I wish the 2nd one was on DVD. Not only is it a prequel, but damn, Diane Franklin is hot. That's some Christmas joy I'm talkin' about. Hubba, hubba, hubba!

The guy who ghost-wrote the book with the original owners sued them a few years back for not paying him any royalties on all the sequels. He said the whole thing was a hoax from the beginning and he should own a slice of the pie just like any creater of fiction. The judge agreed, so the Amityville poltergeist might be the only ghost ruled a hoax in a court of law. Boy, was his sheet red (I crack myself up.)

It was a hoax? You just crushed my dreams
I dont know what dreams could involve having AVH be real, but ya know.....;)
the second movie wich dealt with the murders was based on some truth. SOME truth. the son did kill his family members. From what I understand it was ALL about the benjamins folks. He wanted the fat cash from the insurance money. He states his sister was behind it all. But then, why kill her???!!! Funny footnote: Look for a new 'remake' version of the original.

I live 2 miles from the house and I believe it. Whenever we would drive by the same song would come on the radio, "I don't Like Mondays" about the girl who goes to school and shoots everyone down. Yea, it's all true...

It's ok. It's one of those classic, must see horror films.
Also, if you like that, and are into a little bit of comedy mixed in with your horror, check out House.

I like what he said about writing alien. He also wrote "darkstar", which sucked monkey balls.

Underrated gem, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR.
The flies, the booming during the night, those creepy little eyes in the darkness, "GET OUT!!!", the pit of blood... and watching James Brolin slowly go nutzoid - hell, even the house itself looks damn scary.

Fuck yeah, Amityville is possibly the only film that I couldn't sit and watch on my own it freaks me out that much - although I'll admit it's a lot to do with my own conditioning and neurosis as a child rather than the film itself but it really is a gem of a movie.
You didn't mention that soundtrack though *shivvers*
