I didn't really get into Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. I'm half way thru Supervixens and its some pretty funny shit so far.

hehe I figured thats who meant because there is a Russ Myer, whoever he is :)
I like Beyond the Valley of the Dolls for its campiness. It sure is different then his regular exploitation flicks.
I have to watch Supervixens very soon cause I haven't seen it in a long time.

Beyond was written by Roger Ebert, which he uses to say he has more vcred than any other critic because he actually wrote a movie. A russ meyer movie....

that's like saying you know how to run a pharmacy because you used to sell pot.

Anyway, any one with that kind of overwhelming passion for big hooters is a kindred spirit :)

Yep it's weird that Ebert & Meyer both wrote the story. Thats gotta be the strangest combination of writers. Ebert wrote the screenplay.
Hooray for big hooters :)

i'm a fan .. i love the campy acting and the childish view of sexuality .. somehow naive and dirty at the same time.

I have never seen more than clips of any 1 movie, but i seriously can't knock the guy. They were the kindof thing i would have made when i was going through puberty if i had been given the chance.

On Opie and Anthony they played "Mondo Topless" as a series of audio clips over baout a week's worth of shows. It was hilarious just listening to the narrator, then the vacuous airheads talking about the "Art of the Topless", like standing around topless and wiggling was somehow a delicate artform like ballet or impressionism.

Beyond was the first leg of a 3 pic deal he had with Fox, after the success of Vixen, which remained the highest grossing indie-adult flick till Deep Throat came along. His next flick, quite possibly his worst, The Seven Minutes tanked miserably. Meyer and Fox parted ways before a 3rd film was made, and Meyer returned to what he was good at- working for himself. His next flik, Black Snake, is a very under-rated film, where Meyer waded into the Blaxplo pool. Then he finished up with his masterpiece epic trilogy - Supervixens, Up!(based on Shakespeare no less) and Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens. If he'd stayed in the studio system, he probably wouldn't be remembered as well today.

BTW, Ebert may have the writing distinction, but Rex Reed starred in a film- the schlock extraordinaire Myra Breckinridge.
