Which scares you more? Slasher films or demonic possession films??
To me they can both really happen, but I must say stuff where people get possessed by demons TOTALLY freaks me out! Scares the pants off me! Besides the obvious, Exocist, Exorcism of Emily Rose, Amityville, etc, any good demon movies?? I want to watch them, but I don't want to watch them. Know what I mean??
Growing up Catholic probably doesn't help matters any, lol.

How many folks you know've been possessed?
It's a tale to steer you from the "devil". Blah blah blah...
Which is scarier?
Slasher...something I actually believe in is acts done by man, and shitty acts done by other man to make man act shitty...and slash.
Not that I really find it personally scary, I have a bigger knife than most.

I believe possession can definately occur. I will have to say slasher because that is the maain asumption of horror. Teen slasher flicks. I love all horror genres but Slashers are one of my favorite.

Neither...I'm not scared easily. I have enough weapons to deal with a slasher villain, and I AM a HOLY TERROR! haha!

I have yet to find any movie that scare me. I like Possession movies but I think Slasher I enjoy more. Although I love Vampire movies and to me those kind of have both. It's just silly to me when someone is possessed, I am trying to think of one movie that did it well and I can't, they are usually just ridiculous and silly, fun to watch though!

possession i guess ..
i dont believe in it but i get a kick out of the old school good vs evil scenarios and they are usually far more interesting as far as how their shot - than some goof stumbling around in the woods with a machette killing 1 dimentional characters i could care less about.

I vote for possesion. I also dont believe in it, but they makers of possesion movies tend to rely on atmosphere and build-up of tension to scare you, rather than the "running-away, blood and guts" approach of slashers.

I would say possession is a more interesting watch. Slashers can be (not always) predictable. Although watching either of these doesnt really scare me I would have to say the general thought that there are killers out there would have to be a more scary thought.

Exorcist style possession or smelly Voorhees on the prowl. I know which I prefer.

What! Possession is not real?? Oh geez you guys! Ok, I have two really good books written by three of the formost authorities in demonolgy, read them and they will really scare you. I do believe in possession, and NO I have not actually seen or know anyone possessed, but....
The Demonologist: The Extraordinary Careet of Ed and Lorraine Warren - Gerald Daniel Brittle
Shadows of the Dark - John Zaffis and Brian McIntyre
If you don't know who the Warrens are, the are HUGE in the paranormal world. Actually Ed Warren just passed away about a month ago. The book is about their cases. The other one is by John Zaffis who is their nephew and trained by them and his cases. You can find out other stuff about them by googling their names.
Anyway, they are scary books. After reading them I refuse to use my Ouji board anymore. (Seriously)
One more question regarding a possession movie I saw on TV years and years ago, maybe like 25 or 30 years ago, all I remember is this woman was possessed and she was all possessed out standing by a indoor pool and this guy came in the across the room and she opened her mouth and all these black tacks came out of her mouth and were shooting at him. It really scared me back then, but I have never been able to figure out the name of the movie. Anybody???? Thanks

See, here's the thing with these "foremost authorities"...if a renowned biologist tells me he has a yellow and red flashing penis, and pinecones for testicles, I'd still probably (gross) have to insist upon first hand proof before blindly accepting this to be true...that, and WHO calls them the foremost authorities? To me, they're just more crazies...Like a guide dog pimping his owners mad eyesight skillz.

I lump possession flicks in with haunting flicks in that they usually just suck. Slasher films are generally cool, but neither is scary to me. In fact, I think I'd prefer to be dealing with a slasher or a demon over a deranged family of cannibal hillbillys or something along those lines... While we don't see too many people getting possessed or stalking people from behind a mask, the fucked up weird hillbillys ARE out there. Small towns around Minnesota & Wisconsin creep me out, but if you go way out in to the boonies, you will certainly meet some fucked up folks.

you remind me of:
As a scientist (no really, I went to University, got an honours in Environmental Sciences); i would suggest possession could partly be true, on a psychological level, eg a person undergoes some form of trauma, leading to hallucinagenic episodes, changes to personality, depression could be thought of as possessed.
Also remember that in certain periods of man's history often sufferers of disease may well have been thought of as being possessed, eg leprosy, epilepsy etc..
Oh and I prefer slasher films.

Those are some examples of things that could be mistaken for possession, but they aren't actually possession.

apparently Ms Blair didn't want to talk about The Exorcist at all and the only thing people brought her to sign was - copies of the exorcist.
she got a kick out of the fact that i brought Repossessed..
plus it had canadian content (Leslie Neilson)

I have heard in an interview she had quite some issues for years after having done The Exorcist as a child.

I know. And I see what you were getting at, but all I'm saying is thinking someone's in your head is a far cry from someone actually being in there. It makes them insane, not possessed.

You seen Leslie act seriously, I think he was the captain in the origanal posieden adventure, plus swear ive, seen him in some others, but police story was just genious, that was his step up and out, seeya later.
Leslie Neilson was the Capt. in Forbidden Planet, I also saw him in a sci-fi flick a few years ago, can't remember the name but it was about the destruction of the ozone layer and people where going mad with the heat/ radiation, i think he ended up fighting a grizzly bear?

Well, I still don't think slasher movies are scary, there are a lot more things that are scarier than a lot of blood and guts.
