View Full Version : if i had a million

this is the corniest question ever asked .. but the one i'm actually interested in.

i know its ripe for the usual joke answers (like i always give myself)

but if you feel like it .. what would you do if you won a million - no more no less.

I know I'd try to let the interest grow for a couple of years. I'd have to see if it was enough for us to live off and quit our jobs.

if i was able to be finantially stable that way I'd love to open a specialty video(rent and buy)/memorabilia store.

(cult/horror/foreign)

some place I'd never have to listen to assholes ask me about movies I hate.

Are we speaking about 1 mill being the total AFTER taxes?

Quit IMMEDIATELY.

Move to a nicer part of the country. Get a decent house. InvestInvestInvest.

Begin writing as an occupation and whore myself until someone bought something and THAT became my main source of income.

Oh, and probably get REAL drunk.

I would invite MTV to make a reality show about me, then complain about the fame. :D

I'd buy a modest house; one bigger than I need for myself, but not rediculous.

I'd get a job that I enjoy. Just want to have something to do 3-4 days a week that pays just enough to cover utilities so I don't have to dip into my accounts for it. Maybe working at a comic book shop or an independent movie store.

Open a few bank accounts and start gathering interest. Probably buy some safe stocks.

After a few years, I'd definately want to open a big collectibles store for movies, video games, toys, comics etc.

Finally, if I made enough money, I'd try to buy the rights to a few B Horror flicks that haven't seen the light of day for awhile and re-release them.

Oooo.... Full circle....

A thread about having 1 million dollars, started by a canadian, then someone posts the lyrics to a song about having a million dollars, FROM A CANADIAN BAND!

Wait, are we talking US currency, here? Because if we are talking canadian then you can get a Denny's grand slam breakfast with extra bacon. Maybe a large slurpie.

neverending

First- pay off debts.

Buy some musical equipment.

Help some indie musicians out by releasing their CDs.

Spend some money publisizing my station.

Put on some theatrical productions.

Re-release some obscure music from the past.

Have some parties.

Lay around and watch a lot of movies.

Spread around a bit of dough to folks who've helped me over the years.

jesus i hate Dennys.
We have one in my town .. i cant think of anything that represents an invasion of the USA into Canada more than that fucking Dennys.

the clientel is usually 90% nascar lovin' baseball cap wearin' (inside) hillbilly inbreds. The food is typically american .. massive quantities of tastless garbage. Soylent Green would be more appetizing.

the kicker is ... my wife loves the place.

i refuse to go there anymore - but i remember the times in the past when i did... i could never get over the habit of looking out into the parking lot to make sure my imaginary 18 wheeler (haulin engine parts) was safe.

Debts paid.
Some kind of small to medium sized dwelling, some land to my name....place with a nice kitchen.
Buy a nice large hydroponics setup.
A LOT of cookbooks.
Buy and restore an S series valiant, add modern fittings.
New pc, any gaming console I wanted at the time.
Take my family and friends out someplace really nice, buy at least a few rounds...get mebbe a couple pounds of weed, share plenty.
Set a longterm deposit account for my brother, even if only initially say 20k or thereabouts.
Invest half of the rest, probably initially govt. bonds, and reasearch investment, give the other half to charities that go towards wildlife preservation and cancer research.

You know I've never really understood that...

Honestly what makes it so rude to wear a hat inside?

The Flayed One
11-21-2006, 06:54 AM
When I was young, they taught me three inappropriate times to wear hats:

1.) At the dinner table. I don't bother with this one. Tons of people wear hats when they eat.

2.) At church/during prayer. Not a Christian; doesn't apply.

3.) During the playing of the National Anthem. I'm not the most patriotic guy in the world, but I do observe this one.

I have noticed that most people 15+ years older than me have a habit of removing their hats when they walk inside. I just don't think it's considered rude like it once was. The only younger people I see remove their hats inside anymore are in the military.

dunno - whatever at one point a society deems something respectful.
just the way i was raised .. or my generation was.

it was always a sign of politeness and respect to doff ones hat indoors - as it was to doff it before a lady outdoors.

maybe its an extinct practice now ..

but there are probably examples of things that you do now out of habit/years of training that you dont question .. and if you did you'd probably not understand them either..

i thought of another ...

waiting for everyone to sit down before you start eating ..

same in toronto ..

anything remotely close to the core is around a million.

we're well outside of the core in a modest sized home and we bought it for $320,000

back in my hick hometown that would buy a mansion.

Looking around Arkansas online a few months ago (they have the lowest cost of living in the country there), there was a 4000 sq foot house on 6 acres of land going for 200 grand. Of course, it needed some tlc, but wasnt a dump by any stretch.

Too bad the job market in that particular town was non-existant, otherwise we probably would have moved.

Hate to break it to you, but a million wouldn't even come close to buying out Vodafone. Not sure what it's net worth is but Vodafone sold its units in Japan and Sweden for a total of $15.8 billion in the past year.

Nope, but I got a new one today...smaller than the other two, looks kinda different, may be a female (or a male if the former are female), clearly, still a bit of research to do.
They're all cool...not freaking out, getting along, eating crickets...all good n healthy.
