there are going to be a lot of bombs in the horror movie industry this year, outside of halloween and about 100 sequels there are alot of remakes that I think are going to blow up in the face of hollywood directors.

I feel the horror movie is going to go the way of westerns. there hasn't been a original movie or and original idea. in what seems like years. if it weren't for jap horror i think horror would have died years ago. And even as much as people like the asian horror it will only take the injdustry so far.

If you ask me, J-Horror got dull after about the third go-around.

J-horror isn't anymore original than american horror. They've played out the ghost stories just as bad as we have the slasher ones.

You're probably right, most horrors nowadays are more about action and loud music. You get too much of the same crap over and over, and soon enough everyone will get bored of it.
Sadly, i grew tired of modern horror long ago.:(

As Rod has said time and again, let your money do the talking. Go see the movies you think they should be making and DONT SEE THE ONES YOU DONT!
Rather than saying "AvP2 is gonna SUCK!"
then its released and your back here saying "Yep, i was right, it sucked." Well, you just gave them A. Your money, B at the very least, a free plug.
Plus, sad as it may be, shitty movies make money, and if they turn any kind of profit at all, they keep the movie business going. Take a look at other forms of entertainment. probably 90% of EVERYTHING is either not your thing, or garbage of some sort. Its that 10% that keeps you interested and looking. The reason it seems to be such a big deal with movies, is because we pay a lot more for them, and they are a lot more in your face.
Think about all of the garbage on TV, that you never get as fired up aboutm because you just dont watch it. Movie trailers are everywhere, so we become more aware of them, then on top of that, most of us are movie buffs, so we pay attention. Sure, Hollywood sucks, but so does everything else. Try to ignore the bad, or at least have fun with its awfulness.

Yeah I know what you are saying, that particular ghost folklore story is popular in Japan, but just like anything, it can be over-done.
However, theres a lot more J-Horror and asian horror, which has nothing to do with ghosts :)

It's much like the BBC with their constant repeats, while we sit back and pay our tv license for the same old rubbish.
But as Vodstok says.. We don't have to pay for the movies we don't like the look of.We can have a good ol' moan about them though.:p

Really? I loved James Whale's Frankenstein...much better than Thomas Edison's version.
Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee were awesome in their remake of Dracula.
The Thing? Invasion of the Body Snatchers?
remakes have been going on as long as film has been made - get over it already.

The first ever official remake of another film was The Great Train Robbery (1904), It was a remake of The Great Train Robbery (1903). There have been remakes for over one hundred years... I doubt your bithcing will stop them now.

my favorite point ever: Complaining on an internet forum will accomplish nothing more than filling up some space on a database. The film makers will never come here and read these, and even if they did, they would not take them to heart.
they may thank you for the free publicity, but i doubt you would even get that.
This is like protesting by telling at your tv. You'd be better off with a bumper sticker (And i happen to think people who voice opinions on bumper stickers need a hobby)

Me too, I think its pathetic how many are being made just for money and because they cant think of any new ideas. Some remakes are good, of course they are, but a whole lot more are shit and shouldnt be made/rip-offs that suck.
However I'm not crying about them, I dont think anyone is :p

So people can't have their own opinion on the way film making is going now?
Yeah, not all remakes are crap, but most that i've seen of late are plain and simply poor movies.
Be it through moaning or praise, let them say what they will.Telling people to stop voicing their own opinion is like telling "them" to stop making bad movies, it won't happen.
Do you listen to movie critics bitching about movies?... YES
Do you agree with all they say?... NO
Don't just tell them to be quiet, ask them why they think the movie sucks.

since this is your 6th post i'm assuming you havent been here long enough to see the other 500 threads where people are complaining about remakes.
sure everyone has the right to voice their opinion ...
and the people who have been around here a long time have the right to mention that the subject is getting pretty stale and futile.

i agree with the thing and body snacthers being good remakes. but can you really call movies about frankenstien or dracula remakes? Those stories were around long before movies were made. You can have different versions. but not remakes, unless You're talking about movies that don't stick to the original story line of the novels. then i suppose you could call them remakes if someone made a movie based losely or around the idea of those movies. then i guess you're right they were good re makes

It has nothing to do with opinions, just generalizations. Sure most remakes aren't that great. Are some of them? Yes. It would be different if you were bitching about a remake that you have seen. I'd rather see 15 threads on why the TCM remake sucked or, hell, even why The Fly remake sucked (which I loved). Why just make a thread complaining about remakes that haven't even been released yet? Remake or not, there are a lot of bad movies that come out every year simply because there are so many released. There's more crappy movies because there's simply more movies.
According to the US Box Office Info In
1970 - The Total Movies Released = 30
1980 - The Total Movies Released = 134
1990 - The Total Movies Released = 193
2000 - The Total Movies Released = 502
2006 - The Total Movies Released = 771

I haven't bitched about any movie in particular. All i've complained about is the way horror movies are made today.
Yes, i agree that the thread is a bit random, and that there's alot more movies made today. But it's because these so called bigger horror's over the years are remakes, or copy the hell out of another movie, because it saves them money and time.
We don't need to see movies that we've already seen with these remakes.
When did they make a fly remake? lol

here's the deal about 'remakes'
see the movie or not.
if not - then you have nothing to say.
if you see it - then critique it.
some are bad, some are good .... just like regular movies.
i wouldnt think there would be anything more to add than that extremely simple formula .. but i'm sure someone will think of something.
