...I'd take this with a grrain of salt. Both Bruce and Sam have long denied that they were making this, and Bruce's site has nothing about it...plus the poster looks like it's fan made (Check out the Evil Dead logo...same as from the video game)
In all honesty, I dont even want an Evil Dead 4. As much as I love the trilogy, I think they should just leave it at that. Bring on My Name is Bruce, and move on!

C'mon, you know you'd all see a fourth one if ever it happens...
Personally, the poster looks "not quite right"...and nothing about it on Bruces site could mean either they're not making it, or for once, we'll have a nice surprise.
I wouldn't mind something that followed along a similar storyline to the "fistfull of boomstick" game (of course, slightly more complex), set after Ashes return to his time in the original cut of army of darkness...the world gets invaded, a modern day setting that's not just a cabin in the woods, I'd see that.
As for the remake, hell, I'd check it out just to know how it went...no hatred...I have to admit though, I prefer the "film without the Ash character" than the "replacement Ash" idea...maybe something more like a side story to the original, with elements that cross over or whatever...

I think it's kind of gay that their considering having Eddie Furlong as Ash in the remake of Evil Dead. Whatever, though. It isn't up to me.
I don't think Ash is gonna be in the evil dead remake.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi told The Herald Sun that he’s trying to recruit his brother Ivan to write the screenplay for a third sequel to his indy horror classic “The Evil Dead”.
“I'm trying to get my brother, Ivan, to write the screenplay with me. He wrote Army of Darkness, the third one, with me and we have been talking about another one, but we haven't started work on it”, says Raimi.
Interestingly enough, Raimi doesn’t mention – not one syllable – the previously announced “Evil Dead” remake. Lets hope they have done away with that idea, and will instead move forward with a sequel.

i personally would rather see a sequal, but if a remade was done aswell i would watch it too.

Evil Dead 4? That would really cool, but they have to have Bruce "Don't Call Me Ash" Campbell. :D
As for the remake, I don't think Raimi has anything to do with it and it was kind of "out of his hands".

Given the sequel and remake frenzy that's been taking over Hollywood in the last few months-- OK, years-- it's amazing this bit of news from Sam Raimi hasn't shown up anywhere before now.
At Comic Con today Raimi announced that Evil Dead 4 is "in the wheelhouse". He even went so far as to say that he and his brother Ivan would be getting together this weekend to work on it-- that is, assuming Raimi can get past the hordes of excited fans.
Originally, Raimi was planning to remake the original “Evil Dead”, but when horror fans sneezed at the suggestion it was quickly dropped.
Raimi has talked a lot about doing a Spider-Man 4 constantly since Spider-Man 3 made so much money, and I think everyone would have expected that it would be the next sequel on Raimi's plate. He's got a lot going on right now, directing Drag Me to Hell and scheduled to adapt a Dennis Lehane novel as well as revive the Jack Ryan series of movies. So Evil Dead 4 may be a long way off, but that's one heck of a carrot to dangle in front of fans who have gotten bored watching Raimi follow Spiderman all over the skies.
Hopefully we'll hear more details about this one even after the Comic Con madness had died down.
Keep checking back, and get ready for those zombies!

There was a 4th set up in the original ending of 'Army Of Darkness'. Ash oversleeps going back to his own time and was to fight the Deadites in future England (since it is mentioned that there is a warrior who fights them through the ages or such). Universal hated that ending and that's why he turned up back at S Mart. I wonder if the studio will now ignore that fact in 4 and rewrite history that he did oversleep
CK
I believe that oversleeping ending is added in the AOD DVD. It's quite interesting.
If Campbell doesn't return as Ash, I'm not so excited about it.

Ash IS the 'Evil Dead' franchise so I wouldn't dare start name guessing who could replace him. Luckily he and Raimi go way back so replacing him won't ever be an issue.
Yeah, the oversleeping footage is on the 'AOD' DVD as it was originally shot. According to 'The Unseen Force: The Films of Sam Raimi', Universal did a huge butchering job on the final cut of 'AOD'. A legal entanglement over 'Silence Of The Lambs' (which DeLaurentis owned the rights to due to 'Manhunter and was produced by Universal) made 'AOD' the pawn and bargaining chip between the 2 studios and it sounds like the film suffered horribly because of it. Missing scenes, reshoots, and poor editing choices leaves questions to what the film might've been without so much tampering involved. Needless to say, it is my least favorite of the franchise. I wonder if 'AOD' was the 2nd 'Evil Dead' as proposed at the time would be more like the original 'Evil Dead'. Guess we'll never know.

