i might pick up the laserdisc ..
this thing went for a lot of money back in the day - now its cheap.
i dont want to spend a lot of $$$ on something i might think is just shit (pardon the pun)

Yeah, I've never heard of it being that rare. $10-$20 sounds about right. I've heard that the transfer was terrible. That surprises me a little bit, seeing as Criterion usually pulls out all of the stops to make a high quality DVD.

that cheap one isnt the origional criterion ...
there are a bunch of cheap fakes around .. i believe there is a name - identified by the colour of the middle circle (white) or something like that

Yep, it's been re-released since the "white circle" version was pulled. Same movie... you can own the real DVD cheap but that particular "white circle" disc is worth some dough. I hope the Sleepaway Camp "Red Cross" Box Set goes for that kind of scratch one day.

It depends whether you want it as a collectors item or just to see the film. You can pick up a copy cheaply as I did along with irreversable and baise moi. But if you want the original etc etc it will cost you more. Though what I'm not sure is how much there has been done in terms of editing, thinking along the lines of I spit on your grave for example.
