Going through the threads i have noticed a couple of annoying things from members whose posts have barely past 100..
If you don't like whats in the threads...DON'T READ AND REPLY.
If you think the thread sucks...MOVE TO ANOTHER.
If you think its perverted...again..MOVE TO ANOTHER THREAD
Leaving sarcastic comments like ..perverted for mongolians or other
stupid stupid comments doesn't win you any brownie points..we don't think your clever.
Agreed this is a horror forum..you will find everything directed about our fav topic in other parts of the forum..
this the general section and if we want to be pervy assholes in here
WE WILL BE..!!

I'm good.
I think as long as you have something relevant to the thread topic, whether or not posetive or negative, as long as you present your p.o.v accurately and in a mature manner, it can (or at least should) result in a pretty decent discussion. Of course, there's a bit of idiocy here and there...but many times I've seen what I think you're referring to: Person enters thread, "fuck you and this topic", "you're wrong because I'm right"....that kinda deal? As though their personal tastes and/or ideas are the be all and end all, if you're not in line with them, you're not worth hearing from, hm? (eg - but WHY wouldn't you like that movie? - a soft example)
Of course, there's also trolling...where something of a minor (or what should've been) minor disagreement is taken too far by one party or another, be it started by a joke taken wrong, a snide remark, a misinterpretation, a conflicting opinion...to the extent of one following the other, spreading the problem into abundant threads...can't say I'm innocent on the argument factor, but behaviour like this is just stupid...of course, they all cry "innocent" soon enough when you resort to their own M.O.
As for trashing a thread on account of it's content...well, this is the general forum...I say provided it's appropriate and not endorsing or encouraging any kind of illegal or deviant behaviour, especially in our younger members or viewers, it's all good...I mean hey, MA15+ is pretty much what should be followed around the place in general, even if only to not provide the "horror = evil" crowd with any further ammo.

for the most part - the live and let live approach - especially in the general forum - is probably a good approach as long as the defined standards arent being abused ...
but i gotta tell you - there are some members as of late that dont seem to have a single thing to offer - anywhere - but making inane stupid comments on the end of every thread they find.
all last week during the day you'd see some pretty good thread content - then at a certain time all of a sudden each and every thread that previously had some good conversation happening - just dropped dead because of the 'thread killers'
I call it forum pollution.
there is never anything wrong with joking around .. but christ - cant it have a small degree of cleverness ?
I know this is MY problem .. i shouldnt give a shit really ... but other folks seem to share my feeling ... you'll have a smart or fun (or both) little exchange going with a few folks - then all of a sudden there's this wet fart of a comment - and people lose interest in the thread.
not everything everyone says will be gold .. but i've seen a visible increase in the number of members who's sole purpose seems to be leaving these little shit stains in every thread they can be arsed to click on.
and yes, i know there are people who probably think the exact same about my posts .. no doubt about that.
so .. i guess all i'm doing here is presenting my point of view... no solutions, no suggestions, no forseable resolutions.. .. its just whats been bugging me lately.

In the attempt to have an open and honest discussion we can't judge everying by two or three people's standards. The definition of what sucks and what is clever is up to an individual. If you think something is stupid and unclever, however, I think it's utter bullshit, when you try to convince other people that you're opinion about this person or thread.
I mean, we're smart enough to figure out that Renob is who he is, and people like him are who they are. People know who we, the afore-posted, are in some ways, and they've formed an opinion, and it might not be all that stellar.
Besides, it is, afterall, the internet. If we just keep to substandard, at least, who gives a fuck?

I agree with urgeok 100%. It is bugging the shit out of me too!! I remember when we had a few assholes show up here and there, but c'mon, give me a freakin break. I miss being able to come here and joke around without some fool saying something completely off the subject just for attention. I just want to be able to come here and read what the valuable and interesting members have to say without having to decipher through the bullshit. =0)

I'm on the fence on this issue. I'm annoyed by what I perceive as stupid comments, and I also make stupid comments sometimes just to be silly. Actually, it's more accurate to say that the "issue" is very nebulous.

kind of what i was getting at ...
but it does put you off.... proof i've seen by the sudden death of an active fun thread.
sort of like the person at a party that walks up and butchers a good conversation by laying some egg that leaves no-one with the energy to reply and continue.

I guess horror.com is actually like a drunken party (as opposed to a not really drunken party). More random things happen and occasionally conversations fall into a black pit of wtf just happened. It sucks when that happens, but it happens so much over here that I can only assume that there is a high percentage of silly little monkeys here.

The quality of the boards has went down hill as of late. Some of my favorite members from when I started, like YJ and mothermold, don't seem to be posting at all anymore.
I find it funny that when someone posts a thread bitching about something that honestly annoys them, they get slammed with 100 "OMGWTF who cares why do you bitch so much it's just a forum?" Then those people proceed to bitch about it in at least two seperate threads.
There are people who bitch that this board used to be fun and have good conversation. Then off they bound to the Stream of Consciousness thread to post several one word replies for the next hour.
As far as new members arriving, you really do have to adjust to us, not the other way around. Many of these guys have been here for a long time, and they're set in their ways. When you come, they expect certain things from you. Not to a dictatoresque level, but a common amount of respect until you learn the ropes. Every year, I'd bet the forums get 5-10 quality members who stick around for the long haul. I'd also be willing to wager that you get 5-10 members whos attitudes are "Whatever, I'm going to keep posting however I want about what I want lol:p ) Who end up driving 5-10 quality older members away.
It's the general progression of things. Believe it or not, I DID join here to talk about horror movies. I do enjoy casual conversation with the members I like and respect, but the level of either, for one reason or another, has reached a new low in my era.

