Well, I just got back from night #1
traditionally the best night to go - less people there, smaller lineups, and the guests are fresh and get to spend a lot more time with folks.
i'll be there all day tomorrow with my family and again on Sunday for the William Shatner/Leonard Nimoy special event so I'll have a lot more pictures then ..
but for now - in the order that i met them in :
Michael Barryman.
he signed my Hills Have Eyes DVD - of course ..

Funny part is she says I have to watch it because she watches all the football/sports stuff.
This is the same person who wanted to go to a World Series game for our anniversary, same person I met at a football game, same person who threw a cup at my head for turning off the Aggasi U.S. Open match for 2 seconds.
It's just not fair:(

I didnt fork over the $50 to get my picture with Alice Cooper ... but every time i was in a line for another guest he would brush past me on the way out the door for a smoke break - so i figured i'd get his autograph on my laserdisc of Prince of Darkness.
(not what he's signing in this pic... he just finished signing mine .. it was like a friggin production line)

each year there is one star who has such a body of work I'm so familiar with that after i meet them i'm left starstruck ..
KAren Black was the one from this year.
Still gorgeous - she was super cool. she thought my kid was cute :)
I got her to sign my DVD of Invaders from Mars .. It's the anchor bay release with Hunter Carson on the cover - who i didnt realize was her child in real life. she saw the DVD and said she wanted it - but she did sign it and give it back :)

this next guest was also one of the nicest people at the con .. Linda Blair. Some guy was chatting her up and she gave him the boot because she saw my son looking tired (we waited a long time in that line).
Then she insist my wife be in the picture (who was only going to take the picture - she didnt want to be in any) ... but Linda wasnt taking no for an answer .. she was really sweet and funny ... and RIPPED ! hard as a rock - she looks like she's about 25 years old.
She told us to use this pic as our christmas card this year :)

The longest line in the entire convention belonged to this lady : Carrie Fisher. she must have signed 5000 autographs Saturday afternoon. Out of all of them I was the only one who didnt give her something from Star Wars to sign (i gave her the slip cover from mt beta copy of Under The Rainbow which gave her a bit of a suprise. I love the movie so it meant a lot to me .. and i also know she tried to distance herself from Star Wars for a long time so i felt for her big time - dealing with an endless line of fanboys with the 'gold bikini princess Leia' photos they were going to put on ebay that night. I'll keep my signed movie for ever.

Next up - Juliet Landau
I guess people know her from Buffy (i dont) but I got her to sign The Toolbox Murders. She had a small part in Ed Wood with her dad and told me where to look for it int he movie .. she has about a 6" waist. Another nice girl and very popular at the con.

at this point - it was time for the photo, QnA, and signing for William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. they processed us through the photo session and the autographs like a meat packing plant but these guys were on a tight schedule - flying back to LA in the same evening. The money these fellows made in one afternoon is amazing. The Q and A was very entertaining and i laughed out loud the whole time (something i rarely do) they're both funny as hell, nimoy playing straight man to shatners animated funnyman.
if you ever get the chance to see these guys - take it - time flew by. if you dont get the chance - try to find Mind Meld - the film of them just chatting together about their experiences on Star Trek.
Thats the DVD cover i got them to sign for me. I have a big professional picture with me and my son with shatner and nimoy which i'll scan and post later (be warned - shatner looks like hell in it .. not a good reflection of how fun and alive he was in the session with nimoy)

the last guest was a suprise ... I had enough cash and patience to get one more guest's picture/autograph.
initially i wanted my son and i to get a pic with Roddy Piper (i got his autograph friday but i saved the photo for saturday when my son would be there - but we didnt get the chance)
so when i got out of the shatner nimoy thing my wife and son were somewhere alse and i couldnt find them ..plus - Roddy Piper was gone ... he was in his Q and A and wouldnt be returning.
so i thought - shit - the only guy left was Vern Troyer (Mini-Me) but every time i passed his line he didnt look like he was into the whole signing thing... but i thought what the hell ..
I still wasnt thrilled because my son wanted to meet him and he wasnt around. I figured i might as well do it - i brought Goldmember to get signed and the guests were quickly starting to leave so i got in the short line.
Man what a suprise ... he turned out to be one of the best guys there. He was talkative and super nice - my impressions from a distance were complete crap... I asked him about Michael Caine and we chatted about that for a bit ... if other people werent in the lineup i'm sure we could have talked for a long time ..
I asked him if i could get a picture of him and he asked... dont you want to be in it and started asking a guy to take my camera and get a pic of us .. when just then my wife and son miraculously appeared - perfect timing - so my son joined me for the pic.
he was eating this sticky gross sucker so i stopped him from shaking Verns hand just in time (that would have been lovely)
so we all did the 'knuckle rap' instead ..
a great way to end the con !

These are the guys who make you glad you came to the con ...
The guys who make films - and appreciate your interest in them ..

when you close your fist and just touch the knuckles together ..
Friday nights are always the best - or around dinner time or closing on the other nights (if there are any guests left)
the problem with Friday nights is that some of the guests dont show until the saturday...
Very nice pics urge. Good looking family you have there as well.

one of the proudest moments in my life came courtesy of Rue Morgue magazine. a band I was in (lead hollerin), and wrote all the songs for (including the ones mentioned in the review), got a badass review from them. however, as much as I hated it, I had to quit the band b/c I was moving away from Nashville. we were halfway through recording the album, so someone else had to take over vocal duties. on a side note, the guy who did the cover art is the same fella who did the cover for the Cramps's seminal album "bad music for bad people". anyway, thanks Rue Morgue!
(also, I'm really enjoying your pics from the festival! keep up the good work!)

That is a pretty mean review. Sounds like it would've been a fun band to be a part of. I'll have to keep an eye out for the album over here.

the only fashion choice i conciously make is NOT to wear some horror related t-shirt.
there's enough guys walking around with carefully picked obscure horror Ts ... they dont need one more - especially at my age.
