The Guinea Pig movies are very very gruesome. All of the plots differ so I don't understand how its a series. Charlie Sheen saw one of these films and alerted the FBI because he thought it was snuff film. If you ever get a chance to see one of these movies keep a barf bag handy.

I really want to check these films out. Haven't come across them over here. I'm gonna have to do a import and hope that customs won't confiscate them

The only one I really liked very much was He Never Dies, because it had more of a sense of humor (and plot) than the others.

The following is a quote from a review of this box set I found at http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/E-H/guinea_pig_box_set.html
The nameless victim is punched repeatedly viciously and kicked around, and then it starts to get nasty. Salt is rubbed into her abrasions, maggots are poured into her eyes and onto her open wounds, and her skin is pulled at and twisted with pliers, her fingers nails are ripped out of her fingers. She’s spun around so fast and so viciously that I almost got motion sickness watching it. It all culminates in a horrific climax where her near lifeless, sleeping body is pelted with raw meat until she’s covered in the guts of dead animals. When she wakes up, they stick a needle under the skin and through her eyeball.
My question is how anyone could read this and think, "Man I gotta get this." I just don't get this subgenre at all. Are there really that many sadists out there?

Who wouldn't want to watch after that:D
It's all about the feeling. Lots of hardcore horror fans go through their stages. Once you reach a certain point, you just don't get scared anymore. Many people go out of their way to get some part of that feeling back. If we can't be scared, maybe we can be sickened and disturbed. Being shocked becomes the ultimate goal instead of being terrified. To some people it's just a phase, I went through it big time about 10 years ago. I still enjoy a good exploitation flick.
It's also an adventure about setting your own personal boundaries. Man is a natural explorer, and one of the greatest quests of all is discovering who we are. How far can I go; where's my breaking point? Can I take torture? Child murder, rape, dismemberment? The quest to find something to push you so far you have to turn away or even turn off the tape.
Or, it could just be some people like tits and blood. Who's to say?

I'm not sure that you are seperating artwork from desire here.
If you cannot accept the depiction of torture and murder as art, and must have morals and retribution in all of your entertainment, it is understandable that the Guinea Pig films might not be for you.
However to call me a sadist for seeking out The Flower, The Flesh & The Blood is not correct - I get no pleasure from inflicting pain on others (except omcdave).
As a suggestion, perhaps you could watch the short featurette which is the Making of Guinea Pig - I'm sure when you observe the film set between takes the undeniably strong effect of the finished product won't seem quite so disturbing.

The Japanese GUINEA PIG horror series first rose to infamy when actor Charlie Sheen saw FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD and reported it to the authorities as a snuff film. Both that film and the previous in the series, DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT, were conceived as simulations of precisely what Sheen mistook FLOWER for: snuff films. Even as the series grew more ambitious, it still stuck to its formula of grotesque, over-the-top gore effects. In ANDROID OF NOTRE DAME, a dwarven scientist experiments on people in order to restore his dying sister to full health. MERMAID IN A MANHOLE, directed by notorious hentai manga artist Hideshi Hino (who also had a hand in the first two films and conceiving the series as a whole), concerns a depressed artist who finds a wounded mermaid and brings her home, only to have the magical creature rapidly succumb to a rotting disease. HE NEVER DIES and DEVIL DOCTOR WOMAN round out the series with a bizarre combination of gore effects and blacker-than-black humor. Horror fans with a taste for the extreme have been seeking out the GUINEA PIG films for years.
I can get this box set for $60...Is that a decent deal?...Is it worth it?...Or should I wait until I can find it cheaper?

I only watched the first one this week. Now, it takes a lot for me to switch off, but I did with about 15 minutes to go on this one, and that's in the full knowledge that it's fake. Saying that, I watched the last 15 minutes last night and it wasn't all that bad, to be honest. Gruesome effects. It's a real tester. I have 'Flower of flesh and blood' yet to watch - but I think I'll leave it a while first.
I've been working through some extreme cinema of late, but it's not the type of thing where I can get through say, a couple of movies a night. I've really got to be in the mood for some nastiness, and it's invariably followed by a good dose of comedy. Worst so far - Terrorists, killers and Middle East wackos, which I watched for the first 15 minutes or so. I'll not be going back to that one - it's real footage of people being maimed and killed. Not nice at all. Once I know it's real and not fiction - that's it. As far as I'm concerened that shouldn't be put on film at all.

They actually had to produce a "making of "doc to convince people Guinea Pig wasn't snuff such was the hysteria surrounding it.Its not really to my taste but i watched it all the same to see what all the fuss was about,i did find it quite disturbing so i guess i can understand why it freaked so many people out.

mermaid in a man hole is the best one :)
i'd have to %100 totally and completly disagree with you. this movie was awful. some chick squirting multicolored pus for an hour is the only, i repeat the only thing that happens in this movie. its straight up boring and stupid.

The Guinea Pig series is proabbaly the most overrated series. theres only two good ones. Flowers of Flesh and Blood & He Never Dies.
Would the GP series be as popular or infamous if chuck sheen didnt see it?