I'm still trying to figure out how many of us "old timers" are still around...
You know, because Creeper was driven off by a lot of the bullshit. That actually pisses me off. I loved Creeper to death. However, maybe it wasn't the volume of nuthatches that drove people off. Perhaps they're lives became too hectic and one day....They'll return... If only that were true.
The reason I like to look at it like: It's just the internet is not for the purpose of the trolls, because they muck it up for everyone, but for the inside fights that happen from time to time. Also, it's a vantage point... You can say to yourself, "This person is not actually sitting in front of me, and if I shut my eyes, they really will go away." Also, you can see a person's name roll over it... Don't do that if it's someone who might have something decent to say, however...

Speaking as a newbie, I hate that some think the quality of horror.com has suffered because of the "new blood." Although I don't think any of your previous posts have been aimed at me, I do understand where you're coming from. I, in the short time I've been a member, have noticed that more and more of the posts are just plain stupid or mean or indecipherable.
When I first joined I was intimidated by all of the members with thousands of posts, so I was careful when wading into conversations. I basically used the same rules I use for face-to-face conversations:
1. I only posted when I felt I had something meaningful to add to the overall conversation.
2. I learned from other newbie's mistakes. If one of them got slammed for starting the 18th thread for a topic, I made sure to search for threads before I started one of my own.
3. I refrained from personal attacks and still do. If what I type would get me beat up in real life, I rephrase or run away....really fast.
4. I only disagreed with someone if I could do it in a relatively polite fashion and back up my opinion. I'm not talking about citing sources...just more than "that sucks" or "you suck." Of course, my temper can get the better of me from time to time, but at least I recognize that fact and am working on it.

i dont care how short or long of a time someone has been a member - it has to do with how people present themselves.
i've never been a newbie basher ...
but i have zero tolerance for stupidity/racism/sexism/ass kissing/bad asses ..
i dont like it in real life - i dont like it in a forum - and the things i mentioned that that bug me are certainly not exclusive to the newbies..
personally i look forward to new blood on the forum..new people should be encouraged to join. the problem is - when the forum is at a state where its full of idiotic shit - what kind of new members are we attracting ?

Hey IA - welcome back. I missed your triumphant return.
As for the forum, it goes in ups and downs - Flayed put it best - my sense is this is a 'down period' and I've had to muster my interest to log-on. (although, in fairness, i suspect i'm one of the 'problems' - i actually got a pm from a new member asking if i even cared about horror since i never post about anything horror-related. that hurt a bit. i'm actually considering pulling an Urge and banishing myself to the lower levels for the next few months - but i'm still pondering whether to do that or just take an early hiatus - 4444 seems so very very far away)

@heebiejeebies - I appreciate it, and I'm sure other members do, too. I don't expect everyone to go to the extremes that I do when I join a new forum. I went through a lot of old threads reading, catching up. When they make inside jokes from a time before me, I usually understand what they're talking about. If I don't, I go searching to try to find it so I understand what's going on.
I'm not, nor would I ever, suggest that you have to do all of this, or even refrain from posting for a few months. It's always courteous, however, that when you're a new guy on the team you learn what you can from the vets. We can tell if you've made an effort: I've never seen anyone here get overly cross at a new member for asking about a movie that already has a thread unless there's a thread on it in plain sight (within the first 3 pages) It's not just here; I've been members of science forums, writing forums and other horror forums. If you take a little amount of time, you'll most likely be welcome with open arms.
@zero - I think we've talked about this before. I notice that when there's a decent thread you make an attempt to be serious and discuss horror. You also participate in tournaments and projects. Besides, everyplace needs a little goofy comic relief. You're like the Snarf of HDC.:D
There have been times within the last month or so where I've almost thrown up my hands and said "To hell with it. I'm going to go find another forum." I don't because there are at least 40-50 members here who are extremely good conversationalists, not to mention I've learned a ton about movies from these guys. It's not an age thing either. There are 16-19 year olds here that know so much about movies that it makes my head spin. If I would have known that much at their age, I'd probably be publishing a magazine right now.
To the 4-5 members who actually read posts this long: insert sex joke here lawlz!

Maybe the solution is to start using the ignore list. I've never tried this, but I think I'll start. Nothing is wrong with occasional jokes or off-topic posts, but when that is all someone offers consistently...time to ignore.

So maybe we should all keep an eye on what we present to the forum, so as not to make idiots and or hypocrits of ourselves. Everybody has bad days. Everyone is going to be in a shitty moods. There's always going to be something in our personal lives that effect the way we react. So by editting ourselves sometimes, or just rereading your post before you hit "submit reply" it may make things smoother, and it will definitely weed out the people with a bit of something good from the folks who are around for no apparent reason.
