A KILLER used his skills as a hospital pathology worker to cut up his lover’s body which he buried in his back garden, a jury heard yesterday.
Donald Platt put the remains of Saraya Broadhurst, 39, into eight plastic bags. When a neighbour saw him digging a large hole he said he was building a rockery.
The gruesome secret lay undiscovered for four years until cops dug up the garden in Torquay, Devon, last November.
Exeter Crown Court heard Platt probably killed Saraya his partner of ten years, during a row at their home in April 2001.
He told cops: “I remember grabbing her neck with both hands saying, ‘Just calm down and shut up’. I must have grabbed her harder than I thought. I remember her falling back on the sofa. I expected her to get back up.”
Saraya’s internal organs were removed with her rib cage cut open, as in a post-mortem.
Platt, 52, who cashed Saraya’s benefit cheque for 2˝ more years, denies murder but admits obstructing a coroner in his duty.
