OK - since Meat has the distinction of being in Rocky Horror and given the dark-ish overtones of Bat out of Hell - it seems worth a thread.

IMHO, BOH3 is damn good. I'll admit that at first listen I thought it was a bit of an odd mix of the classic 70s pseudo-musical features that made the first two BOH albums classics - lots of background vocals and dramatic flourishes - and some really hard crunching new metal riffs (Marilyn Manson's guitarist is featured as is Nikki Six) -

On third listen, however, I forced myself to listen to it three times and by the third even the cheezier lines (for instance, "I'm the ticker on the bomb that you can't hold back") were ringing in my ears and I was humming along. The really strong tracks are the first three - The Monster's Loose is fairly hard rocking, though upon first listen it was my least favorite - Blind as a Bat should have been the first single in my opinion - classic Meat Loaf. The first single, It's All Coming Back to Me Now - pairs Meat with a new female singer Marion Raven on a remake of a song previously done by Celine Dion but written by long time BOH collaborator Jim Steinman - anyway, this is a great song with the kind of big vocal arrangement that fits perfectly with the Loaf.

I think some of the harder songs (In the Land of the Pigs, and If It Ain't Broke) don't play quite as well as the more melodic 'show-tunes' like What about Love and The Future Ain't What it Used to Be.

But, anyway, if you liked BOH and BOH II then BOH III is a mandatory purchase. Or, if you just occassionally like big power-ballads with amazing vocals, then get ready to bust back into Hell because The Monster is Loose!

I was never a huge fan of "power ballads". BOH had a few good tunes IMHO, but I think he's really trying to stretch it here....granted I haven't heard the new one......but c'mon.....the fucking bat got out already.....let it go!
