El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies arrested a 35-year-old man Saturday on first-degree murder charges after finding what is believed to be the body of the man's girlfriend wrapped in plastic and bound in duct tape inside the couple's Shingle Springs home, authorities said.

Tony McClung was booked into the El Dorado County Jail after deputies made the discovery early Saturday morning on Bramblewood Lane in Shingle Springs, El Dorado County Sheriffs Lt. Kevin House said.

House said the bizarre story began Friday night when an acquaintance of McClung arrived at the couple's home to pick up a car engine. When the acquaintance asked about McClung's girlfriend, McClung allegedly told the man she had choked on a piece of meat and died, House said.

The acquaintance left and immediately reported the conversation to El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies, who arrived at the home around 2 a.m. Saturday. Inside the master bedroom, investigators found a body under a blanket, tightly wrapped in cellophane and duct tape, House said.

A machine gun was also found in the bedroom and a blasting cap was discovered on the kitchen counter.

By late Saturday afternoon, House said the investigation was continuing and he could not confirm the identity of the victim. Several stains were also analyzed for traces of blood, House said.

McClung was reportedly in the process of moving to Oregon. Neighbors said the victim moved into the house last year, while McClung moved in just a few months ago.

Another man at the home when deputies arrived was detained and questioned before being released, House said.
