I was on a business trip to Denver this week -- and rented this one in my hotel before crashing for the night.

Whoa.

Way better than I expected. The scariest parts were the scenes where the women were trapped in the cave. Pitch black and surrounded by rock. I was getting creeped just watching them crawl through those tights cave tubes. I've always been slightly claustrophobic, but this movie brought it out in force.

No way I'm I going into a farkin' cave.

The creepers were not as tough as I expected -- too dumb and too weak for my taste.

My only real complaint was that it was difficult at times to tell the different women apart.

All in all -- good fear.

Agree 100% Neil Marshall is establishing himself as one hell of a monster movie director. Unlike many current horror directors, he really gets the nature of horror, the reason why we're scared. That's why his films work so well.

I eagerly await his next effort.

He should have given a bit of an explanation about the creepers. What are they? I was thinking they might be related to the miners whose equipment they found -- but he didn't even really try.

But, indeed, Marshall is a damn good filmmaker.

Amazing film indeed. One of the best of the last few years. As for the crawlers, I liked the way Marshall hinted at things (like the drawings and the suggestion that they were a different evolution of mankind) without explaining too much.

i think his strongest point is that he fills out his characters ..
something rare in genre films ... you actually give a shit about the people.

(thats the element that has to be married to 'understanding our fears'
give us characters we can fear for .. )

Loved it. Very scary, and a unique premise.

okay, im gonna clear this up. The creapers were meant to be, like stated earlier, another form of humans. Picture this. Millions of years ago, these apes started living underground. The creapers are what has evolved from them.

As for the miners equipment, its meant to show that people have been their before, yet it isnt charted. This shows that people go down, but nobody has ever come up.

I loved the ending which made you feel good then shocked and slightly sorry for this girl. I laughed when the girl got a pickaxe through the knee because throughout the film she was the one who made mistakes and got them into it.

I was bummed she got killed. She was arrogant (and was sleeping with her friend's husband), but I kind of liked her.

instead of typing something else why didnt you just check yur spelling nub...way to go kid

shit like this is what keeps these boards from being as magnificent as they should be...

I am obviously going to feel admin heat for flaming a post, but i seriously think if we are the people in charge of posting on the number one horror hit on the web we should do a better job than just saying "hey, i suck at typing and i could give a fuck less" , i mean seriously wtf would yur mum think?

Horror movies are alot of things to me.... most of all they are meaningful, and i would hope that anyone who stumbles in here on a whim, or a fucking whatever, gets the best fucking treatment. They deserve it. Let's face it, horror movies have been dead since the 80's and we are experiencing a comeback. I didn't start it nor did anyone else reading this, but, if we all are true horror fans, and im pretty fucking sure we are, we should keep it coming. I find it amazing that all of a sudden everyone wants what we have all wanted all along... scary movies, gory movies, funny movies, we all wanted the shit to hit the fan ever since horror died when a cocaine induced decade went away. If you look at these boards you can see where we all came from and where we are all going, its me, omcdave, alky, v, all the admins, flayed, disease... its fucking all of us...

Jiminy Cricket is october and we are all in charger of keeping this torch, not only burning, but fucking BURNING ...like, i dunno light some roman candles .. we are in charge of this and we need to embrace it. You can rip this post down but i think, its fucking october with 8 days before the day we all live for, so we should all really embrace the reason were hre and the reason we love horror. WE are all one.

I just found out that the american version cuts the last minute off.

SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW

In the original UK version which was in our cinemas like a year ago it cuts back to her being in the cave, and shes imagined getting out...because shes gone a bit mental. It ends with her stuck there with no way out.

For the US version they cut this bit out, can't you guys not handle movies without happy endings? :P

Nice.

Yes I create some non-horror related posts. But I also bring some good horror-related conversations to the board.

I agree with your statements on the fact that we are all connected by our love of horror, and we should recognize and embrace that...but it wasn't a good idea to make those "unity" points in the same post that you attempted to bring me down.

Despite its flaws its miles ahead of Doomsday. I thought this one was solid and liked it more than Alie... ummm I mean Dog Soldiers.

Yeh man it sucked cocks in hell IMO. I love all the 80s Road Warrior knockoffs and just found it insulting because it totally missed the point of those flicks stylistically. It started off ok but then just spiraled into a total shitfest.
