This shit sounds pretty fucking leet. Any movie that has Englund, Hodder and Tony Todd in it (even if its just cameos but I'm pretty sure Hodder is the bad guy) is off to the races already... trailers look ok as far as teasers go:

http://www.hatchetmovie.com/media/trailer-tribeca.wmv

http://www.hatchetmovie.com/media/orig-trailer.wmv

plus special effects is done by Carl Buechler who has worked on tons of shit (Reanimator, some of the F13s abd Halloweens as well as a ton of other stuff)

It rules. Adam Green is my friend and his slasher opus is a good fucking time!!!!!!

He told me that although it's getting trimmed for a theatrical release (to get an "R") it will get a very limited unrated release in select cities. I'll keep you posted. You'll want to see the unrated...the head rip MY GOD, THE HEAD RIP!!!!

Yeah right something uncensored in Canada. hahahahaha. Canada the most regulated country in the world. The thought police of canada wont permit anything uncensored. You can smoke drugs in canada. but you can't express a individual thought that the p.c army doesn't approve of. Canada where you can go to jail for dissagreeing with popular opinion.

Just got pushed back to August/September release. But the good news it that it's being pushed because it's been testing so well that Anchor Bay is going to go back and color correct the film (there was an incident at the DI house that did the color and Adam has been pissed about it) so it should look freakin' great.

Elvis_Christ
02-01-2007, 12:37 AM
What was wrong with the colour?

Roderick Usher
02-01-2007, 07:02 AM
What was wrong with the colour?

Color correction is done on all films to ensure an even tone from one reel of film to another. When editing, sometimes variables in lighing and filmstock can cause glaring differences from one shot to another, so a digital corection process evens everything out.

Apparently nothing looked the way Adam intended, but I still thought it looked cool. I can't wait to see it look even better.

He sure is! I usually stick around for the Q&As at the Festival (the directors are often there to present their movies and answer questions), and sometimes they don't have much to say. Adam, on the other hand, was a riot!! I could'nt help but agree on his point of view on how the censors taking down the 13 machette stabs kill to 3 stabs actually rendered the whole affair a lot more serious instead of just over the top...

Actually, he did have some very interesting things to say about how the MPAA (I believe its the name, as I'm not from the US I might be mistaken) members are paid by big movie studios and tend to let more things pass in movies from these big studios while being a lot harsher towards smaller ones and independant movie makers...

The official website for Adam Green's Hatchet was given a monster facelift and loads of new content. Go check it out and don't miss the highly anticipated film from Anchor Bay in limited theaters September 7!

When a motley crew of tourists on a Haunted Swamp Tour wind up stranded, their night of comedic spooks quickly roller-coasters into a horrific nightmare as they struggle to escape the swamp alive…and with all of their pieces.

A spectacular throwback to 80’s horror and the film that’s been bringing audiences to their feet at film festival’s worldwide, HATCHET is filled with laughs, scares, and over-the-top death sequences you’ll have to see to believe.

The official website :-

I can't recommend this movie any higher. Kane Hoddar, Robert Englund, Tony Todd:eek:

And you HAVE to see it in the theater for several reasons.

#1 - this film is an audience piece - made for fans, and when fans get together to see it, the theater really goes nuts...like a fucking rock concert!

#2 - I want my buddy Adam Green to make some money!

#3 - Adam came up with this story when he was a kid at summer camp. The councilors told all the kids not to go into a specific old cabin (where the councilors would drink, smoke & screw) or Hatchetface would get them. He asked "who's Hatchetface?" and when he didnt get an answer, he made up his own story and scared the other kids shitless...got into a bit of trouble too, so it's a work of passion that has been gestating for over a decade!!!!

#4 - This is being distributed by Anchor Bay, one of their early forays into theatrical releasing. As many of you DVD collectors know, Anchor Bay knows and loves horror in a way that most companies only hint at. If it does well theatrically, we'll see more low-budget, high quality original horror film in the theaters! And isn't that what we all really want?

So call your local theater chain and ask if they plan on carrying the film. If they say they don't know or if they say no - ask them why...be a pain in the ass...theater chains actually respond to this type of behavior, so get on it

JOIN THE HATCHET ARMY!!!!!!!

From director Adam Green's Blog on myspace:

On Tuesday September 4th, HATCHET will have it's premiere in Boston, Massachusetts at the AMC in Boston Commons. The event is being sponsored by Newbury Comics, a store that has always held a special place in my heart. In fact, I grew up loving that store so much that I actually dressed "Ben" (Joel David Moore) in one of their shirts in HATCHET.

With all of the money I dropped in Newbury Comics on CDs, movies, posters, and toys while I was growing up...it's almost like they're paying me back now by throwing HATCHET a Boston premiere!

So if you live anywhere near Boston, stop by a Newbury Comics location immediately and try and score some passes to the event while they last. Newbury Comics is "HATCHET CENTRAL" for New England and soon they will have all kinds of official merchandise on sale. Including a special, limited edition HATCHET / NEWBURY COMICS shirt...

Any of you in New England should try to get there for this event...it's gonna be killer!

By no means is this list final (doesn't even have Los Angeles yet!), but it's a damn good start for the theaters in major cities that will be showing Adam Green's superb slasher Hatchet, which hits theaters on September 7th.

