Half-Life Question

Ok, so who here has played Half-Life? I need a hand.

I havent been playing very long, so Im not very far yet. Im still in the Black Mesa facility, not long after everything went to shit.

I walked into a big, mostly empty room. Stairs leading up to a lever at the end of the room. I pull the lever, two of the little alien dudes pop out of a vent, and the platform infront of me starts to go down. I run down the stairs, dispatch the little aliens, and jump onto the platform. The jump damages me a bit, but I survived.

So the platform comes to a stop and Im in a new room. Bunch of boxes, a pool of water infront of me, and from where I am I can see two health boxes, and a hallway off to my left. No baddies around, so I figure I aughta go fill up my health and wander on down the hall.

Herein lies the problem: I cant move.

I can look around, I can shoot, but the arrow keys do nothing. Neither do the alternate controls, or jump.

My question is, is this a glitch (which Ive ran into more than once already), or is there something that Im supposed to do that Im not seeing?

No idea, the box didnt have any specs on it.

My PC is pretty good though...not state-of-the-art or anything, but it should be powerful enough. In 2004 it was pretty much top of the line, so I'd think it should still be good enough?

I wouldn't say it's a problem with your pc...I mean, it really doesn't take much to run halflife...
I'd say, try to replay the former level, and make sure you're standing in a different spot at the time that stuff happens...sometimes that's a way to get around glitches that fuck shit up...the game isn't frozen, so it'll probably work.

But then again, sometimes games are just fucked...I had a copy of the original halflife trilogy thing with "blue shift" and "opposing force", came with counterstrike and all that...everything worked fine, but blue shift froze halfway through...annoying, I was liking that.

If you mean the platform at the left on top of the room from where you can see down below into the room full of crates and the health portal and the pool, then that one usually causes the freezing of movement. You can look around and do anything you wish, but you cant move.

Your best bet is (if you have saved in the lever room) to start it again, jump onto the ramp as it is going down, fight off all the crabs and DONT JUMP till it nears the floor of the room down below. Then you can easily walk from there onto the new room, fill up the health you lost, then move on down the hallway and open the door to the next section.

Lucky you, it just so happnes that one of the regulars here is a writer for planet halflife. :)

There is a known bug with halflife from way back when that the elevators cause Gordons feet to get stuck. try this, if you have the conxole enabled (there is a setting n the options menu for this) , hit the ~ KEY, AND TYPE "sv_cheats 1".

Quicksave the game, then quickload it. then hit ~ again, and type in "noclip". this should allow you to move out of the elevator. You can fly around as much as you want, but once you are free, do noclip again and play through wihtout cheats, its much more rewarding.

yea! computer games are too annoying for me now. If it's not the game that needs stuff, it's your computer... so lame.

1942 was more fun to play than bf2
but it died out in the wake of bf2 release...
bf2 became the nemises to alot of clans
which saw many of them disband..including the one i used to be a part of.

The community has died here in NZ ..as many of the hard core have reverted back to 1942..
as for myself....have lost total interest in the whole gaming thingy
and have stopped playing almost altogether...have almost dropped entirely from the scene after spending 3 hard years up there amongst the best.

well im addicted as hell. i spend all day ranking up and such. it takes forever though.

I don't know how your guys servers were but ours ARGH!!
Doin server maintanence during a scrim !!!with no warning.
Xlan was good despite the clan coming 3rd in that comp..all good



the fucker thing is ...they keep bringing in too many patches ..
fuck we spent alot of scrims trying to keep up to date..
must admit though ..was kewl to play..but my preference wouldve been to stay with BF1942..
Right now ..some of the old clans are trying to bring back P.O.E
etc.

CS:S isnt too bad i play from time to time.

I have FEAR, D3, Q4, HL2/CS:S (and i had a copy of bf2 for a year but my buddy finally bought a new comp so he took it back ) but I never play them cause im such a wolf junkie. I recently uninstalled wolf tho, cause i was playing it too much again. I thought that it would let me finally get around to playing some of the other games, at least the SP version. but i still havent. oh well soon enuff.
