Endless havoc in Iraq. Then there was that congressman that was caught lusting after teenage boys. There was that other congressman caught with a freezer full of dirty money. The Russians are killing their political critics again. North Korea set off a nuclear weapon. Israel and Hezbollah were blasting each other. Southern Afghanistan is getting ugly with the Taliban coming back. And to top it all off, that lunatic in Iran who think the holocaust didn't happen is trying to get his hands on a nuclear bomb.

The whole world is going to shit. I'm afraid to face 2007.

i still think there's potential for a holy war right around the corner too.
level heads have prevailed thus far - but one more incident - and i fear the worst.

A Holy war....

The only ones who will survive are those with no religion that do not get involved.

Are you kidding? We'll be the first ones both sides come after! Both the Koran and the Bible instruct believers to kill non-believers. We don't stand a chance.

Not really. The people who do not flaunt their religion won't be targeted first for the sheer fact that we aren't cramming another "God" down someones throat. We will fade into the crowd.

They more than likely will be more interested in destroying the members of another religion faster.

Not to mention the environmental turmoil/planetary shifts turning our weather against us...Yeah, agreed, it's not been a great year..and yeah, I don't think we've seen the worst yet, sometimes I just turn on the news, and there's been so much fucked up shit that I feel like I've almost become desensitised enough to just say "...huh...", which is a pretty unnerving realisation. I'm no longer surprised by ANYTHING.
Viewing things on a year to year basis really does bring it home how bad things are overall though, when it's gradual, you notice it, but not as much. When you add it all together, you just think "now THAT is some fucked up shit".
Our world, yup.

i've got one - with both the english and arabic texts. i've read some of it.

just like the bible it is a book that can be interpreted, bent and twisted to serve the needs of anyones purposes.

i almost immediately found a passage that could be taken to justify killing.
there are similar passages in the bible.

I studied Islam and Christian "sociology/psychology" at uni as part of my degree, but I'm afraid of boring you to tears. As far as their onslaught, I'm not sure if we Pagans will be first against the wall or if we'll "inherit the earth" (leaving plenty of room for others who survive, because due to our own past mistakes we're pantheists: there's room enough for everyone.

Besides, it seems that religion is cyclical. We seeing the adoption of religions that were thought to have died out 2000 years ago. The number of Christians is actually dropping. The rise of secular notions, due to the Enlightenment on up to this bullshit has been one of the major factors.

Also a lot more is behind the scenes of these wars than religion. I think that religion, in many ways, is a red herring.

I'm with cheebs (I think we're setting a record here;) :D ). I'm worried about the environment. Certainly, after human beings have obliterated themselves, Earth will begin to revive. (Shit, look at global change from 4-6 billion years ago). However, I am quite attached to the animals and plants that we have now. I consider them family.

We are becoming more and more globally aware and yet more and more thoughtless. Take Darfur for instance, we know what's happening, and relatively very few people are doing anything about it.

It's only going to get worse. I'm looking forward to the oil crash.

that could be a blessing in disguise. The intermediate years will suck, but if we as a species can pull ourselves out of the resulting gutter, there is a cleaner, smarter world on the other side.

That's exactly why I'm looking forward to it. Although it will cause chaos and almost certain mass death, it may be the only thing that ends up saving our species on the whole.

"Git" a popular word in the middle east? :)

This year has been a huge kick in the balls. Managed to make it through unemployment, while having a brand new baby (she was 3 months old when i got canned), during said unemployment, we had to evacuate our house because it might get washed away in a flood, and during that time, my family showed their true colors and i have more or less disowned them.

I got the best job of my life at the end of it all, but it forces me to drive 90 minutes one way (on an average day, never mind bad weather) and when certain family memebers found out how much money i was making, suddenly their hands came out. Yay.