CHUD has an update on this "Evil Dead 4" plan of Sam Raimi's.... seems it's not so much a plan as it was just "something he probably shouldn't have bothered saying".
When Raimi took the stage in Hall H to promote Drag Me To Hell, he inevitably faced an audience question about further Evil Dead collaboration with Bruce Campbell. His response was (vaguely) surprising.
"That's in the wheelhouse. I'd like to work on it with my brother Ivan when he comes up next week."
You could almost smell minor waves of 'holy shit!' rolling across the hall. Predictably, that quote made the rounds as 'Evil Dead 4 coming!!!!!!!! OMG!'.
Raimi was asked about his true intention when he was cornered on the press line a while later.
"Well, he's coming to town and we're going to talk about that, if he's got time to work on the script. Don't really have a next project lined up right now, and we'll end up writing about two or three pages of it, as we always do, and then work on something else. I really need to see this picture, get a first cut in, I want him to tell me what didn't work, where we have to fix it, where we have to tighten it up…I really need his input."
Hmm...I know, I know.
All the fanboys are holding their breath in anticipation (myself included). I think it's a long way off yet it seems, unfortunately.

Sam Raimi Confirms Evil Dead 4
http://gawker.com/assets/images/gawker/2008/07/bruce-campbell-evil-dead.jpg
Bruce-Campbell-Evil-DeadAwesome news out of San Diego Comic-Con. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi announced that he's getting back together with actor Bruce Campbell for a fourth installment of their stellar Evil Dead franchise. Though the zombie-filled series has been dormant since 1992's Army of Darkness, Raimi—who was promoting his upcoming flick, Drag Me to Hell—told fans that part 4 is "in the wheelhouse."
"I love working with Bruce Campbell... He’s super willing to do anything to make it right. He’s a very funny guy, but mostly he’s got this quality where he will physically do anything to get the shot done right, so I would love to work with Bruce again because I’d love to test those limits. I’d love to make another Evil Dead picture. And actually that’s in the wheelhouse. I’d like to work on it with my brother Ivan [Raimi] when he comes up next week.“ [Geeks of Doom]

IGN conducted an exclusive one-to-one with Bruce Campbell to discuss his forthcoming comedy-horror My Name is Bruce. While there however, they took the opportunity to quiz him on all things Evil Dead, and rather than giving them a withering look and refusing to talk about the subject yet again, he instead spilled the beans.
All of them.
Bruce on the success of the Evil Dead movies...
"This year it's 30 years old - we shot it in November of 1979. I think it's still around because the movies hit a chord with anyone who is irreverent. Anybody who is a little outside the box. Because the movies are all a little twisted, in different ways. Evil Dead 1 is its own thing, Evil Dead 2 is weird, Army of Darkness is its own beast. But I think it's really for the college kids who were out of the house for the first time and wanted to go get drunk and watch a movie and play drinking games and do whatever they want to do.
"The character of Ash is not your typical hero. And if you think of it in terms of horror series', Ash is the only good guy. Jason's a bad guy, Freddy's a bad guy - who gives a shit about them? I don't - they're bad guys - fuck 'em. He's an idiot, but I think people can relate to him because he has no skills. He's not CIA, he's not FBI, he's not a Navy Seal - he's just a jerk. He could be your neighbour. He's the idiot next door who's playing the music too loud."
Bruce on Freddy vs Jason vs Ash....
"We actually had that five minute conversation with New Line cinema. And it went kind of like this:
'Hey, how about Ash vs. Jason vs. Freddy?'
We went 'Great idea - Ash can kill them both, right?'
And they went 'Well, actually you can't kill either one of them.'
And it was 'click'.
That's how long the phone call went for. Because why on earth would you dilute a franchise with two other franchises? It made no business sense, because you're splitting that pie way too many ways. If it's New Line cinema, Freddy's their baby - you know it's going to get special treatment. And why else would Ash be in it unless he could kill both of those jerks? "
Bruce on Evil Dead: The Musical...
"I laughed my ass off. My favourite number was "What the fuck was that?" It's a tough thing to take all three movies and then cook 'em down. There were certain rights issues about the Ash character, because the movies were all made by different companies. So it was a very complicated thing to make that all happen. But I thought the tone was great, and the stage works were really good. They have blood flying 20 feet. The first three rows are the splatter zone - the cheap seats. People would come dressed head-to-toe in white.
"When I was there a guy showed up in a white tuxedo, and when he left, it was pink. He walked out and his head was held so high - he was strutting out of that theatre. He was wearing it like a badge of honour, because he got slimed by The Evil Dead. I heard it was going to South Korea - I want to see that version. But it should come to London. Evil Dead was born here - you can trace it back to here."
Bruce on Evil Dead 4...
"Sam and I love those movies and we owe everything to them. They are what got us into this business. But Sam has five kids - he's a family man. And those movies are an absolute physical pain in the ass to make. So whenever we see each other, it's not like 'Man, we've got to make another one of those movies.' And I'm under a five-year contract for a TV show in the States which is doing well and it ain't going to get cancelled in the foreseeable future. So I have a day job that I can't just walk away from.
"I wouldn't make it if Sam didn't make it. I wouldn't do it if Sam didn't direct it - that would be ridiculous. But here's the real bottom line. We'd work for two years making that movie, working our asses off, then people would watch it and go 'It's OK, but not as good as Army of Darkness.' I know it, I just know it. Because look at Indiana Jones 4 - that movie was forced down people's throats. That was not brought back by popular demand. That was a couple of high-powered players going 'Let's try that again.' I took a poll because I was in 22 States with this movie [My Name is Bruce], and the Evil Dead 4 question always comes up. And I say 'One, two, three - raise your hands if you wanted Indiana Jones 4' and two hands would go up in a 300 seat theatre. That's your answer right there.
"But there wasn't supposed to be an Evil Dead II. Ash is dead at the end of the first one - completely dead. But our second movie Crimewave bombed, so we went 'Aw crap, we'd better make another Evil Dead movie.' So that's why it was created. And because we didn't have the rights to each subsequent movie - because they were made by different companies - we had to fake these re-caps and use different actors, and it just confused people. I don't think it was ever organically meant to be made into three movies anyway. So a fourth one would just be more confused and ridiculous. It's a little too muddled I think."
[b]Bruce on The Evil Dead remake...
"The remake? Whatever. I'd be most interested if they went back with a 16mm camera and used no actors you've ever heard of. Because that's what The Evil Dead was - five kids in a cabin in rural Tennessee in 1979. So if that approach is taken, it might be alright. They can use some modern-day digital technology instead of cheesy garden hoses pumping blood. But you're bound to disappoint, and that's why I think we hesitate the most. The way to ruin the other three movies is to make a really bad part four, one that just sucked."
My Name is Bruce is released in the UK on February 13, while Evil Dead 4 is unlikely to get made anytime soon.
As much as I hate to say it and would love to see a 4th Evil Dead....the guy makes sense.

