I put this in the General horror foum becuase i wanted to know sooner. I saw this movie yesterday, and it was beyond awesome. Great clausterphobic enviroment, tons of scares, and to top it off, awesome gore. but I do have some questions:

SPOILERS:

The ending: I got the unrated version, so what did the american theaters ending consist of? the "really bad ending"? did it cut off just when she found her friend in the car or what?


And there was also one of the monsters who seemed to have a full head of hair....is this one of her friends that turned into one of them or something?

The hairy one was a female. No one "turned into" the creatures they are a seperate bit of evolution from homo sapiens sapiens

The US release ended with the bloody-eyed Juno in the passenger seat (very J-horror) and not the Brazil-esque ending the rest of the world saw.

So in Australia we got the ending where after she made it to the car she came to and realised she was still underground with no hope. Did the american version cut of while she was still in the dream sequence?

Exactly the same here. The Descent was not only fantastic, but a pleasant reminder of one of the greatest films ever, Carpenter's The Thing.

Unrelenting tone, from start to finish; sense of isolation and claustrophobia. Not to mention the musical score, which almost owes Ennio (edit: and Carpenter) a spot in the credits.

Plenty, but I'll keep this brief and simply point out that the monsters were not even mildly scary and ruined what was an otherwise promising film. I could relate to the characters and feel their building terror about being trapped in a cave. I was really getting into the flick, but once the silly monsters appeared, the atmosphere was ruined. The terror of being trapped underground was replaced by something that just wasn't scary.

As I said in one of the many other threads on this film, The Descent was the biggest disappointment since the monster in Jeepers Creepers was revealed. In both cases, an initially promising flick went downhill fast and never recovered.

Am not really sure about the fuss over this movie. It's okay but nothing great. I dont know any people (in real life i.e. in England) that thought it was anything over 3/5. Everyone that seems to love it dont seem to be from England, which is weird because you'd think it would be the other way around.

I think I've said somewhere before that maybe thats why foreign countries enjoy it more, because its a bit more of a novelty I guess. 28 Days Later and Dog Soldiers to me were both just "okay" and once again people from US etc seem to think they are great.

I guess its like how I love asian cinema even though I'm from England, its new and unique to what I'm used to and it could be the same for this for you guys.
