This sounds so exciting! My goal is to some day have one of my books optioned for a movie. I don't think I could write the screenplay, though. Very different writing.

Yeah, I'm afraid of the novel form. I'm rather addicted to the streamlined and structured nature of the screenplay. I find the restrictions liberating.
The novel is so stylistically wide open that I can never find my voice.
but songwriting or poetry, those are my favorites.

Had a crush on her since Pump up the Volume
She's fucking amazing actress... leaves the majority that are "rated" totally in the dust for me, strong preformance in everything I've seen (weather the flick is my kinda deal or not).

So far i find the whole thing very intimidating. I have a really good feel for the flow and structure of a short story, and so far the novel thing is pretty comfortable too (although a little overwhelming in scope)...
I want to write movies more than anything, but the feel of it terrifies me. I have a certain degree of self-doubt that doesnt exist in the less structured formats. When i think about it, it is bizarre, too. I am a programmer, which is a VERY structured writing style, but it is well within my comfort zone.

This is excellent news Rod! Keep the ball rolling!
And since you are in re-writes anyways, I highly suggest throwing in some nude scenes for Samantha Mathis. ;)

sorry to disappoint, but there is no nudity in DAMNED - it just doesn't fit. At least not female nudity.
There is a great deal of blood, though... and a little genital-torture:eek:
Hey, then it will probably be an easy sell to get my wife to see it with me, nudity usually pulls her right out of the movie.
I just hope "genital torture" doesnt cause any inspiration...

Genital torture hmmm? Are we talking a Bondage/S&M porn genital torture or Nine Inch Nails' Happiness in Slavery video genital torture or James Bond, lazer slowly cutting up towards the crotch genital torture? :D If you don't want to ruin anything for us I'll understand and congrats on this success as well.
Roderick Usher

HA! I wouldn't want to ruin it for anyone.
Good news is the line producer is flying to Mirrouri tomorrow to set up the production office - which means we are officially in preproduction and will be filming in 6 weeks! It has been a long haul getting to this point. We were originally slated to start principle photography last June.
Oh well, indie film is a tricky thing.
Might have to his little miss Haunted up for a blessing.

I'm right outside of Philadelphia. The market here tends to be pretty slow. Up until this point I've only done a few industrials, student films, and shitty extra work but I am very good at it and I will succeed as soon as I decide to get my ass in gear!

Yeah I used to be an actor, even made a living at it for a while. If you're serious you'll have to get your ass to NYC or LA. Sounds cliche, but cliches exist because there's a certain truth to them.
I tried to do it from D.C. but it just doesn't work. NYC is a short train ride from Philly.:)

New York City is close enough. Unfortunately, I hate the place. I wouldn't be keen to jumping into the Los Angeles thing until I have had tons of experience. I'm working on it slowly but surely...

It's too bad they couldn't have gotten it to work-out with Nick Cannon. Tom who? That's all I'm sayin' ;)
Nikon's dual sex appeal would have put the asses in the seats. Well it would have got the dvds rented from blockbuster.

Nick Cannon? Not really right for the role and was never even close to a consideration. Our lead, Abraham, is a religious zealot living as far from society as possible, and Tom Budge is going to be brilliant in the role.
Our Australian members probably know Tom Budge from films like CANDY, LAST TRAIN TO FREO and THE PROPOSITION
He is an incredible actor who will soon be a household name. I couldn't be more excited to have him in our film. He's waaay better than several other "name actors" who were vying for the part.

haha I guess I was misinformed. :) I agree that he's a good actor and a much better choice than nick who's "thing" is really comedy. Even if you don't find him funny, that's what he's best at. (which means he really shouldn't be doing serious movies... or rapping hehe)

We just cleared another hurdle!!!
The script has a rather odd scene (go figure) in which our antagonist bonds with the son of our protagonist over a Darth Vader action figure. The studio and producers loved the scene but swore we'd never get the rights .
We got the letter from Lucasfilm today granting rights. It's a sign that things are going our way!

The Director is in Kansas City and we are in full-on preproduction. The director is going mental over microscopic script changes, so we're constantly emailing pages back and forth, but I've seen some more concept sketches and they're pretty cool.
Gonna have a movie soon!!!!

this is the production sketch for the attic (it's a cabin in the woods tale) in which our protagonists find a rather chilling surprise
It'll be dressed with flowing gauze and embroidered tapestries to add depth, but this is the general idea. So cool to see images that have (until know) existed solely in our heads.

That's awesome! Is there any estimation for a DAMNED release date yet? 1 year out? 2? Any idea?
One thing I was wondering though... What are alll the letters written on the walls for?

You'll just have to wait to see what the letters on the wall are:)
That's putting the cart a bit ahead of the horse. We still need to shoot. And I recently got word that I will have a role in the film - so you'll see me on screen (for a blip)

So, we're in the heart of pre-production, rewriting like mad to make sure everything is absolutely perfect fbefore cameras roll and the director calls me. He tells me we finally nailed out make-up effects artist...
