SOMEBODY BAN THIS BASTARD
Most of the members here are too young to remember the "Disco Invasion" of the 70s.
Picture if you will...
Its the mid 70s...i'm in my late teens, hanging out on the corner with my friends.....drinking a few beers [ the legal drinking age then was 18 ]...life was good. The music especially...Skynyrd,Floyd,Stones,The Doors.....you get the picture.Even The Bee Gees had a few good [soft-rock] tunes on the radio.."How Could You Mend A Broken Heart"....not rock...but not bad.John Travolta was on the TV playing a dimwitted student in "Welcome Back Kotter". Vietnam had ended......all was peaceful
Then it happened....almost overnight........and this was the catalyst
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000001FDV.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_.gif
The country was torn.......the rockers against the dancing fools.Radio was not what it used to be.......Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor,Kool and the Gang.....the fucking turncoats.....The Bee Gee's....I won't even mention The Village People [I guess I just did].....who were these people...the music sucks...DISCO SUCKS...I wore that logo on my t-shirt proudly. It lasted for quite a few years but we did win the war, thanks to Nirvana and Pearl Jam for "grunge".
Sure we had the "hair bands" of the 80s...but I don't count that....never a big fan.

My roommate at uni (two years running. She was a great chick) loved John Travolta (until she did a thesis on Scientology for one of our RS classes), and fuckin' made me watch Saturday Night Fever. Some people consider that movie a classic and would consider what I'm about to say blasphemous: It fucking sucked! Most boring movie I've ever scene. People say that Ishtar was the worst movie ever made, but I don't know...

I've actually heard quite a few people say they don't like Saturday Night Fever. I, on the other hand, love it! And I love the Bee Gees! Yea, I'm weird, but there's not much better than cranking up the 70's music channel and dancing around with a one year old to the Bee Gees. I'm a mom, I have no life.
It's funny too, I wasn't even born until 81 and like that stuff, but David was born in 76 and doesn't care for a lot of it.

all right, it wasn't Saturday Night Fever that did it, it was Cocaine, Studio 64, the explosion of the gay club scene and the after effects of the sexual revolution...
Saturday Night Fever just showed that it was in the mainstream.
but I won a disco dance contests at my elementary school:o

.
i love that movie ..
the dance scenes make whatever i'm drinking shoot out my nose.
back in the day when there was a gang of us doing the bar hopping thing - we'd always end up back at my place after they closed and we'd watch either the Evil Dead or Saturday Night Fever.
they both had a pretty high entertainment level..

The thing is, kid though I was, I could see that the 70's was a breezy and enjoyable decade, not for everyone but for quite a few people. I could feel that emotion, and I associate disco music with that sort of joy. I like disco music a LOT...I don't listen to it constantly but I do enjoy it. Come on, man. Back then there was a disco version of every movie theme. It was cool to hear that stuff.

The disco "Night on Bald Mountain" was pretty bad, but when they did Beethoven's 5th Symphony with a dance beat:eek:

Bless the edit button. Thought the better of my post. It was very depressing and thus a buzz kill... My apologies.
