When A Stranger Calls, remake vs. original

I have seen both versions of the horror movie/thriller When A Stranger Calls. I personally think the original is a far better film, as it conveys genuine terror in the first 20 minutes, and the middle part is spent in a decent character development of the killer. The ending is very suspenseful and well done. The remake was definitely an inferior film, as the acting is not that great and there is generally no follow through. But that's just my opinion.

IMO it's like comparing apples and oranges. The original is far superior because it does more than focus on the "stalked babysitter" urban legend. That gets old after about 20 minutes. If you don't believe me, just watch the remake. That being said, my main problem with the remake is that it seems to be more occupied with setting things up for a sequel than providing a really good movie.

I started watching the old one and something better came up I think, I can't remember. Unless I just didn't feel like watching it after the first 10 minutes...

i've never seen the original. i'll have to look into it.
i actually kind of liked the new one. not scary, i just thought it was pretty good.
basically, it was not completely shitty, which is more than i can say for other new ones these days.