Was listening to Radio2 (Uk station) whilst driving this afternoon, Bruce was being interviewed by Johnathon Ross... they talked about loads of stuff, different directors, being Elvis in Ho-Tep etc... etc and his latest Comedy.
There were hints of doing more lower budget filming, after Ross brought up the idea of furthering the ED series, but nothing substancial was said. Lets hope.

That comparison with Indiana Jones 4 is right.
I cant see an Evil Dead 4 being anything other than a let down, especially as the last one was over fifteen years ago and the series has had all this time to develop a cult status.

He said the exact same stuff at the "My Name is Bruce" screening I went to with him there. The only thing is NO ONE, and I mean absolutely no one wanted to ask him about Evil Dead 4. Not one hand went up or nothing and he asked us twice if we wanted to know about it. Then when he offered the second time he went into the whole Indiana Jones thing.
He's totally right about it though. That sucks, but it's true.

I for one am happy there is a lot of "impossibility" revolving around the idea of ED4.
Everyone knows I love all 3 movies fiercely, and the franchise is arguably my most favorite franchise out of all. It has to be a really killer script and premise to EVEN contemplate a sequel to AoD, and let's admit it, the comparisons with the first 3 flicks will always be there, no matter how awesome pt. IV turns out to be.
That, plus the huge expectations of genre fans, can be quite telling. I am sure Raimi & Bruce feel plenty of heat when this topic is rustled. Its for the best that the series stands closed with AoD. As good as Raimi & Bruce are, even they wont be able to do justice to the franchise with ED4, and they both know it.

uhhhggh :(
As far as ED4 goes, I'd love to see it, but as everyone else has said, it'll more than likely be a letdown. I've loved the first three as long as I can remember. Because of the Evil Dead series I watch everything I find With Bruce in it, good or bad.
Right now he's doing great in Burn Notice and Raimi is off doing his own work in horror and superhero flicks. It would be at least a few years before they would both have time to sit down and work out the preproduction shit.
I guess my main thoughts on ED4 is that the fan in me would love to see it as long as Sam and Bruce run the show, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

In a recent interview with Onion's AV Club, Bruce pretty much puts his foot down and explains why he has no desire to do a fourth film anymore.
From Onion AV Club:
AVC: In your opinion, is Ash worthy of more movies?
BC: No. I think there should be an end to everything. I mean, did anyone really want Indiana Jones 4? The answer is no.
I've taken a poll in about seven theaters now. Of 300 people, three hands go up.
You are bound to disappoint. I would rather disappoint with a brand new original movie. People worship Army Of Darkness, and God bless them for it. It's a beautiful thing. The movie bombed when it came out, and not many people are aware of that. Twenty years later, the thing has picked up speed, and it's on American Movie Classics now. That was a long time ago, and whatever we do next will always be compared to Army Of Darkness, and I don't see how we can win.
You make that movie, and I can tell you the quote right now, "Oh, it's not quite as good as Army Of Darkness." Then we would have gone through immense physical pain and anguish to bring something out that ultimately disappointed. That's really not what I'm into these days.
Bummer, but he's 100% right. Let it be.

