Do you find yourself becoming more or less picky about the movies you watch?
I've definately become less snooty. There are very few movies I can't enjoy on at least some level. It almost has to be Catwoman bad for me to say a movie sucks anymore. There are still a lot of disappointments, but very few anymore I find myself despising.
Thoughts?

And I'm the opposite, Flayed. I've become way more picky than I used to be. There's been many movies discussed here that everyone loved that I just hated.

I'm with hammerfan. i am VERY picky these days. Especially since i am trying to get into screenwriting myself, i am snooty as hell. i would like to make GOOD movies and it pisses meoff to see the shit that gets made because someone saw a profit in it.

I am also more picky. Especially with horror flicks because they just don't make em like they used to. Very few new ones have been worth even seeing for me. Even less worth buying. And there are so many movies that are practically the same as 5 other movies, it's just the same crap over and over.

Sorry, I've never been picky about my movies. Well, I mean, I only watch HORROR, but as far as which ones, I'm not. I mostly flip a coin to see which one I'm watching next.

Oh yeah, I definitely get pickier! The older I get the less time I have to do the stuff I want to do, my time is valuable to me and I only spend it on stuff I love or need to do.
LOL, for example as much as I love the horror flicks, my husband likes stupid comedies! I CANNOT waste my time on a stupid movie, like for instance (and I don't mean to offend anyone) he wants to go see Jackass II! I would rather stay home and clean out the garage then go to that!
LOL, see I am picky. Again sorry I did not mean to offend anyone.

I dont think you will offend anyone. For the most part, if someone has a postcount higher than 200, they are pretty thick skinned.
I know exactl;y what you are saying. we have a baby, i have a 3 hour daily commute, and we have been workingon our house for 4 months now (not to mention i write for planethalflife, my own site AND i am trying to get awriting carreer off the ground, and eventually a small business). Time is about my most precious commodity, and i dont want to weste a second on "entertainment" that doesnt have me enthralled for the whole time. So far, we have had a good track record. Except for Aeon Flux....
What a fucking waste of time that was....

i'm about as old as it get in here - and i'm infinately more picky the older i get.
the older you get supposedly the more movies you've seen ..
the more movies you've seen the more the cream rises to the top.
you become increasingly more aware of repetition, unorigionality, your tastes can become more refined as things you thought were funny as a kid arent funny anymore (thank god that hasn't happened to me)
you basically become jaded.
yes, ignorance IS bliss.

things you thought were funny as a kid arent funny anymore (thank god that hasn't happened to me) That's because you are Canadian. Being in America has an amazing way of dragging your innocence out into the street, hate criming it then smothering it in PC spooge and running it over with Terror Alerts.
No wonder we're all so stressed.

Nothing is more cerebral than his dad reading that he might get more work because his new girl is goingot give him a "blow job" and his brother starts losing it while everyone els ehtinks she's just some sweet little thing that s going ot help him make more money.

I seriously doubt that will offend anyone here. I mean come on, we are the HORROR critics. We are on your side. ;)
Jackass II....Not something I want to waste my time on.

Hmmm....I seem to be the only one so far whose grown less picky so far. Or perhaps it's just that I've grown to love cheese more with every passing year.

I find that my tastes overall have matured a little...I think I'm more open to trying new kinds of movies I may not have watched at a younger age.
Asian films, black and whites, "mature" sci-fi...never gave those much of a chance, now some are among my favourite films.
With that, I've left behind a few crappy "explosion" films...loved those as a kid, now I just find them a chore.
I generally won't judge a film 'til I've watched it, but yes...I don't find I'm generally as satisfied with movies these days...I expect thats the deal with a lot of people, as you grow, you figure out your tastes...etc.

I'm still a kid, so I'm not all that picky on what I watch. I'll give almost anything a chance, but it takes a lot for me to really like a movie.

I think it's more a case of... my tastes have changed as i've got older, i'm also more willing to watch something outside my usual choice, which i wouldn't have entertained doing when i was younger

I'm sure I'm less fun to watch a movie with than before, but I will watch almost anything these days.
I find there is more to learn from a bad film than a great one. While watching a crappy flick, I can feel missed opportunities and poor decisions and hopefully aviod making the same mistakes in the future.

I love cheesy low budget movies....I love horror, sci-fi, westerns, action, kids movies, anime.....I'm less picky because most of the time I can find something endearing about what I'm watching.

I'll watch anything, even if I dont think Im gonna like it. If I have a chance to watch a movie, I'll take it no matter what we're going to see.
If Im watching a movie alone Im more picky than that...but really, I just love watching movies.

Well said...
I certainly would not be watching some of things that I do if it hadn't been for say, my older brother, who has incredible taste in film or a friend saying, "I know you're not into (insert genre), but I just bought this, and I thought..." Also, my horror tastes have expanded by my exposure to or through (take your pick:D ) this forum.
However, my taste in "horror" itself is leaning more towards films like "The Ring" and less towards films like "The Devil's Rejects." It isn't because one director is better per-se, but more because of the stories. You know, because films are stories... moving pictures. As I said in a previous thread, there are too many violent sociopathic people in the real world, so I'd rather not "escape" to a world filled with the same kind of people. I'd rather be frightened/intrigued by something else that isn't a part of this "daily reality" type thing.
Also, if I may ramble on... I want to watch a movie to be entertained. If there happens to be a deep underlying point about the tragedy of the human subconscience, great. If not, I don't give a shit, as long as it was a good story, and I was entertained. For example, many of you greatly dislike M. Night Shyamalan. Sure, he's campy, but the fucker tells a good story, and that's something that I appreciate (and the fact that he casts Bryce Dallas Howard a lot. She's purdy:) ).

I'll watch anything...from Driving Miss Daisy to Nekromantik.
And I'll enjoy most.
(For the record, I love DMD and hate Nekro...)
Getting a bit more selective in my older years. Although sometimes......you gotta have the cheese.

Well I'm 18 and I am not too picky. Some movies just suck and as mentioned earlier in this thread, I can tolerate most movies but not really the new horror as much. We all know it, the new age horror movies(except for a few gems).....suck. I love everything from the classics to 2006 anything and everything.

More picky. After seeing the same crappy kind of movie for the hundredth time, I can tolerate it less each time.
Also, when younger, I didn't really know all the good movies I know now, so I had less to compare to.

I know I have very little interest in current films. Maybe some are good, but I am less and less inclined to want to see the new stuff because of recent experiences. I tend to watch older films far more. And I seek out a lot of older bad movies because those are basically my favorite stuff to watch.
Good films tend to make me think, and most of the time I just want to relax; and a really funny bad movie, or just a quirky old weird movie, allows me to relax.

Well yeah you can feel the love the people involved had for their movies. I brings a tear to my eye to think of the current mini-apocalypse.
