I love Eli Roths work. Hostel was the best. Cabin fever was very good to because he tapped into your worst fear...your skin falling off!

He's all right. I liked Hostel, but didn't care for Cabin Fever.

I feel the same way about him as I feel about Rob Zombie - he's got a really good film in him, we just haven't seen it yet.

But he is a fun, nice guy.

It had mostly Sex and Drugs for the first half. If I wanted to see Sex for that long, I would watch Porn. Bring the Torture! I hope Hostel 2 will be better.:D

So far I dont care for him, Strikes me as a boy who really could have used a lot more tail in High School. I could have too, but I'm not trying to live it our in film. If i want a pervert, i'll watch a Russ Meyer flick.

I thought both Hostel and Cabin Fever were ok but yeah, so far he's alright. I think I like Mr. Zombie's work better and I think he progressed further between films.

Really? I think he needs to do something different. I don't see Hostel 2 or Cell really giving me an idea of what Eli is capable of. Late 2007 or maybe 2008 is when I see him putting out something defining.

Couldn't we all of used more ? :D I really like Eli Roth but when it comes to him vs Zombie, it has go to be Zombie he is the man and I love his work !

I thought that Roth really showed promise with Cabin Fever. Hostel... ugh. I didn't like it at all, but I've stated my opinion on this many times. Maybe he can make a better film, but I have a feeling he may get stuck in a rut of exploitation/torture flicks.

I don't care for him at all. He came across as being fairly lame on the Bravo count downs, and both Cabin Fever and Hostel were weak. I excused Cabin Fever because it was his first film, but Hostel was such a waste of time. I get the sense that Roth has a very high opinion of himself, but he hasn't come close to earning that. I don't plan to bother with Hostel 2 or any more of his films unless I hear that he has gotten his act together.

He was at the beginning of the movie when the boys first started off on their trip and he played a hitchhiker, it was really small part.

He's got potential... I liked parts of CF and Hostel. I like his passion for the trashiness of the genre (gore/nudity). He might put out something impressive or else annoy me with dipshit characters.....

This was my main problem with Hostel. The characters were so utterly unlikeable that it was impossible to connect with them.

Agreed, good horror should have characters that you care about, so that ther eis an empathetic link tot hem when something happens, you get a stronger feeling. Eli Roth's characters are the kind of people I would LIKE to torture and kill, so who hives a rat's ass what happens to them.

And if he thinks they are sympathetic characters, then what does that say about him?

He seriously strikes me as the kind of guy who would slip a girl roofies...

The whole point of Hostel was to show the perils of being the Ugly American. It was a specifically political statement about America's arogance toward and disregard for the rest of the world. The leads were assholes who got what they had coming because they view Europe as a place to buy pleasure without repurcussions.

And I've meet Eli, he's really nice and cool and quite goofy. Not a serial rapist.

Isn't that stereotyping Americans? I guess he's fighting what he thinks is fire with his own brand of flames but I know a lot of people who have gone to Europe and I think 99% of them have been nothing but respectful. Ah well, like I said, I'm waiting to see if he really has a good horror in him somewhere. He's had a couple of decent films so far but nothing with real soul.

He's streotyping the "Ugly American"

it's a pretty old concept that still rings true. Not all Americans are the "Ugly American" hell, not even half of them are, but there are a TON of them out there.

That can be said of many peoples though. Ah well, it really doesn't matter. Has anybody read King's Cell yet? Is it viable source material for Eli? I'd hate to see him direct a movie based on a bad book, not so soon in his career. At least he'll have time to bounce back if it's not good though.

Dug Cabin Fever, thought it was a lot of fun. Didn't hate Hostel, but I'll probably have totally forgotten about it in a few years time.

The thing is that he tries so hard to shock that most of his shit ends up looking silly.

Do you really think a guy would go down a dead chick's pants intending to finger her but end up fingering a large bloody gash on her thigh? A ten-year-old would know where a vagina is...

The whole "Splat Pack" (Alexandre Aja, Darren Lynn Bousman, Neil Marshall, Greg McLean, Eli Roth, Leigh Whannell & Rob Zombie) looks like they could really come through with some great stuff for the genre. I can't wait to see Zombies next one, that cartoon The Haunted World of El Superbeasto even though it's going to be directed by a couple of Spongebob alumni ?????? . Just watched Wan's short film Saw (the short that was included on the special edition of Saw) and it was done so well. Anyway enough rambling, can't wait to see Eli in Grindhouse.

Eli Roth got his idea for Cabin Fever when he was in Iceland and contracted a lesser case of the flesh-eating disease. The now infamous shaving-legs scene in the bath tub is based on when Roth shaved his face and layers of skin came off while having the disease.

I can't stand Aja - empty imagry. My agent recently submitted something of mine to him without asking me first. He won't do that again.

Adam Green (Hatchet) and Scott Glosserman (Behind the Mask) will be the new kings of the genre

Hatchet and Behind the Mask have had some pretty fuckin' dope reviews... but those early reviews before wider release seem to be people pimping their own shit. Pretty amped on Hatchet, dude sounds like he has a passion for exploitation cinema and is keeping true to the genre making shit for the fans.
I'm a bit more dubious of Behind The Mask.

theres big spreads on both flicks in the new fangoria, hatchet def' sounds more like my type of film. maybe that's not true, but behind the mask just sounds too much like a knock off of man bites dog.

Don't be, it's a clever, witty and very good movie. It had to be to beat The Descent for first place at the Fantasia festival awards last year.

i liked 'cabin fever' more than 'hostel'. there was something about the setting of cabin fever and the slight humor that did it for me. anyway, i hope he makes more cool movies. did anyone else ever see 'terror firmer' from troma? i think he was in that, or maybe a different troma movie, not sure.

I'm really not sure about Eli. I couldn't decide whether I liked Cabin Fever or not, but Hostel was good. 2001 Maniacs (one of the ones not many people have heard of) looks awesome just because of the appearance of horror legend Dave England, A.K.A. Freddy Kruger. I think that his approach on mixing horror and comedy is not exactly in my taste. I didn't know Hostel 2 was coming out, I'll definitely have to check up on that one.