Those who might be looking for a REAL slasher movie would do well to check inside and see if their favorite theater is listed. And if it's not, please do not despair, many more theaters will be added to the list as we get closer to release. But just to be safe, make sure you demand your local theater carries the film!

****Spoilers****

For once, the tagline does say it all. "Old School American Horror". That's exactly what Hatchet strives to be and fully succeeds. Take The Burning, Pumpkinhead and a bunch of films from the Friday the 13th franchise (many scenes are extremely close to many different F13 films), put 'em in a mixer and pour yourself a big ass glass of Hatchet. Now, while it in no way adds anything new to the camp-slasher genre, it certainly breathes some life back into it, and it definitely in its short life already warrants fair debate over whether or not it's one of the best of the lot; I think it is.

Adam Green is at the helm as writer and director, and not only is Hatchet a gore fest of epic proportions, it's also got a smart story, likeable characters, and uses elements from some faves from the late 70's and 80's. You got the old local drunk (only in Hatchet, he drinks his own piss) that tries to warn the youngsters, you got more tits than you can shake a stick at (at least 15 breast flashes in the opening Mardi Gras credits!), a bad ass soundtrack that pays mad honor to the slashers of yesteryear(minus fucking Marilyn Manson), a horror maven in charge of make up effects and a hell of a lot more. However, this isn't the typical "You do drugs or screw or both and you die" slasher, it's more or less the "You are on my turf, you fucking die!" slasher.

Don't get to excited about genre cameos, though; they are few and far between. Robert Englund is almost a blink and miss character (he does have some relevance), Tony Todd is kind of embarrassing, John Carl Buechler is the local piss drinking drunkard, but Kane Hodder is the one that sticks out. Here he plays the roles of Mr. Crowley and bad ass deformed with incredible retard strength, Victor Crowley. Many fans and horror sites are already calling Victor the next horror icon, predicted to be the next Voorhees, Krueger or Myers. I don't really see it. I am all for a sequel to this gem, but it takes a lot to make the status of the unholy three. Make no mistake, though, Hodder gives this disgusting character so much life that it's easily plausible for Victor Crowley to be blessing the horror genre with at least one more insane appearance. It's Kane's best work since Friday the 13th 7: The New Blood.

Many viewers aren't going into this looking for Oscar worthy effectiveness, but acting is above the standard, for the most part. The performances come off as cheesy on purpose, and the comedy is filled to the brim with wit, making any scene lacking carnage just as enjoyable. You get to know most of the members on the haunted boat ride fairly well. Some of them you'll love, while others will have you counting the seconds until they are discarded. Ben (Joel Moore) and Marcus (Deon Richard) are kind of like buddy flick characters, and they work together amazingly. While Ben is the more awkward, geeky type still hung up on an ex girlfriend, Marcus is the exact opposite; he's on the pursuit of partying, naked, if welcomed. This makes for some hilarious moments with the two trying to put one another down throughout the film. Marybeth (Tamara Feldman) is also a great character, she's along for the ride only to search for her missing brother and father (Englund), and she also gives the Victor Crowley back story to the hapless tourists of the trip. You also get a softcore filmmaker (for his own personal enjoyment) who wants his two leading ladies (whom hate each other to the bone) to bless his camera with tit shots any time the environment changes. There's a few more interesting characters to be had, as well. All in all, the personalities in Hatchet are truly more fun than a bag of dicks.

It's great to see John Carl Buechler spreading his bloody disease all across the screen. This is the guy responsible for the thumb through the forehead death in Halloween 4, he's also responsible for make-up duties on Elm Street 4, F13 7, Android, Necronomicon and loads more. In Hatchet, It's gleefully obvious that Buechler and Magical Media Industries Inc. had tons of fun with the bloodletting. There's no mercy shown here, what so ever. One victim alone gets head butted into a tree, has an arm ripped off, slung upside down into a tree and has his spine ripped out by the bare hands of one, Victor Crowley, and this is just a fucking opening scene. If that doesn't glue you in for the rest of the film, something is wrong. There's also plenty more dismemberment, a nasty segment of a head being ripped open by the mouth, head being busted across a tombstone and a shitload more! Plus, Victor Crowley himself is quite the looker, making ole' Voorhees appear to be a GQ model. His face is that of peanut butter art, strands of hair here and there, a triangulating spine that petrudes outward, and some bitching ass overalls to boot. This is one crazy looking SOB. Not to be missed.

A favorite scene of mine is the back story segment of Victor Crowley. The moment in reference takes place on Halloween, and the seasonal atmosphere is captured with precise class. I'll leave it at that, to keep its freshness intact for readers who haven't witnessed the magic of Hatchet yet, but you'll feel the same way if Halloween is your favorite holiday, like so many of us.

If you are a slasher fan, support this blood fest if it is playing ANYWHERE near you. Buy the DVD upon release. The genre needs more films of this ilk. Many will love, few will have disappointment. Thank you Adam Green and Anchor Bay!

Old School American Horror indeed. A great tribute to classic slasher films!
Smart, funny and gory as hell. I loved the parody the film had to offer. Adam Green did a fine job. Can't wait to see what he does next.
