The horror splatter deal has been done to death. Braindead/Bad Taste was cool once around as was Army of Darkness. This hybrid is totally bankrupt and is bringing the genre into disrepute.

It really sucks how Shaun of the Dead and Dead and Breakfast are held in higher regard (fuck.... this shits been labeled "innovative" ) while flicks like Malevolence go unnoticed.

I'm not against this device in horror but film makers have forgotten the subtlety that actually made this shit work in the first place.

But whatever Black Sheep and Jackass 2 are calling......

It's true. Subtlety goes a long way. Modern filmmakers have forgotten the lessons that the great movies like Halloween & Texas Chainsaw Massacre have taught us. Gore is good, but it has its place.

Everyone thinks that things have to be over the top these days. Look at all the stock people placed in Hostel, and it was a letdown. George Lucas seemed to think that having over 30 Digital effects in EVERY shot would make the movies good. It made them visually interesting, but that doesnt make a movie good.

I have never been a fan of gore, I usually think it is just a sleight of hand... "Cringe at the blood so you wont notice that the acting and movie suck."

This is my feelings on everyhting i have seen from Argento. Bright, fake blood, wide eyes, boring movie.

everything goes in cycles .. the trends follow the $$$ the way a mule follows the carrot on a stick ..

whatever you're sick of now will quickly be replaced by something you'll be sick of tomorrow :)

Perhaps the lame Office style humour. Fucking thing may aswell have been a pilot for some shit Romero influenced The Young Ones grow up rip off.

An episode of Bottom with some zombies would've owned this bullshit in about 25 minutes.

DONE BEFORE & WHACK..... *yawns*

I never saw the office, so that is probably a big difference. Anything from england has a certain appeal because it is different from what i am used to in america, so what is overdone crap over there, is new for me.

Hell, i have seen more than a few english people here say how tired they are of Sean Pertwee. To me, he is Sarge from Dog Soldiers, so i love it every time he shows up somewhere.

Whether you like Argento's movies or not, you can't deny their originality.

He's an intelligent and unique filmmaker.

And Argento's best stuff (The Bird With the Crystal Plumage, Suspiria, Tenebrae, Deep Red) wasn't very bloody at all...

Deep Red! totally all the way. Although I did think its violence was pretty graphic and bloody, myself.

anyways...i think gore will never go out of style. i hope they keep making great splatter films for all eternity. i cant get enough of it. its not the only thing i like though. not at all. I enjoy innovative, different and well made horror films as well.

I actually thought Tenebrae (besides the ending) was quite average.

But you know, everyone's got an opinion.

My favorite Argento is Sleepless. For some reason, most people seem to have not bothered with it. It's a cool story, and if you like gore, there's quite a bit. Some of the best death scenes I've seen in a long time.

Deep Red is my favorite Argento film .. it might not be the fastest moviing but it is the most attractive and i've always dug Hemmings work

it was also the 1st one i saw/owned .. i have the old hard plastic case beta version still ..

My favorites are Creepers and Terror At The Opera. I haven't seen Sleepless yet.... heard it was pretty good from a couple of people.

I like Fulci a lot more.

Fucking ZOMBIES - if horror movies are ever to be taken truly seriously, no more zombie films!

In fact any more aspiring film makers who pitch ideas about an apocalyptic landscape crawling with the undead should be shot... in the head.

Same goes for 'knowing' zombie spoofs, too.

We need to think up some new horror creatures - how about bloodsucking, time-travelling aliens who like to slice up zombie-loving teenagers?

Yeah, zombies are just too cool. David Wellington's Monster series should be made into a movie, it would be very unique in the genre. Also hope to see Brook's World War Z turn out well although I haven't finished the book yet so far it's a good read. As far as any genre or sub-genre goes I think nothing needs to "stop" it just needs to be done better. If anything the genre needs less MTV sensibilities (and actors).

So does the Lincold Child/ Douglas Preston novel Cabinet of Curiosities.

It'd be another epic horror film, like Silence of the lambs, that could even contend for an Oscar.

it'll be interesting to see what Romero does with his return to indie filmmaking - Diary of the Dead should be finished shooting soon.
