Frosty Needs HELP!

hey guys, well im writing this collection of fairytales...and im adapting them for adults so they are lot more scary, gory, sexual and erotic then the originals and i was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites that had information on writing horror and/or fairytales...i just need some tutorials and suggestions to kick start things...i need to get one book finished so i can send it off to my publisher.

all fairytales are sick and twisted...i mean seriously Hanzel and Gretal, Little Red Riding Hood etc....but i want to make them so kids have nightmares about them lol

Um since this is a horror site,... are the fairy tales gonna be horror like? cause if they are heres a hint. sexual erotic type horror stories = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's man thats whats killed off the vampire genre. thats my opinion

well thanks for the opinion...but not all the stories are going to be sexualy active...some maybe but not all...and with stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and the such there will have to be some erotic exposure if you want it to be different from the original....
but im going more for gore and gothic scaryness then anything else

Have you ever read the original, uncut Grimm tales? Some of them get pretty dark and violent. Also, check out Strewelpeter for some ideas.

thanks heaps Flayed...i've got a kids version of the Grimm's Brothers but i have yet to get one of their uncut books, i'd love to though i love the Grimm's Brothers im trying to go dark like them.

For general writing advice, I've never seen anything tha can hold a candle to Stephen King's ON WRITING. The first half is an autobiography of his writing life and the second half is a style manual. Really fantastic, practical advice in that one.

not as yet but ive been told that i MUST read them...which i plan to do i've just got to get myself fueled up as i dont really like Anne Rice's writing style im not sure why i just get very bored quickly....well not bored i just find she goes too indepth to keep me interested in the tale...but thats just me...but i plan on reading it

Check out Snow, Blood, Apples by Neil Gaiman. Its a really, really cool short story that twists Snow White.

and thanks bloodrayne for giving me a link to the old thread, it was an awesome read, i just posted a rendition of Little Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast.

and now i want to get that book of Grimms Grimmest...i've got one book of their collection but its a kids one...one i can read to my kids when i have them. But i want to get an uncunt version of their fairytales, as i love them so much.

Iam fimiliar with the book that bloodrayne posted having read it during my Neil Gaiman Mortal Gods, Death, Sandman comicbook reading days. Anne Rice was kind of a june come lately to this lady's works. http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/acarter.htm

In college I had a very progressive film professor & I did a paper on the dream world as the gateway to horror. Films like Phantasm, The Shining, An American Werewolf In London, Susperia, The Fog, & alot of others have an elemental dreamlike quality to them where the audience can't seem to decide if its a dream or reality. Alot of the fairytales also have this quality. Some silent films have this in spades. The Silent Beauty & the Beast is a great example. Its sets & such were unreal.
