Halloween writer/director Rob Zombie has announced on his official Blog that he has cast Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Loomis in his new take on the classic horror movie.

Donald Pleasence played Dr. Loomis in John Carpenter's 1978 original and its sequels.

McDowell will join the previously-cast Daeg Faerch, who plays a young Michael Myers, Sheri Moon and Heather Bowen.

Dimension Films has scheduled an August 31 release for the film.

Wow. That came out of left field. Alot of people were expecting Jeff Bridges(Zombie had mentioned him previously). Interesting choice. Been looking forward to this film since it was announced, and I truly think Zombie is gonna do something special with it.

Rumours are running rampant that Danielle Harris is being cast as Laurie. That will send shockwaves throughout the horror online community. Getting any character from a prior Halloween is gonna piss alot of people off, and getting Danielle may cause riots. I'm not really against her being in the film, although having someone so high profile from other Halloween films may not be a good idea. She's a pretty damn good actress no doubt, but I dont really see what casting her will achieve other than some controversy(and attention). Zombie choosing her may be a way to keep interest high until the film is released.

There has to be plenty of other actresses capable of the role besides Danielle Harris.

The Danielle Harris thing is a stunt but it will, no doubt lead to more press and some sense of continuity.

I have to admit Ms. Harris is, to put it in my father's parlance, "easy on the eyes":D

Especially when considering Zombie's remarks that the film isn't a remake, but a "reimagining". Bringing back the girl who played Jamie Lloyd(Laurie's daughter) to play Laurie is an odd choice.

Like you, I think its mainly just for publicity. Also, this choice will age the Laurie character. She was in high school. Now she has to be either in college, or even later in life.

I don't know why they bother doing re-makes on ovies like Halloween. The original was near on perfect. I think they should only do remakes on old movies that had a great story or a lot promise but was made by untalented arseholes. I guess they know people will go see it out of cuorosity

Quote from Rob Zombie about the look of the Micheal Myers mask:

"I've just seen Wayne Toth's finished mask for Michael and all I can say is "HOLY FUCK". It looks perfect. exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has the shape looked so good. Wayne worked this sucker to death and boy did it pay off."

Well, that's a relief.

I guess they found a box of old William Shatner masks laying somewhere then :D

Good news indeed!

yeah it sounds like zombie dosent know that we all know it was a shatner mask....oh well let him try to make us think theyve spent ages trying to replicate the original mask.....

also if its a reimaging then why does he want the mask to be identical?

Probably because he knows there are some things he just could not "re-imagine" without causing a riot...

Congrats for McDowell. Finally he's in a role with some respect to it. As for Danielle Harris being Laurie Strode, I think that would be a great choice. You gotta remember, Danielle was a wee little girl in the past Halloween films. Now she's a grown woman, so it will be easy to differentiate her now from her past character. I doubt there would be much controversy.

why does moon need to be in this ? yuk!
Because she'd be a perfect "Linda". She can so play that character that says "totally" every other sentence. It's not like she has an important role. She's meat for the grinder.
