OK - thought about putting this in 'last movie seen' which it is but since no one ever responds to those posts - i thought i'd recommend Brick here.

Brick is a very indie film with some great acting and an amazingly well put together plot. shot on DV but it retains an amazing sense of editing and atmosphere (tough to pull off, but well done here)

the film is a 40s noir plot set in a modern day high school (complete with cliques, tough guys, and lots of drugs). somehow the filmmakers manage to pull this off without it being a parody - although there are many funny bits and its not played completely straight or realistic.

anyway, i thought it was really slick and fun and smart and wanted to recommend it to HDCers as a really cool non-horror film

Been wanting to check it out since I saw the trailer and read a couple reviews. I don't see it in stores around here so I might just order online.

Agree 100% Brick is cool. Aloving tribute to the words of Dashiell Hammett with the visual style of David Lynch.

Solid acting and a good, twisty plot mark an exciting directorial debut.

Well said!!! I rented this over the weekend and was thoroughly entertained. It's hard to believe the lead actor is the same goofy kid from Third Rock From the Sun. And Lukas Haas...absolutely priceless.

he was great - i completely forgot his TV character. . . the dialogue was so sharp and the cinematography so effectively funky (without being obtrusive)
