Do the personal wheelings and dealings of entertainers inbfluence wether you will watch/liste/read/etc any of their work?

I try to seperate myself from as much as possible from who they are as real humans and just focus on their work, but i'll be honest, i fail at this a lot.

Jennifer Lopez for one. I cant stand her as a person. From what i have seen, she is superficial, selfish and greeedy. But, i watched Enough a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it, she was good.

Tom Cruise.... He represents much of what i cant stand about cults, religions, arrogance, ignorance... I cringe when i see he is in a movie now, and typically arent very interested once i see that he is (War of the Worlds and MI# will probably remain unwatched by me), but The Last Samurai is just too good to not see simply because i cant stand the main actor.

Some are real easy. Roman Polanski, for example. I dont like anything i have ever seen by him. I have seen Rosemary's baby, Pirates and teh 9th gate, and didtn care for any of them. Add to that he is a rapist (and technically a pedophile), and i couldnt care less if he lives or dies. Lump Woody allen into that one too. i have never seena woody allen film that didnt grate on me the whole time, and he is a shitty human being.

On the same note, some of these people a really good people. Denzel Washington and his wife apparently buy tuys for homeless kids and hand deliver them for christmas. Add to that he is a damn good actor. love the guy.

Okay, so good examples are a little herder to come by, but you get the point.

couldn't give two shits about the personal life. Picasso was an asshole, but his work...life-changing

I'll still watch Tom Cruise

love Roman Polanski's films

it's all about the work for me, everything else is just noise.

I completely agree. With me, it is more a gut reaction to who the person is, at least as far as how they are portrayed. I realize you can never truly know how much is truth and how much is hype. i just cant always make that leap.

Paris Hilton could be an oscar-caliber actress, and i would not be able to get past who she is.

you got me there. Paris could create a work of staggering genius (far-fetched, I know) and I would never accept it. Filthy little shit.

And there are others whom I love so much that they can do no wrong in my book. Like John Waters:)

Same here. I know no one is completely pure, outsideinformation will pollute your thoughts at some point, i guess it just affects people to different degrees, and it largely depends on what they have done for those who it does.

I, for one, think Trent Reznor is infallible. I have never disliked a Nine Inch Nails song, and i have looked up to him as an amazing musician for over a decade.

I manage to remain rather uninformed about celebrity gossip. It has never been an interest, and I'd rather turn off the TV than be subjected to it. Not surprisingly, I don't see it having much influence.

The one exception was Tom Cruise. After seeing some of his comments on various blogs, I made up my mind that I would not buy anything from which he would make money. I think that is the only case.

I hope Paris Hilton steals John Waters sperm and has a baby. And Tom Cruise raises it with Angelina Jolie. I would also like to Renob to be adopted by Mary Kate Ashley Olsen twins.

Mel Gibson: Rascist. Far too into his political standpoint.

But excellent actor and even better director.

Totally agree...never watched one for more'n about ten minutes.

RE: Topic
Couldn't give a shit.
Entertaining is what they do, as their "job" not as their personal life.
I think as long as that line is drawn, then it really doesn't make a difference.
What you think of them personally shouldn't bias your opinion on their works either way, IMO, that would just be stupid.

What about Chinatown, The Pianist, and The Fearless Vampire Killers?

And you didn't like Rosemary's Baby?!