I don't think it would be bad if they kept it on the lines of "New", but the Indy Jones 4 point is a good one, and it should be understood that anything made as a sequel will recieve crap because it is a sequel. What you need to do is make a movie, with the undead, which isn't called Evil Dead anywhere in the title, brings up ash "Somewhere" in the story, but focuses on a different story. Make it decent quality, but use something like porn industry graphic and stage effects, and bring in people off the street. I think something along the lines of zombies in small towns along the coast would be cool, and we have a stan lee-esqe entrance for bruce where he's in a house, reading a newspaper, when a zombie runs on by and gets ready to jump when he flips out the shotgun saying, "Not now, she-bitch, I'm reading." The line doesn't need to be a quote, but that's just for the sake of asserting an idea.

As much as I would love to see a 4th ED, I agree with Bruce Campbell, a 4th would ultimately disappoint fans and draw comparisons to AoD, no one would like what it was because it wouldn't satisfy every fan.
As for Indy 4, that was brought out for the cash, it wasn't that good and no one really wanted to see another one (especially without Sean Connery lol). I say they leave the ED series alone as far as sequels go, but they should release ultimate editions of all three films.

And like you said MisterSadistro, why did he waste time with 'My name is Bruce'? I saw it, laughed a couple times but overall it was stupid as shit. If he can take a risk like that how could an evil dead 4 be any worse?
idk. I just would really love to see an evil dead 4...especially so many years after the last one. I think they could make another awesome movie.

http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/evil-dead-series-continue-army-darkness-sequel-100300180.html
After the box office success of this year's 'Evil Dead' reboot, a sequel seemed inevitable: but it looks like it might not come in quite the form we expected.
According to director Fede Alvarez, the plan may be not for a direct sequel to this year's hit, but a follow-on from the third instalment, 1992's 'Army of Darkness,' which would see original director Sam Raimi return to the series.
Asked about what plans were for the future of the 'Evil Dead' series, Alvarez told Bloody Disgusting, "The pressure is on them now. Because as far as I know, and heard, Sam is really determined to get Army Of Darkness 2 happening... He is actually writing [it now]."
However, series producer and original trilogy star Bruce Campbell was less specific when quizzed on the matter. "We have to figure out what we want to do… because this wasn't a huge long term 18 movie plan, you know what I mean? These sequels - remakes, sequels, whatever you want to call them - come out of nowhere."
The possibility of multiple 'Evil Dead' movie universes running parallel has already been suggested. Back in March, Campbell told fans that the current plan was to make both an 'Army of Darkness 2' and a sequel to this year's 'Evil Dead,' and then for both narratives to meet in a seventh movie.
This could conceivably occur without messing up the logic (such as there is!) of any existing film in the series. The 'Evil Dead' reboot featured an entirely new crop of characters, and while it broadly replays the narrative of the original film, it could easily be considered an altogether separate story that occurs within the same universe.
In the first place, 1987's 'Evil Dead II' was more or less a remake of its predecessor anyway. Only 'Army of Darkness' can be definitively classed as a sequel, as it follows on directly from the climax of 'Evil Dead II,' with Bruce Campbell's hero Ash magically transported to the medieval era, where he continues his battle with the monstrous Deadites.
A direct follow-up to 'Army of Darkness' could conceivably take either of two specific directions, given that 'Army of Darkness' had two alternate endings used in different territories. (Spoilers ahead!)
The US version saw Ash successfully return to the present day, and return to his dual role as demon fighter, and housewares assistant at S-Mart. This ending was shot at the behest of studio Universal, who wanted a happy ending.
However, Raimi's preferred version - which was used in the UK and other territories - saw Ash accidentally drink too much sleeping potion, and awaken in a post-apocalyptic future. I daresay a story that continues in this version of events might make for a more compelling sequel, but that might also make it trickier for the narrative to crossover with that of the reboot. Mind you, they've done time travel once already…
Sorry if there's a thread on this already but I couldn't see one...
What are peoples thoughts on this anyway?
I for one would love to see the further adventures of Ash battling the deadites but not too enamoured with the thought of linking this to the reboot in another movie.
cheebacheeba
09-27-2013, 06:24 AM
They should follow both, that's about the only thing they haven't done yet.
I'd rather a crossover between the aftermath of each of those endings, that a crossover with the "new" ED universe.
Though I have to say I'm pretty doubtful that I'll end up liking whatever gets made all that much anyways.
