this just seems lame that someone would do this. I mean have they really ran out of ideas. I mean come on,"snakes on a plane". what the hell is next birds on a boat. I saw the movie and there was no solid plot to it. It wasnt even scary because they spelled it out to you as you walked in. I ask you if you like this why?

I like cheesy action movies and I thought it was funny. I think that was the idea which was executed very well.

Horror can be funny. I laughed my ass of at Dead Alive, but you wouldn't classify that movie as anything but horror, really.

You know all of those people running around saying "Snakes on a Plane is stupid! I don't get why people want to see this! What's wrong with the industry!"? Welll, personally, I think they are the stupid ones for not realizing that this is not meant to be taken seriously.
Honestly, come on people. Let's walk into The Holy Grail and call it stupid.
And yes, he DOES think its FUNNY, because THAT WAS THE POINT. "You think a horror movie was funny?"
Evil Dead. Return of the Living Dead. Re-Animator. Nameless others.
They are all horor movies. They are all comedies. Snakes on a Plane wasn't even all that much a horror, more of an action/thriller - and even then, I'd put it's main category as 'Comedy'.
And to call it stupid, yes, it is. Like I said before, that's the point. But here you have tons of legions of fans that love countless action films. Films that defy gravity, realism, anything. For christ sake's someone could FUCKING blow up in a car and just roll out unscratched and they'd just be like "WOAH THAT WAS FUCKING KICKASS DOOD."
In SoaP, as stupid as the movie is - and wants to be- it isn't entirely brainless. The plot makes sense, the events make sense. They give an explanation where things need to be explain. In other movies you could sit there and say "Why don't they just ____?" In this movie, they say THYE DON'T FUCKING DO THAT BECAUSE OF THIS!!!
The AC is broke. The lays were laced with pharamones. One venom didn't solve everyone's issues. Not eveyone lived.
Of course there were far-fetched moments, but really.
I'm just sick and tired of why people don't simply understand that...

it's not meant to be scary, it's meant to be venomous snakes on a plane and Sam Jackson yelling a lot. It's like all the cheesiness of one of those Sci-Fi channel original movies but without the delusions of actually being a serious work of film. Snakes on a Plane is Mansquito but without taking itsself seriously. It gave in to the fans liking it because it was what it was, and that only made people like it MORE. Hell, they re-shot stuff to give the audience what it wanted to hear!

First of all horror movies can be funny, do I go into a horror movie primarily to get a laugh? no, but if it's suppose to be funny(Army of Darkness) or funny parts come up(American Psycho) then yes I laugh, that's what people do when they see something funny doesn't matter if it's in a horror movie. There's nothing crazy about it.
Secondly, It's not a horror movie, it's an action movie. A cheesy action movie, no more no less.
Third, you've said ''there was no solid plot'' and ''but it wasn't solid''...wanna elaborate a little?

How do you figure? How was it any less of a plot than, say, Hostel?
Just because the title clearly depictcs the plot, doesn't mean there sin't one, or that it wasn't solid.

I'm finding it difficult to find the "point" of your argument, halloweenfreak. You didn't like the movie because it wasn't "solid", and you say horror movies shouldn't be funny... and yet, the movie is successful by opposing your points.
So what are you mad about? The fact that something you don't like is liked by others?

The CGI dampens it a bit though - people say it is the only way to achieve certain things (in this case, make snakes attack people without making snakes attack people) but I'm not sure that should give a green light to everything.
Films will be made very soon where the reliance on CGI is more significant than the film itself - this is very bad. Computer games should be the only entertainment allowed to throw so many pixels around, since they are interactive in this way. Go to a light/laser show if you want to see such flash, and leave movies with their rubber and latex monsters and prosthetics.

Some cgi is very well done, the plane scene in Superman is damn near seamless.

i still like CGI when it is used to make the impossible possible (dino's ... impossible landscapes, etc)
but yeah, if you can do it convincingly otherwise ... then it hurts the film.
(the CGI blood in the new Zatoichi film being the worst example ever)
the most disturbing trend to me is all of these movies with the blue CGI hue ...
Hellboy
underworld
van helsing
league of extraordinary gentlemen,
etc etc etc ...
there has to be a way to make fantastical landscapes look like natural light ??

Q. Why do people go out of their way to hate Snakes On a Plane?
A. Because when a movie gets big marketing and a lot of advertising and a big fan base people feel like they're intelligent to go against that movie.
Just because a movie has a good advertising campaign, doesn't automatically make it stupid. I like to think of myself as a very intelligent and literate film-watcher, and I quite enjoyed the movie. So there.

It's interesting that the front end of this film combined with witnessing the product in its entirity produces such backward and degenerate conclusions.
1] It's Snakes on a Plane - how fuckingly awesomely simple!
2] How shit - it was just Snakes on a Plane.
Truly, a significant film of these times.
