:confused: high tension to me was a confusing movie. one minute their talking english, the next its in subtitles. what gives. i dont know about this lame film. the girl survivor was all useless. everybody talked about this film, why, i dont know.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was. A mindless fun film with many plot holes. It's one where you need to turn your brain off and just relax.


And as far as the half subbies half dubbies, that usually means that the subtitled parts were added to the DVD release so it could be the complete, uncut version of the film. The theatrical version most likely ommited the subtitled scenes, and when the unrated version came out on DVD they weren't able to dub those parts.

I really enjoyed this movie.Great gore and kills, but man was I pissed off at the end.There was just such a huge plot hole like alky said that it ruined the rest of the flick and made it all make no sense at all.

I think it was a good entertainer overall. Forget the plotholes, cuz every movie has em. It isnt supposed to be a masterful movie or an exceptional piece of horror movie-making, but it delivers a great atmosphere of terror. The characters being danced around as mere puppets in an exercise of grisly sadism is both revolting and unsettling.

Take out the ridiculous plot twist at the climax, and you have got one long blunt exercise which keeps slapping you in waves. Aja has done a commendable job with the movie, IMO. Not an easy movie to watch.

I saw it a while back.
Watched it in French as I recall, the dvd had both options.
I liked it...
I've notied a "plot hole" people seem to bring up a lot is "if there wasn't two cars in the first place (eg - him coming out of nowhere and following her), why the crash?", that would be due to the copious amounts of alcohol "he" drank throughout the film.
My only point of confusion is the scene at the beggining, as the two girls are driving to the house, the scene cuts to a completely different area where you see the "guy" er, degrade and dumb a severed head...see...not so much the difference in location, but the timing...if that was happening at the same time...would the other girl not have seen this?
Other than that...I liked it. Great atmosphere, good soundtrack, nice splatter.
No complaints.

IMO the pay-off made no sense. I found it (at the time) to have huge gaping holes.

But, I'd be willing to change my mind if someone explained it coherently. Of course I'd have to dig into my memory...nah, it's just not worth it.

The "murderer" and the short haired blonde chick were one and the same. Split personality type deal...she was severely fucked in the head I guess. She dissasociated the other "persona" from herself so much that he appeared even to her in some scenes (the shop...etc...the vehicles), SHE clearly had no idea it was happening. At the end to "let us in", they had her kill off the male character, to no REAL avail...as the personality was still there in the end, it just became evident to the viewer that it was her all along.

It's not without it's plotholes though, like I said before, there's the head in the van thing...and another one I thought of - which vehicle really existed?
I mean, perhaps the first scene with the other girl and her in the car didn't actually happen? So that may explain the van bit at the beggining, assuming she fabricated meeting the family and all, the whole thing could've just been recollection of past experiences with a person that rejected her, that she'd become obsessed with?
I think that's what I'll stick to as my theory.

Yeah, that doesn't quite cut it for me. I understood she was the killer and split personality. It's the plot holes it left open that left me scratching my head.

I HATED Sixth Sense, but that's a perfect example of a surprise ending that made perfect sense. High Tension went for that kind of ending and the plot holes made it fall very short. Very much the same way Rest Stop fell short because of it's plot problems. It's a shame because I truly enjoyed the fright factors in both those films, and then the endings just blew it.

I rate High Tension (Unrated Version) one of the better horror movies to come out in a long time. Sure it has some plot problems, like he locks them into the back of the truck with a pad lock yet she opens the back without touching the pad lock.
However, High Tension (Uncut) has some of the most suspence moments from a slasher film made. The way the movie is shot is excellent and the actors are very good. It also has some of the most realistic gory scenes in a long time.

I take High Tension for what it is, a super suspenseful movie that has some great moments.
I have watched this film a number of times, something I rarely do.
