Anyone waiting for this upcoming Showtime series? It premieres in October and is based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter. The premise seems very interesting, and being handled by Showtime is a definite plus. The actor they chose to star is also top-notice. I'm thinking this might be a break-out hit, as far as HBO/Showtime series go.

Based on Jeff Lindsay's novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter," this new crime thriller tells the story of a strange man named Dexter Morgan. Once an abused and abandoned child, Dexter is now a successful forensics pathologist...but lurking just beneath his charismatic personality is a terrible truth. Dexter has corralled his innate homicidal urges into a closely guarded second career: He hunts down and brutally murders those vicious criminals who have managed to avoid the clutches of the law.

Tonights the night, and it's going to happen again, and again.

To stop a serial killer...
you have to think like one,
plan like one,
and hunt like one.

And for one forensic investigator,
that should be easy...
because he is one.

:) Apparently it's predicted to be the most-talked about show.

my friend Michael is starring in it. He said he's having a ball with this character and it's even darker than Six Feet Under.

The first episode was really great and creepy cool. If you don't get Showtime you are in luck. They are having free preview weekends for the next two weekends everyone with Cable or Satelite will have Showtime.

Two episodes in and I am hooked. Dexter Morgan is the most compelling tv character I've seen since Tony Soprano.

Great Show!

Seems like every horror forum I read has something on Dexter, so I checked it out over the past two days on OnDemand. I really like it. Michael C. Hall is great in the lead and Jennifer Carpenter looks pretty good too. I like the way they've set Dexter up against the Ice Truck Killer in an extended battle. That should make for some interesting TV. With MoH coming up too, it's definitely a good time for horror fans to have Showtime. :)

i already kinda love this show.....michael is great, his drab demenour and the dry tone of his voice fits perfect for this role......plus julie benz as his weird girlfriend. i like how we empathise and understand his character even tho he kills people but wev got no-one else to follow so are kinda stuck with him. and its not too far away from the death of 6ft under....nicley shot show.

Julie Benz has had a real wide range of acting roles in her career. This one is no exception. That's what people like about her.... she is not afraid to try to play something different. I was reading up on the show after watching it and this is what Michael C. Hall had to say about "Dexter"..... "Dexter is a cowboy who wears a 10-gallon grey hat. I think people should be torn. It fosters a sense of conflict- I'm rooting for someone who is doing something that I , along with pretty much everybody else , would on paper suggest is reprehensible."
I personally think that people will root for Dexter instead of Sgt . Doakes :) mrsbelalugosi13

I love this show! What a cool idea! I think I know who the Ice truck killer is already though. I predict that the killer is Dexters sister. I'm interested to know what you all think... am I crazy for thinking that?

Everyone has their theories but who knows you may be right. It is fun to use our imagination and think about different spoiler theories.... especially about a show that we just can't get enough of. I loved Jennifer Carpenter in "The Excorsicm of Emily Rose." She is great in this series too as Debra Morgan.

she is great but i think she gets overshadowed by julie benz....but both are really really good, just with benz being in buffy and angel for those fans

Absolutely addicted to this show. Just bought the first book a few weeks back, and I'm waiting until the series finishes until I touch it. Do a comparison of sorts, but I don't want anything to be spoiled in the meantime.

Oh, and it's been picked up for a full 13 episode first season, and another 13 episode second season. It's currently Showtime's #1 series, and it got there quite easily from what I heard.

SORT OF SPOILERS (just my thoughts, and guesses as to what will come)

In my opinion, I'd go against the theory that the killer is Dexter's sister. I'm not sure about it though. My mother thinks she is. "Come on Dexter, I want to play too!" had me rethinking my stance. But I'm sure it was just thrown in there to throw you off.

Tomorrow night couldn't come soon enough. :)

Dexter currently airs on Showtime (US) and The Movie Network / Movie Central (CAN).

i think "Weeds" and "Masters of Horror" are pretty popular shows. But, personally, don't think they can compare to Dexter. It's one of the best shows since "Six Feet Under". It's a great premise.

ive seen some weeds episodes and tis okay but havnt bothered to follow it....i loved 6 feet under since day one and david was my fav out of the two brothers....so was so happy to see him in dexter (when i first watched dexter i didnt know who was in it or anything bout it and as soon as i saw his profile in the car at the start of the pilot i said to my friend....is it? i hope it is? he asked who and i said that michael dude who plays david in 6 feet under oh i hope it is....and i was right....hes got a distinctive profile and voice....totally suits the character of dexter)

Masters of horror is a pretty unique series also. It's in it's second season. Famous directors make each episode different with their own creative qualities.
Each episode is like a minature movie.

But, the series "Dexter" is centralized around most of the same people every week so that they will have people waiting in anticipation every week. Wondering if Dexter will be caught. There is nothing on tv even remotely like it ...... and I am loving every minute of this wonderful series.

Some have theorized that D's sister is the Killer. I think it's too obvious, they WANT you to think it's her.
And last night I was wondering "How is he going to get out of this one?"
That makes a great show

the_real_linda
11-07-2006, 06:16 AM
yeah in the last episode debbie got to have lots of evil glares at dexter and you saw into their past some more...giving her a reason for it....it does seem obvious but i think she'd make a great killer

Wow. I love this series. Simple as that.
I'm a week behind the US broadcasts, so I just finished the seventh episode.

Anyone else think that Paul looks a LOT too much like Dexter for it to be just a coincidence in the casting department? Dexter WAS adopted, after all. Relation, perhaps? They look eerily similiar.

Also, anyone else have a suggestion that the KILLER might be the doctor? He wanted to find the PIECES? It's a long shot, but hey.

I swear everyone in this series is a suspect. Dexter's sister, the doctor, paul... you question everyone. Everyone seemingly has a motive.

i loved the ending of the last episode..it was sooooooo obvious and you were waiting for the 'ice killer' to ask who dexter was........dexters smile was so funny......he wasnt let down by this ameteur after all....yay

This show is one of the best television shows I have ever watched. The acting was just so superb and it was just very well written. I am happy that it was renewed and the new season will premire in October again. Five more months to go until it is back on. Thank God the other best show on TV (Entourage) is on during that five month break.

P.S. Rod you know Michael?

I was able to catch some of this during a free preview weekend, I think I saw the first three episodes and I was very impressed. I didn't figure it would last too long though, I was sure most people would be put off by the premise, and the point of view. But a very smart show. So good to see it is surviving. :D I am awaiting the DVD release, because I won't be subscribing to Showtime, I just wouldn't watch it enough.
