I drink Strongbow, and Magners mainly (which are more sweet ciders as apposed to dry ciders). Have had scrumpy from cornwall, england (local produce, not manufactured crap) but its ridiculously foul. It's like 10-15% alcohol (20-30% in US) so almost 3 times the alcohol of a standard beer, and cider generally speaking is supposed to taste nicer than beer. It's brown, made from the most rotten of apples and its so acidic you will shit your guts out after 3 pints. :)

Well considering cider is made from apples I'm pretty sure that counts lol. (Generally though, unless its alcoholic then it isnt really cider. We have non-alcoholic sparkling apple drinks but they are talking about the alcoholic type :)) Although I have seen a cider made from different fruits before, but generally speaking ciders are always apples.
They are big in UK, especially old fashioned village type communities in the south west of england. We have loooooooads of different kinds, and there isnt ONE bar that wont at least have strongbow on tap, or pint bottles of Magners (which is an irish cider enjoyed on the rocks).

Cider is a cloudy, brown drink made from apples. Hard Cider, is an alchoholic beverage made from cider. it doesnt necessarily have to be alcoholic to be cider.
That being said, around here they have woodchuck hard cider, which is pretty damn good, but i usually choose beer over everything.

Had many types of cider, though I don't drink it now. Traditional scrumpy Jack used to be a fave binge cider when on camping holidays. We got some leathal stuff once in this 4 or 5 litre glass Demijohn, you could see chunks of apple floating around the murky drink. It smelt really acidic and had a taste of sour over stewd cooking apples. One of the guys threw up in his tent and went back to sleep he was so drunk. Morning time when he crawled out the ground sheet of the tent was wrecked and that wasn't slept in again lol.

..... When i was 19, a freind of mine came over to my house with his brother. we watched clerks. i started drinking when we put the tape in, and by the time it was done, i had polished off 9. The last of which was a rapberry ale (Blech...)
I layed down after they left, and after about 2 minutes thought "I need to go upstairs, im gonna puke"
I managed to sit upright just before blasting part 1 of 9 beers all over my bed and rug, then managed to get to a sink to let loose the rest.
Strill stinking drunk, i managed to clean the carpet, and get my sheets into the washer. I promptly passedout on my unfurnsihed bed.
I had to get up and go to work the next daym where i suffered for 2 hours before begging to go home. My mattress was ruined, the smell of vomit WOULD NOT come out. As luck would have it, i had a new bed arriving that day anyway. :D
I also discovered spicy food makes me feel better if i am sick or hung over.

These are the sort of reasons why I stopped drinking strong cider :D ...opening the door and pissing in a wardrobe was my lowest one, not my wardrobe thankfully.
I'm not much of a drinker these days, enjoy a couple of pints or some wine with dinner now.

I haven't tried a Snakebite with Guiness. I usually would use a larger beer. But I'll give Guiness a day in court.

Naw. Cider is alcoholic, its only in US you use the term "Hard Cider". Everywhere else, cider means alcoholic apple drink.
"Cider (or cyder) is an alcoholic beverage made primarily from the juices of specially grown varieties of apples. In most places in the world, the term refers to fermented apple juice, but the drink is known as hard cider in the United States, where the term "cider" almost exclusively refers to apple cider, a fresh, minimally processed variety of apple juice." - From Wiki.
It's only you americans making things complicated as usual ;) I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about as: "Cider is very popular in the United Kingdom, especially in South West England, in comparison to other countries. The UK has the highest per capita consumption as well as the largest cider producing companies in the world including H. P. Bulmer, the largest."
I'm from England :)

That sounds a bit like ice cream soda (name made over here in UK and now used for the drink you guys have "cream soda"), but over here in england thats when you put a dollop of ice cream in shandy (lemonade and beer), not cider.
I first had ice cream soda at the age of about 13. We were allowed to drink shandy by our parents because it was only lemonade and beer. Anyway over here you can drink beer at a pub when you're like 16, as long as you do it in the beer garden and are having a meal with it. Then the legal age to buy alcohol and consume it is 18 :D
I thought that was impressive, but in other european countries you only have to be like 14 to drink and 16 to buy it!

This thread is the Thirstmaker. It makes me want cider. There's a place down the street that sells 5 gazillion drinks of the world and they have some ciders there! They open when they damn well feel like it so you can't even buy anything from them until they're in the mood. Also, they won't sell you bottled alcohol unless you make a minimum food purchase--you have to buy a sandwich or some salad or something. They are a bunch of little bastards but they are the only place in the area that sells Tahitian beer which I must have from time to time so they can pretty much do what they like.

All this talk of cider is making me want to ..... get some cider. All I have is rum over here and that gets boring. It's so frickin' cold right now, the cats are freezing, I am freezing, my windows are freezing, and a man deserves a little taste of the appley hooch juice ever once in a while.
You people are lucky you have somany differeny types o cider in your indigenous localities. You go to the liquor store over here, and all there is is beer, beer, beer, beer, and different colored beer, and none of them are particularly good either. Even the imports are stale by the time they get into the rifrigeration units. And speaking of refigeratadors, it's really cold in here and I would like once of you nice people to go get me some cidernow. Thank you. Much. I may just have to have me some roasted hot flip in the meantime.
