Thought I would take a moment to introduce Black Sun Productions (BSP) to the community. We are an independent film company specializing in short and feature-length horror (that would explain why we're here wouldn't it). Okay, that's enough with the spamming, here is a little information about us. We are a fleshling company, founded and owned by Raymond Repass (a life-long horror fan). We believe in creating films for the loyal horror fan, not for the mass public (even if we do eventually score a theatrical release for one or more of our films). We understand that blood, guts, gore, and huge breasts are beutiful things. However, we are adamant that our films should focus first on the story and then on the perks. We hope to hear from you all and remember to keep an eye on us... you never know how far we will go.

What I should have said is, "That's enough with the sales pitch. Allow me to give you a brief summary of the company." You see, I am not here just to pitch BSP to the forum members, I am here because I love the horror genre just as much as you do.

ok what movies do you have and if i buy one and it sucks are you going to buy it back now that were bud and all ?

You can't please everyone all the time and in the horror genre, one man's treasure is another man's trash. Take The Blair Witch Project for example. Some people loved it, calling it the future of horror, while others despise it to this day. Did Artisan buy back the copies sold to people that didn't like the film? No. If you don't like a film we produce, all we can do is listen to your feedback (and those with the same tastes as you) and make a film you will enjoy.

To the two that have requested viewer copies, we are only just beginning. Our first short film, Ars Infernum: Experiment No. 13 is under pre-production. We expect shooting to begin no later than February of 2007. This film we are giving to the public though (i.e. we will not be selling it). Upon its completion, AI:EN13 will be posted on YouTube for the whole world to watch for free.

Give the guy a little bit of a chance. Although it is a little spammy, he hasn't just posted a link to his movie. He's introducing his company and what they're about.

BlackSunProductions, I'll give you a few tips for surviving the forum. Since you took the time to introduce yourself, allow me to be an ambassador for us. We have a tight knit little community of horror lovers who suffer through a lot of spam. A lot of people (including myself) get a little defensive if we see people barging in on our territory to "pimp" their stuff without taking the time to get to know us. I understand that a lot of people don't have the time to post 20 times a day. Usually though, if you take the effort to look around and get to know us a bit, you'll get a warm reception:)

That being said, I suggest you ask a mod to kindly move your thread to the Independent Horror forum. For things like this, you usually get a lot better of a response.

With all that out of the way, I wish you the best of luck on your movies. When you're finished with AI:EN13, please post a link to it down in the indy horror movie section. There are several of us here who will watch it and give an honest review.

Hope you decide to stay and become a part of the community,
-Flayed

What he said. Your approach so far has been really good, especially comapred to what we are used to (I myself originally came here to pimp my stuff and started off like you, take a peek how long i have been here)

Dont let the bullshit get to you, if someone gives you shit, ignore them.

Advise taken. Upon posting this I will kindly ask that the thread be moved to the indie board. That said, I sympathetically address this:

well if you are making the same crap as every one has made 1000 times before you then you know its going to suck . what movies are you doing that would make it worth my time and money to buy or rent ? i hope your not doing shit to make a fast buck . im sick of crap horror movies that get my hopes up then let me down...there are lots of good ideas out there for movies and i hope you use them to make something good and not tired. it would be a shame to have a compy and not use it to do something good with it . so please dont let us down . im not trying to be mean but i have hard this before and its the some old thing ...shit for not get me .

omcdave, I know exactly where you are coming from and that is why I have started this company. Furthermore, that is exactly why the first few short films that we are doing will go directly to YouTube. We don't want you to spend money on something you're not going to like. Posting a few films on YouTube will give you and idea of what ideas we are boiling and you don't have to worry about losing $20 in the process. We can't promise that you will love everything we do, but we promise to keep it as original as possible and absolutely no remakes (I am so tired of Hollywood screwing up the classics I love). Therefore, no hard feelings.

In all fairness, that sounds like a good approach. We can try before we buy!

Cut me a slice of that low-res ham sandwich, will ya?

Props to you.

Youtube is an OK idea but IMO better for very short clips (10 mins or less). The AV quality is not great and probably not the best way to show off your work. By all means, post there, but a higher quality download would also be a very good idea. If you don't want to have to wear the high bandwidth that would likely entail, distribute it P2P and/or on Usenet. That way, people could actually see all the good work you are no doubt doing :)

That is an excellent idea and I will. However, YouTube is a Mecca for thousands of people. Thus, I will probably post it in multiple arenas.

so what kind of horror are you doing?

Simple answer, we do horror. I do not want to limit myself to any one subgenre. Largely because I like basically everything and also because not everyone likes the same thing.

i like asian horror and ghosts best but a new idea is needed here ...whats your 5 year plan?

Not to worry, we have a few ghost stories up our sleeves. As for new ideas, I liked the direction they went with The Blair Witch Project. However, I think it could have been 10 times more frightening than it was. Don't worry, I promise no Blair Witch remakes. Basically though, I want to change the rules. I want to make a slasher film that will provoke deep philosophical thought... I want to make a zombie flick that will make you break into tears... I want to make a good vs. evil movie in which evil is the good guy... I want to make you think that ghosts actually exists (if you don't already like I do). My five year plan is thus: make a wide variety of short films to release to the public free of charge and enter into local festivals, plan and write our first feature film, begin pre-production on feature film and create a prospectus for possible investors, seek investment, produce our feature film, make the devil give our souls back, enter the film in local and national festivals, and seek direct to video distribution. Add to that a DVD collection of our short films and we have ourselves a busy schedule. Can we pull it off? It's either that or we die trying because I am sick and tired of working a 9 to 5 and not living my dream. Sorry, determination slipping through there...but, one has to stay motivated.:D

HAHA, Nice plan! Now thats getting it done!

If you need help with the festival and convention route, let me know. PM me if you want. I will be working with a few people in charge of some film festivals that will be looking for entries and films to show.
