I saw the original year ago, and I thought it was very good.

I've only heard bad things about the Cage remake.

The original is amazing...remake is just laughable.

The original will lose some impact with you know that you've seen the remake, but its still an incredible film.

I haven't seen the remake and never will. Sorry, IMO you can't beat Christopher Lee. No one can ever redo one of his films and have it be good.

The original Wicker Man is a true classic of the genre.

Nicholas Cage vs Christopher Lee

Well, everyone's already said what I was about to.

The original is a powerful and shocking film. I haven't seen the remake, and doubt I ever will.

There is one very odd and not-so-brilliant element to the Original: the soundtrack

god, that hippy-dippy shit really grates. I know it's thematically correct, but that music could have been much much better. Great film, though.

I DO want to see Neil Labute's version, simply because I've heard it being called one of the most misogynistic films of all time...women destroying men seems to be a recurring theme in Labute's work.

a lot of younger folk wont be impressed with the origional Wicker Man ..
its slow moving and not very flashy .. especially by todays standards.
most of the actors are over 30 as well.

if you dont mind an old school flick, with no gore and an oddball story.

personally i like it..

this makes me sad :( PEOPLE NEVER SEE THE REMAKE FIRST!

That seems strange to me also. I am a fan of Cage and would have liked to see the remake in the cinema but I never managed to get round to watching the original so I didnt go see the remake and Im glad I didnt. I would much rather watch the original then the remake.

I was thinking the exact same thing. about the bees. hmm I am intrested in seeing the dvd commentary and stuff but all that movie did was make me mad. if i was him would have just burn the whole village down.

Wicker Man was horrible. Quite predictable..and the ending was one of the worst ive seen...especially for me actually dedicating the rest of time to the movie.

The original is a classic, undoubtedly. At the time, it was shunned by critics and audiences, but grew to have a cult following. It is a true showcase in slow burning, disturbing horror, and the ending is one of the all time horror unforgettables. While the original was subtle, thoughtful and unique, the remake is blatant, badlt written, basfly acted and a disgrace to the unforgettable original. Do check it out if you can.

The Wicker Man is one of the most mature religious dialogues in horror, or modern cinema in general for that matter. The ending chills in part because you don't know whose fanaticism is right. It's intriguing because it could be an indictment of all faiths, or a call for more understanding views on the subject. A lot of examinations of religion in movies come out to "this man is an idiot because he believes this", and while it does make Christianity look square, it does not make it look altogether pathetic. It doesn't come down to whose god is bigger or whose god is real, which I think makes it extremely intelligent and well beyond the surface hippie propaganda. The depth of this dialogue makes it quite scary in my opinion. Through the eyes of the protagonist, Summerisle is Innismouth without the tentacles.

My feeling about the original was that I could enjoy it as a drama but not as a horror film. I liked it but I can't agree that it is horror.
