The Golden 80s Horror Tournament

Its been awhile since I completed my 2nd successful tournament in which Alien beat The Thing to become the best Space Horror movie, as chosen by HDC members.

Now since we have only BW's horror-comedy tournament, I decided to start one on the basis of an idea in one of the other threads, that is to see which movie was THE best of the 1980s.

Now everyone knows that the 80s was the last big hurrah for the horror movie genre, and any movies made after that era simply did not live upto expectations. The 70s and the 80s redefined the horror genre and gave many memorable classic horror movies which stand incomparable even today.

I have shortlisted a bunch of movies based on user votes and popularity at IMDB ranging from releases from 1980 to 1989. Before starting the tournament, I d like to clarify that the rules stay the same for the initial rounds. 5 votes in favor will decide the winner, and just in case I am not online to declare it, you may continue to vote (just like in BW's tourneys).

Yeah, I think that last one was a real hard choice, i'm kinda glad I missed it.

I just bought friday 13th 6 on vhs a few weeks ago and after watching it again, it is definatley in the top 4 of the series, I think it also has the most kills for Jason out of them all, but on the other hand Cristopher Walken was fucking great in Dead Zone,

I personally grade F13 VIth as one of the top 3 in the series for me. Dead Zone is a gem, IMO.

Christopher Walken is great in anything he does, but F13 epitomizes 80s horror for me.

I never saw Altered States & H3 gets a bad wrap because it doesn't have Michael Myers in it, but it's still a cool movie, IMO. This match was easy for me.

Company of Wolves is quite an excellent movie. It sort of relates itself to the Red Riding Hood story, with a werewolf twist to it. Recommended viewing.

Flowers in the Attic deals with two siblings who are locked away in their new home by their mother and grandmother, who want the wealth and estate, once their father passes away. The plot has nice twists as the movie progresses. Its an atmospheric, surreal and eerie movie. A so-so movie, not that bad.

Put in in your queue at Netflix or better still, blind buy the DVD if you can. You ll absolutely adore the movie, especially the twist at the ending. One of THE best endings in movie history, IMO.
