Let me start with this...I LOVE the work put into the HDC top 100 list. It is a Herculian task that is well thought out and greatly appreciated.

But...

No one will ever agree 100%.

What's theONE MOVIE movie on the HDC top 100 that bugs you the most?

For me - EVENT HORIZON

For the life of me, I don't see how Event Horizon comes anywhere close to a top 100 - let alone coming in a #42, 8 spaces higher than the original THE HAUNTING (easily in my top 10)

I have a few gripes about the order of the list, but I'm certain they are just my opinion...

Serpent & The Rainbow should be a lot higher than #98 in my opinion and TCM getting bubbled out of the top 10 (It got #11) makes me cringe. That's easily in my top 2 or 3.

So those two I thought should have been ranked better, and these ones I think should have been lower or omitted completely...

Phantasm #65 - This movie shouldn't even be on the list, nor should it be watched by anyone... ever.

The Ring #53 - This movie was sucked.

Audition #21 - 21??? Come on! There's 1 frickin' scene in the whole movie that's even remotely cool.

The Thing #4 - This is drastically over-rated in my opinion. It's an [/i]okay[/i] movie, but certainly not a better horror movie than anything ranked 1-15 on the list.

Anyways, those are my gripes. And yeah, Flayed is THE MAN for tabulating and orchestrating all of that.

I'll let you guys in on a couple of behind the scenes secrets here.

There were five movies in the lead at any given time. They were

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Halloween
Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
The Thing

The Thing was in the lea for the longest. The closest The Exorcist came was #2, but it was always one or two points behind The Thing at the time.

A Nightmare on Elms Street was the first movie to have the lead. I started the tallying after six lists were in. The next two lists to come in knocked it out of the top spot, and it never returned.

Until the last three lists, Night of the Living Dead was in the lead, with The Thing at #2, Dawn of the Dead at #3 & Halloween at #4.

I'm disappointed that I was the only person to give Exorcist III: Legion a vote.

Event Horizon was a well-made, thoughtful movie.

Maybe because of the 20 minute-cut [::due to "extensive gory scenes of the ship's crew going through extremely painful sexual pleasure before dying" ::] it suffered from the makers, it could not give the sucker punch to the audiences, but the rest was pretty good. Nice pace, excellent direction and good performances. Although #42 IS indeed a higher rank than I expected for it.

Se7en getting knocked out of the top 10 was a surprise. So was TCM. And I thought the Shining, the Exorcist and Omen would have done much better.

But still, a nice compilation. Kudos to Flayed for doing a great job and devoting so much time and energy to it.

Ive never even look3ed at it, to be honest, but I agree with Event Horizon not deserving to be included. I thought most of the acting was either forced or horrible. All of Paul Anderson's work has this glossy, empty feel to it, like it is missing something i cant quite put my finger on. Dont get me wrong, I dont hate it, i just dont thinkit is that great.

Kinda like resident Evil. i really did like it, and i ran out and bought it immediately when it came out, but.... Wathcing it again, it is an action movie with resident evil/horror trappings.

Basically, when i want horror, i want turkey. Paul Anderson's movies (for the most part) are like turkey loaf. Still enjoyable on some level, but it just isnt right.

Except for Alien Vs Predator.... That was a bag of old raw giblets that were left in the sun all day.

I was really surprised that while remakes like The House on Haunted Hill and Dawn of the Dead stormed up the list, classics like Child's Play weren't even in the running.

The alien/predator hybrid chestburster runs amok on the Predator ship, causing it to crash in smalltown USA

There's even a mom fresh back from the Iraq War (a soldier allowed to come home? total fantasy) who gives her daughter Night Vision goggles to prove there's nothing in the dark to be afraid of.

but of course there is...

LAME!

Holy pandering bullshit batman!

i am not at all surprised...

"its original, though"
"perhaps, but obvious."

AVP2: Predalien Critters

Paul Anderson is turning into the American Uwe Boll....

I agree with Vod. The acting in Event Horizon was HORRIBLE.
It could have been a Woody Allen horror flick for all the emotion the characters showed.

Although I can see your point Roderick,

it's like everything else in life guys... it's the proverbial "eye of the beholder."

Of course. It is, (and I also say this being the proud parent of the list that I am) I think a great general representation of harcore horror fans. No voting to the general public aka casual/bandwagon horror fans. No list compiled by a single mind. Just a long thought out vote put to around 30 hardcore horror fans from several different generations & lifestyles.

By the way, let me take this opportunity to give a VERY special thanks again to everyone who helped me compile it. Extreme props up to those of you who took the time to write blurbs for the movies we love so much.

My man zwoti for making it a sticky for everyone to see.

And of course, our very own lovable Bloodrayne, who has put up with me constantly PMing her blurbs and kindly editing the post so the list can be completed long after my editing option expired.

I really dont have a problem with the movies selected
because one man's trash is another man's treasure,
but the placement of some of this trash leaves me longing
for the sanitation truck.

The only problem I have with the list is 100% my own fault: I hate how there are so damn many that Ive never seen.

All the ones that I have seen certanly deserve their place (Screw you, I liked Event Horizon), with only one exeption: 28 Days Later. Ive been intending to purchase and re-watch this based on all the positive feedback around these parts, but I saw it not long after its release and Hated it. I wasnt a big horror fan at the time though...will give it another shot.

I'm almost embarrassed to say that i've never even looked at the list.[ i'm not much of a "list" guy]. But after giving it a glance, i've got to give Flayed kudos....very nice my man.
