I've got the same sickness. It's not so bad. Even though I still have over 100 movies I haven't logged into my dvdaficionado account, I can't stop buying. I made myself stop to save money for the move. Every time I pass by the video store the tears start welling up. I promised myself that I could spend $500 on the next deepdiscountdvd 20%off sale though, so that makes it a little better.

yep, the only part of the equation you need to work out is how you're going to provide the electricity these things require when you're dirt broke and out on the road :)
Sounds like the rantings of an angry rabbit aviator to me!

Don't feel bad urge, I have an addiction also. It isn't as bad as yours considering I only own 350 DVDs but when I get money the first thing that pops into my head is, go to EB Games and get DVDs 3 for $10 or go to Wal-Mart and check out the $5.50 bin.
It's quite sad.

well, lets just say the bills get paid and we arent starving .. i do have a common sense threshhold ..
but we could have gone to australia and back 3 times on what i've spent - and since thats actually a goal of mine .. i need to put a damper on the spending.
Sell 'em all (except maybe the lasar discs) you'll feel soooo much better! A routine purge is good for the soul...of course you'll ignore me, but I had to say it.
Don't let your possessions own you.

urge... You should sell 2/3rds of your movies. You know there's hundreds you will never watch anyways and you could take the fam on a nice vacation with all the cash you make.
dont sell em, collect em for your kids children so theyll know what a sick grandpa they had.

As long as you're paying your bills & have enough money to eat, I think it's fine to love movies. Hell, I'm obsessed with them. I still average about 100 a year. Wish I had the money to buy more than that. Sometimes it's not even about watching them (although I intend to watch every one I get) They're like thicker, larger baseball cards to me. Love them, love showing them to my friends, especially when I get the rarer ones. Watching them is a great side benefit. I loves me some movies!:)

Same here, I'll buy imports with special packaging, new releases with different features... just something I love to collect.

Im not that bad yet, but I can definatly forsee it in my future.
I signed up for Zip.ca and told myself I'd cut down on buying...not doing too bad, but could do better. Every single penny or giftcard that I got for Christmas went toward DVD...easily over $150 worth over a day or two.

hey, they hold their value somewhat (if you buy them used)
if you luck out and buy something that goes OOP then you're even ahead of the game.
there are worse things to spend money on.
Exactly what I tell my parents when they say I spend too much;)

So I shouldn't be sending you anymore DVDs huh Urge? :D
I'm moving into a new place next week and I have boxes and boxes of VHS and a bunch of DVDs. I was thinking fuck this is getting outta control but then I remember the pics of your collection and feel better about the situation haha.
I've got roomates at this pad so I'm gonna have to have all that shit cramed into my bedroom.
i think its time to start archiving the rarer stuff on beta to DVDr though
Definatley worth doing. I've got bunch that I don't think will ever see the light of day on DVD.

I've got the same problem with buying books. Used bookstores are my favorite. I'll sometimes pick up 20-30 books in a day at one of those places.
