Hmmm

The first film was pretty bad, but I love the Silver Surfer. I haven't been reading up on this one. Is Galactus going to be in it? If so, I'm in.

I enjoyed the first one despite its faults, and being a big Silver Surfer fan Im pretty psyched for this.

Rod - I havent heared anything for certain, but really - can you imagine a Silver Surfer intro movie without Galactus?

Given how they treated Doom in the first film, yes I can see them leaving Galactus completely out of this film.

Point taken...

Great, now you've got me worried:(

If Galactus is not involved, the whole surfer story arc would be stupid, and pointless...especially since he seems to be a little towards "bad" by what the trailer showed. That character in particular is a little hollow without his origins...I mean, I wasn't around during the time those events took place in the FF comics, but I've read enough reprints and downloads to be aware of the whole deal. It was one of the BIGGEST character turn-arounds in comicbook history, started out as an immensely powerful foe, but showed that he had a conscience trapped in there...turned out to be quite the noble character.
Galactus made that all...without him, the SS character would lose SO much...and yes, I will be severely dissapointed.

I liked the first FF film because of how well they managed the characters of the thing, and the torch, and their whole interaction dynamic...doom was "ok", mr and mrs fantastic were a little hollow...but still, I think it was a decent film, went in expecting the most over the top cartoony marvel film yet, and got it. The sequel should be alright too. No moleman hm?

According to these links both Galactus and Dr. Doom are in this film. I'm not surprised that Doom is back, the Marvel films seem to enjoy bringing back a villian or 2 from the first film.

**********Spoiler (Kinda, speculation based on events in comics)*********

With Doom being back, they might go for the story arch were Doom tried to steal the Surfer's powers. I get worried when these film makes get over agressive with the villians, it reduces the chances for sequals. But then again they may just do like they did in X3 and start making up characters.

That's what immediately came to mind as soon as I read that Doom returned in this one...there'll definately be SOMETHING there...either a plan to drain his power "I'll step in and contain him...etc", or he'll try to mislead the surfer, somehow get him on side.

Thats what I'm thinking too, b/c they never really played up Doom's manipulation skills that well in #1 so this would be a good oppertunity to further show that side of the character.

Considering James Cameron supposedly acknowledges Silver Surfer as a major infulence on T-1000, that makes perfect sence.

Buying comics is like buy DVD's, its an expenisve hobby. But its a hobby, and as most hobbys do they make us temporarly happy, and they also make us brooke. But in all honesty there is a little geek in everyone, it just happens to be in different things and different interst. For example, the jock who watches Football all the time and never misses a game and buys loads of team morbilia is as much a geek as the person who runs to the comic book show to buy every issue and every guest appearance of a particular character. There is no difference only in the interest itself.

New Trailer up!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/trailer-large.html

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the looks of it, I'm not seeing any indication that Galactus is in this movie. I see that Doom is in here, and they are really playing the Surfer as a bad guy. Granted at first he was techniclly "bad" but the trailer makes it look like the Surfer is the main villain. But maybe their doing what should have been done with Spider-Man 3 and keep the big villain (Galactus) a surprise hence Venom should not have been revealed to the public in the trailers.

Silver Surfer as the bad guy indicates there is a strong possibility of Galactus being in it, even if its in a small role. This should be good, at least better than the original.

I read an article that said that Galactus would be in this movie, I'm just saying that the trailer doesn't make it look that way. Even Mr. Fantastic says "Everywhere this thing goes a part of the planet dies." From the trailer it sounds like he's talking about the Surfer, but for people familiar with the comic he could be talking about Galactus and that Galactus is killing a part of the planet one place at a time instead of just eatting the whole planet at once.

really?

Here's a link. Not sure if it's one that's been given because they wouldn't work on my comp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da1v42cENUg

Just recieved word that it's going to be a two part thing and that galactus will have a bigger role in the next one.

Also, looks like doom's in it.

That makes a lot more sense to have a clifhanger ending with Galactus b/c Galactus could hold his own movie. Especailly if they keep Doom in the mix, b/c more than likely Doom will try to steel the Surfers powers and then go after Galactus.

I'm hearing a rumor that Galactus is going to be a giant cloud, specifically the cosmic cloud that gave the FF their powers. I'm really hoping this isn't true b/c that idea makes no sense.

Saw the midnight showing, and for the most part this was better than the first one, but it had some of the same flaws as the first one did.

***********************Spoilers ahead************************

There is a small love story started between tourch and Frankie, who as we all know later becomes Nova. The love story was similar to Ben and Alcia in #1, it was kind of there without anything to really build on it to justify why they were together at the end of the movie. However, if you watch the extended cut there are some scenes which make-up for this.
Then there is the Johnny needing to learn to be a team player storyline, that felt really pushed, like they didn't really explore it and make it flow with the film.
Lastly, Galactus, he is a big fucking cloud, the only hint of the original form is when his cloud passes over Saturn and you see the shadow of his helmet. Then Surfer destories Galactus with a big power bomb and thats it. They really underplayed Galactus which was a major let down.

I've seen it, and in my opinion it was great. I really liked how the fantastic four themselves grow in character. Silver surfer was wild lol. I'm not sure though, but I was told that the guy that played billy from hocus pocus was the silver surfer. honestly, i couldn't tell the difference between the cgi effects and make up if he was in it :)

Saw it today.
Felt a little more towards the comics I've read, the relationships in the film have developed further that way too.
The surfer was ok, but all in all a very compressed storyline...galactus, hm...whatever...SOME kind of viable entity wouldn't have hurt.
Overall not bad...although I don't think either of them have been all that great.
Once again, the portrayals of the thing and doom remain the strongest point IMO.

The Thing and Doom are couple of my faves. I never get tired of watching them. I also like the Resident Evil movies even though they're not as close to the games as they should be they're okay. looking forward the Extinction. Is there any word on a Doom 2?
