View Full Version : My nightmare

Bree had to wake me up last night because I had an actual nightmare, the kind you have as a kid that scare the living shit out of you. For the record, "Nightmares" for me usually involve the Alien, or zombies, and while frightenijng, they tend to be exhilerating at the same time. This one was neither, it just scared the hell out of me.

It started with me pulling up to an old house. The context of the dream was that i was in the story of a TV show (at least, thats what it was in the beginning). I got out of my car and was on my cell phone with my wife, talking to her about whether i thought i really needed to continue on with what i was doing, it was just a TV show story i was living, i could leave and not worry about whatever crap was going to happen.

I will take a second to tell you that even in my dreams, i should just listen to my wife... She is usually right.

Anyway, i was walking past some mercedes, bmws, and other expensive cars of people who had gotten there ahead of me. It was a bog old vixtorian house, sitting on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees (which had overly shiny, overly green leaves), and the sun was sitting with just the top 5th over the horizon. I went to the door and knoicked, as i was getting off the phone with Bree, telling hwer i loved her, all the while imaging that waiting inside was a giant jumping spider waiting ot pounce. i could not imagine that the TV people were able to dreamup anything too scary for me.

I ended up openening the door and letting myself in. the place was old, dirty and messy, but i couldnt see anyone. And there was no giant spider. I saw a light was on, so i went upstairs to see if anyone was there. There was a kitchen at the top of the stairs.

In the kitchen, right by the door, was a tall paper bag with handles, the kind you would get at a Macy's, with a garbage bag inside, like it was being used as a trashcan. There was a little girl standing there in her pajamas, holding a stuffed lamb, digging in the trash. My dad instinct kicked in, and i said "Honey, dont play with that, plastic bags arent for little girls"

She looked back at me and had a grown woman's face.

i walked past into the kitchen, freaked out. she ran toawrd a door on the other side of the kitchen, and opened it. there was another woman wearing a night gown (an older woman, mid 50s) and tugged on it. She glared at me, and although she didnt say anything, I heard "WHat are you doing here?!"

i just shook my head, i didnt know what to say. She reached over and opened a closet door in the kitchen. The woman had changed, her face looked like a small round, evil clown head, only without makeup. i know i have seen it somewhere outside of the dream, but i dont know where (no, not killer clown s from outer space), and she grew long man arms, and began reaching for me.

However, something worse came out of the closet. it looked like a shorter old woman, her skin was desicated and deeply wrinkled. She had a couple of rotten patches on her skin. For all intents and purposes, she looked like an unwrapped, slightly rotten mummy in an old lady's nightie, but she had normal eyes. she charged me, grabbing my arms (which I FELT...Iusually dont feel things in dreams) and opening her mouth to bite me as she forced me into the counter.

I woke up to Bree shaking me and telling me i must be having a nightmare. I thanked her and just lay there, completely stunned. NOTHING like that had ever happened before, not even when i was a kid.

I heard Lily make anoise over the monitor, and was terrified to leave the bed and walk across the house to check on her. Especially in my adult life, I have never been that shaken by a dream before.

I've had dreams and nightmares similar to that. It's a situation where you sort of know you're dreaming, and even in the dream, you aren't really in a real place (Does that make sense? You're on TV or in a movie rather than at home or some other piece of "terra firma"). I'd love to analize that shit, but that's probably too weird for even you, Mr. -Stock.:D

It's horrible to have dreams like that, but after a few days, it's a story, and pretty good inspiration.

Do you remember the first nightmare you ever had? I do.

I usually enjoy them, but this one scared me beyond it being fun... Kind of like realizing the track is missing on a rollercoaster, after you crest the first hump...

Of course, i plan on using this, but MAN, it has been a long time since i felt that level of fear...

i've had reoccuring nightmares about invasions from the air .. huge, impossibly slow, unidentifiable airships that i instinctively know are bringing about world war 3.

a lot of different variations - but the theme is the same.
in the end i'm trying to get as far away as possible.

the sense of terror is so intense i can feel it just trying to remember the dreams..

I have to resurrect this thread, because I had an interesting dream last night. It wasn't scary, just interesting and weird.

Apparently I was in the company of Rob and Sheri Moon. Hmmm. Sheri Moon was taking me around to locations where they had filmed Devils Rejects. Very nice young lady if my dream has anything to say. Rob, was an intense listener. Very profound, he was. Although, there was some jackass in the dream that was always understanding the underlying meaning of my questions, and I'd have to shut him up. That's the only strange part.

Odd, because there was nothing really surreal about this dream. It almost seems as if it were a story. This is the reason that it struck me as strange to dream about these two people. I totally respect Rob Zombie's artistic ability and Sheri Moon's acting ability (because that's what I'm familiar with). The thing is, if all dreams are symbolic, what did these two people represent? Why did I have a dream about the out of nowhere? You know, I've been hanging out here for what will be three years in December, but I've never dreamed of icons, even the ones I've admired for their work.

As Alice said..."Curiouser and curiouser."

