What horror movies did you think had really sad endings.
I don't mean like, the original NOTLD, where the guy got shot at the end, i mean like......... whatever you thought was sad
I thought the very end to Silent Hill was pretty sad, once you realize the truth.

Not horror, but I was on the verge of tears at the end of Edward Scissorhands

Audrey Rose
I almost cried at the end of "The Village"...$7.50 x 4 plus drinks and popcorn...fucking heartbreaking.
I actually felt bad at the end of "The FunHouse"...poor misunderstood deformed oddity, just wanted to get laid.

It was certainly an unhappy ending, but that's what Silent Hill deserves. I'm gla they didn't wuss out and give it sappy happy ending.
Other unhappy endings(horror or otherwise):
Night Of The Living Dead(original)- stupid rednecks...
Cemetery Man- not really sure why, but it is...
American Beauty
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

not much of a spoiler .. you know 15 minutes into this film that it wont have a happy ending.. I live near Boston, and I typically like anythign from Clint, but i oretty much couldnt stand this movie... probably too familiar with the mindless boston assholes like Sean Penn's character....
The end of Alien 3 is sad. that poor woman goes through so much, just to have her life end like that... I thought ressurection shit all over what was a beautiful tie-up to the end of the series.

**************SPOILER ******************
the most painful part to me was tim robbins wife..
Vodstok

I dont recall that exactly.. i do remember it being bad, though
My all time worst part ever (i have posted this a dozen times) is Ed Harris (Bud Brigman) trying to revivie his wife in the Abyss.. Holy shit EVERY time i see that im a mess.
There is something about the strong male leads (especially someone like Ed Harris) cracking liek that that kills me... Kinda like Bruce WIllis getting all glassy eyed at the music on the radio in 12 Monkeys....
Doesnt hurt that they are 2 of my favorite actors.

yeah i like ed harris a lot too ..
that part of the abyss never got to me though ..

*Brigman sits in sub for a half hour*
"Hey, this Coke is gonna be so cold after being in this water."
*Swims back to moon pool*
"Where's Lindsey?"
"Who? oh. She's dead. Back in the sub. i left the door open so somehting will eat her."

Of course he brought the coke. He enjoyed it too. because, as you all know (at least if you are old enough to remember the 70s and 80s), Coke is IT.

I disagree.
I think your logic would work in most cases. But that's the beauty of the film. We side with the monsters.
And I actually didn't like Wydell.

i sure as hell didnt side with the scumbags ..
i wanted them to all die painfully and horribly.
was dissapointed that all they got was bullets - wanted to see them torn limb from limb.

I agree. One of the things I like most about the movie is that it makes you feel some sympathy for what you know are really bad people. I thing that's the mark of a good movie.

Plague Dogs, saddest ending ever. For me, not the characters. At least the dogs still had hope.

I may sound old, but I have two relatively dated movies which had -- what I would consider -- sad endings. Those are "Don't Look Now" and "Full Circle."
Effective flashbacks (especially of his wife and daughter) as well as the music made Don't Look Now's ending effective.
Full Circle's was eerie in one sense, and sad when you realize the torment Mia Farrow's character endured throughout the movie.

i really disliked dont look now. every time it's mentioned, i can only see donald Sutherland's skinny, hairy, naked ass. its kind of like biting into a bad pickle.. it just wont go away....

It wasn't necessarily "sad", in the sense, but everytime I see it I get a little emotional.
***SPOILER***
Him having been through so many crazy and hard things, and finally embracing death and Heaven. It's just a very touching ending.

thought i was the only one who felt this as well. i really wanted wydell to torture the hell out of them... though siding with him isn't much better either, seeing how twisted he obviously was as well.
