Was just having a chinwag to my old bud, Ed Neumeier, who says Sony are about push the greenlight on his “Starship Troopers 3”.
“Looks like - fingers crossed - Sony is moving forward”, Neumeier, who will write & direct the film, tells Moviehole. “Plans are afoot to shoot next year. Casper Van Dien will be back as Colonel John Rico. There'll be a new bug or two. Also draft riots. Religion makes a comeback. And the Federation has a new weapon.”
Exciting stuff. More on this beast as it gets its teeth.
The first was great, the second was disapointing. It's probably going to be a straight to video release. Edward Neumeier is directing, who wrote for the sequal, but also has has writing credits for 'Robocop' so I'm hoping for good payback & retribution against the bugs from Hero of the Federation!

The first one was some good fun, yeah...I suppose being based on an oldskool scifi book, it had more to work with.
I couldn't even watch more'n five minutes of the second one...the fake looking effects used for the weapons, and the overall lack of atmosphere was just too much.
The animated series was all good by me.
The third? don't even know if I'll bother until I hear some feedback.

I heard good things about Roughnecks, that it was quite popular with the originals fans. I think the the 3rd should skip anything to do with the sequal and carry straight on from the end of the 1st, since Rico is back and the premise does sound promising.

Man, I didn't even know there was a second one. I thought the first one was great mindless entertainment. Is the second one worth watching?

I'll pass, I liked the 1st one when it came out, but now I can't even start to watch it.

The few reviews I've seen for it have been terrible.

That's what I feared...Always rented when I've been to the store...is it a Sci-Fi made special?

Van Dien is back in it? well...that at least gets some kinda continuity with the first one...any of the other cast coming back? Ha, all I can think of that was in the first one is Jake Busey and Neil Patrick Harris...I wonder if even they'll be interested.
I got nothing against anyone that was in it (actually, van dien was in this kinda cool timetravelling thriller thing called "thrillseekers" that I quite liked)...it was all pretty strictly b-graders anyways, that was my expectation walking into the first one...it's more about the movie. The first one managed it, the second just didn't.

The first one was great fun, but to say the second was 'disappointing' is definitely an understatement, if the third follows on from the first it might be worth a view

i love part 2 its a lot of fun and so gory to you did not like it at all?
it was a great leap from the end of the first to the start of the second, like they missed out a huge chunk of the story, with any luck 3 will go back to the original plot and carry it on, that would make for an entertaining and fun movie

Trying to make me feel bad for making fun of him? I stand by my off-color remarks.
Just because he is a nice guy doesnt make him immune to jokes. I used to be a nice guy....
