Have you seen phantoms? it's based on a book by dean koontz, who's pretty good....I found the movie kinda had a freakout atmosphere going for it...

this one isn't scary (even though it's supposed to be), it is a corny 80's horror film called Rawhead Rex.

Some that have always freaked me out and I'd recommend (all IMHO):
Ringu
Halloween
Candyman
The Last House on the Left
The Exorcist
Pumpkinhead
Versus (doubt Hollywood Video would have that :P )

I would go with:
Ringu
Excorcist
TCM (orig.)

VERSUS freaked you out? How can Versus elicit any feelings except awesomeness?

The prophecy.
I dunno about the sequels, but the first one was a very dark, kinda scary movie...I gotta wonder, due to her lack of reply, if the ol' backbone is even looking at these...?

in my opinion, both Blockbuster and Hollywood video have pretty sucky horror sections in their stores... i remember i went to my local Hollywood Video store...and asked if they had 'Puppet Master' because i couldn't find it in the horror section...they didn't know what i was talking about! What the FUCK are you doing working at a video store...you STUPID piece of SHIT!!

A good George Romero flick you should see is Bruiser.
Psychologically it had some great horror moments

How about Rosemary's Baby? It may not be violent or even fast-moving, but it has a freak-out factor
