're OK, but nothing special IMO.

I think some of their stuff is great and the drummer, along with some of the guitar work is very well done and creative. As far as heavy metal goes I'd put them way up there on my list but they're far from one of the best bands out there.

I never cared all that much for heavy metal. Pantera's ok, but like everyone knows, i'm "way too mainstream"

"Vulgar Display Of Power "was a very important record at the time of it's release.
Pussy "hair" Metal was still a little bit popular and Pantera put out VDOP and finally killed it off for good. I love that record. :D It's completely BRUTAL.
The 2 records that followed "Far Beyond Drivin" and "The Great Southern Trendkill" were also just as good. I didn't like "Reinventing the Steel" that much. I guess it's because that's when Phil's Heroin problem was spiraling out of control.

What's very amusing is that Pantera started out as one of those "pussy hair metal" bands.

far beyond drivin' was more brutal than VDOP because they all kicked ass every song...and there was so much cussing 575757 F bombs the songs were hardcore and in your face...but VDOP you cant forget walk, mouth for war

Glam rock Pantera cracks me up. Those pics were awhile before Cowboys came out. There's a picture of one of Phil Anselmo's bands pre-Pantera thats even worse haha.
I've got a couple of friends that are in a glam rock band. They haven't quite hit the transvestite looking stage yet.

That's part of why I don't like Pantera. They did a complete image reversal from Poison-esque glammers into hardcore tough guys when the hair metal thing ran out of steam.

I'm not a big fan, I realy like some songs from Vulgar display of Power and Far beyond Driven (like 5 minutes alone) Otherwise the best part from Pantera came from Dame Bagg's guitar sound, now I'm enjoing "Rebel meets Rebel" album, good and powerfull album to kicked out all worries.
On metal music my preferences doesnt go more far than Anthrax, Judas Preast, Black Sabbath and the pre-load shit era of Metallica.

I'm more of a punker, but when it comes to hard rock/metal, Pantera is where I turn. Dimebag was a madman on the guitar & the drummer is insane too. I actually got a chance to see them play live once (for free no less!) so that was pretty sweet. Morbid Angel & Deicide opened, then Static X, then Slayer, and finally Pantera. That show was a metalheads wet dream. I really was only there to see Pantera & Static X (and because I got a free ticket) but it was pretty cool.

In all honesty, the image is not important to me. I listen mostly to (arguably) faceless electronic stuff. I just feel that Pantera lack sincerity, which does bother me.

No, you WERE being confrontational. YOU were the one that said "your opinion sucks" without backing up that statement whatsoever. Practice what you preach, please. I wasn't trying to be a dick until you were. There, I'm done with this.

Okay. I feel kinda bad about this stupid argument. It's very easy to misconstrue what others say on message boards, and I think I was a little out of line calling you a troll. I'm more than willing to bury the hatchet if you are.

Yes I am.I didn't mean for my comment to come off the way you took it.I am sorry if it offended you, it was not meant to but looking back I can see why you took it the way you did, it was poorly worded.

When I listen to metal, I want screaming, blast beats, 2 steps and breakdowns.
In short, not a fan of pantera at all.
do you even listen to pantera??? you obviously missed the screaming..unless you think of screaming as "cradle of filth" screaming.....heavy metal is all i listen to...i hate emo bands who think they can cover up their lameness by screaming in their songs..sorry that isnt true metal....

No I dont listen to Pantera. I don't listen to music I'm not a fan of. Have I before? Yes. Not my gig.
As for what I DO listen to, metalwise...
Suffokate
Stick to your Guns
All Shall Perish
Beneath The Sky
Through The Eyes of The Dead
Fear Before the March of Flames
Converge
that kinda stuff.
Also, I hate people who use terms like "true metal". It's that kind of superlative trash technology that closes minds. I hardly think you, or anyone else, is in a position to determine what is and isn't "true metal".
and you are???? and BTW mention some metal bands that we have actually heard of

How about you expand your musical horizons?
All of those except suffokate are well known bands and signed to relatively big labels. So if you haven't heard of them, it's your fault for not looking for new music, not mine.
And I never said I was in a position to determine what is and isn't "true metal", I was pointing out that YOU arent.
i like some rap, alternative and some of the oldies i like
bob seger, rolling stones, beatles, stevie wonder,...there are so many i cant name them but most of my interest is in metal.....i never said i was true metal... but...

I've been listening to Metal since I was a kid, but for some reason I can't understand, I never really liked Pantera. I prefer traditional Heavy Metal or really extreme stuff, so I guess they just fall somewhere in between...