A theme of personal self-limitation? You're talking to two people you respect as artists about a film they made (and the underlying meaning of its story). There is an unidentified "other person" in the dream that keeps analyzing the underlying meanings of your questions and you have to "shut him up."

So maybe the "other person" was an aspect of you, and the way you silenced the other person repeatedly is your dream making a comment/joke about seeking greatness in other people instead of within yourself. The character was male to make it harder to figure out that it was actually you. Or, the character was male because he represented an aspect of you that you are repressing. Seems like one of those self-analysis dreams.

This is just an offhand analysis on my part, not to be taken too seriously.

Hear it comes, right, but I've done that. I'm not saying that I'm ultra cool, because everyone can or has done that, whether they remember it or not. I think it depends on what state of REM (which is the state you're in when you dream). I suppose that if you're more towards the waking side of REM state, you're more able to do that type of dream management.

I mean, in the dream that started this thread, Vod had a sense that he was dreaming. Sometimes when you know you're dreaming you can manipulate the events in a dream, sort of like a defense mechanism, and sometimes you can't. I honestly think it depends on how close to consciousness you are without being outside of the REM state.

You've probably done this yourself, Forgey, but you may not remember.

I had a friend once that thought she was ultra cool because she had changed perspectives in her dream. She had gone from being herself, to this other guy across the parking lot (the locale of the dream), to an old lady. I was like, "Dude, that happens to everybody." Dreams are really neat, because while we all dream differently, there are all kinds of experiences to be had. Everybody has them at one point or another. That's just life and sleep and shit.

Where it gets hairy are people who have or claimed to have had prophetic dreams or have "walked" into someone else's dream or their presence if that person is awake (most of the time, it's not deliberate, but there are a few people that say they do it on purpose...I don't know. I believe in stuff like that, but then again, I don't really trust people. I've never done it. I've never heard of anyone doing whom I trust to be honest with me so, that's up for grabs).

I do it as well, only sometimes I'll change the dream. Like if I'm dreaming I'm a cop in a shootout I'll think that it's not intense enough and put myself in a war scenerio instead. Sometimes I'll change what I'l eating or smelling in a dream or even have moral issues (weird) with doing things in a dream. My dreams are always weird anyway, doesn't matter if I change them or not. I just don't go deep enough into sleep sometimes.

Wow that sonds very creepy Vod. I especially got freaked out about the non-makeup clown face and man arms. I have had many nightmares in my life, but they usually end up being forgotten, or they aren't as bad as shakeing me from sleep. However have you ever had a night terror. Well one time I went to bed and opened my eyes, I was asleep yet I was awake too, its an in between state. Reports have been done about this and people usually see things that are so real that you are just horrified. Well back to my story I opened my eyes and there standing along side my bed was an old man. He was dressed in black with a old quaker looking hat on. He was sort of Poltergiest man looking. He grinned and just stared at me. I froze stiff, I couldn't move, could hardly breath. It seemed like it lasted forever. The scary part was I knew I was awake but I couldn't move speak, just stay there. After about five minutes of staring at this man I awoke and was out of breath-NIGHT TERROR.

Let the fallen dreams become the nightmares of terror, or the reality of our imagination.

2 Weird Nightmares/Dreams:

1.
I was suffering from a major migraine so took some painkillers, probably too many pain killers.

In this dream there was a young girl who was being picked on at school, by the rest of the school children. Then the teachers began to pick on her as well, calling her a little witch bitch. The girl gets fed up with this so she naturally runs away.

I woke up after this, then fell asleep again and dreamt this: the same girl is now a teenager and again she suffers from being picked on by everyone, each calling her a witch, again she runs away.

Again I woke up, then fell asleep again and this followed: the same girl is now an adult, but she still gets picked on, until this time she looks at the rest of the adults and says "Yes, you were all right, I am a witch and starts cursing everyone else, who all explode.

It's not the dream that bothers me but the fact the dream seemed to keep on going from where the previous one left off.

I can only think that in my subconcious i have a persecution complex or am hurt some how and this is my way of saying fuck you or something like that.

2. I was going home, late at night and found I was lost, even though I was in the same street as my house. Someone had built a train station in my street and I was told this was the only way to my house. I got off the train to discover my house was on the other side of a steep valley with a wide river underneath, and the only way across was by crossing a bridge, which just happened to stop about 20ft to the other side. I looked down towards the river and felt dizzy. I woke up then and couldn't sleep. :(

I do have a dislike for heights but don't know about the feeling lost part.

Speaking of sleep Urge, do you remember the case in Toronto where the guy, who allegedly was in a state of sonabulism (sleepwalking) drove 14 miles across town and murdered his mother and father-in-law? The defense worked. He was found "not guilty" under this plea. His name was Ken something.

If you recall this, could you possibly conceive of that? I'm assuming that the answer is no, because even given my perspective on things, I had a hard time accepting that plea wasn't total bullshit. However, since you live in Toronto, and I'm sure that story was all over the papers, I'm interested in your take, if you'd be willing to give it.
