View Full Version : What have I done????

I started my online Veterinary Technician course last night. Got a 95 on my first exam, but it was easy stuff - Independent Study. I'm waiting for the hard stuff - Anatomy and all that.

Am I insane going for a career change at age 47?????

No, you fucking rule for going for it. I've changed careers three times in my adult life and each time it sparked a period of personal growth (and fear) that has sustained me.

I wish you all the best in this endeavor - who better than a horror fan to master the knowledge of innards?

Kick as Hammer!

Always a plus to have one more skill under your belt. If it gives you another option, then it's a good thing and I agree, go for it!

Kick Ass too ;)

I personally have never seen anyone try to make atransition later in life that wasnt extremely successful as a result.

Not quite the same timeline, but when i was 25 i decided I HAD to finally get a job with computers. As a result, my income has progressed as follows:
(in $1000 yearly)
$16 (as a woodworker) to $28
$28 to $32

then in the same year:
$32 to $38
$38 to $47

$47 to $50

this year

$50 to $90 +

Follow your dream. I know it sounds cheesy, but if you are at all good at it, you will do great. now, all i need to do is have more time to write...

It's an admirable thing to do and shows you have great character.
I wish you all the best and more.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate it!

This is something that has been gnawing at me for a long time. When I was going in the Air Force and took my ASVAB, vet tech was one of the jobs that I qualified for. At the time I was 23 and already working as a secretary. So, instead of going for my heart's desire, I took the "safe" route and went with what I was already doing. I can't help but think if I had gone for it back then, and with the Air Force paying for school, I could probably be a veterinarian by now. So, when I saw this online school I decided to go for it. You can't go through life regretting "what might have been", can you?! I'm scared as hell, but I'm going to stick with it!

This is the best time to make a life changing decision like this IMO, you have all the life skills and experience to make it happen, and if it doesn't or you don't like it then you still have all the knowledge, skills and experience from your former jobs to fall back on

And when it feels like it's tough going, remember, there's always us to have a moan to, everyone here will soon raise your spirits, you won't be down for long ;)

Go for it Girl and Good Luck to you  :) :)

You're NEVER to old to be in control of your own life, choose what direction it's going to go in, and do whatever you want to do

I'm very happy for you :)

Wow! You've gotten 95 on all of your tests so far haven't you? That's great!

You're really inspiring. I got laid off from my job and am wondering if I should just go get another job in the same field or try something different. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm too much of a chicken-shit to go back to school. :(

Keep us posted on how the rest goes and congratulations! Go hammerfan go! :)

Mona-I hear ya sister.
I have been contemplating this myself for about 4 years now.
I thought also, maybe I should try and start a small business as well...but have been too chicken- beyond writing up a business plan.

I wish a really cool career would just fall into my lap....where do I find the sign-up sheet for that?

I think after the baby, I am at least going to sign up for maybe 1 night class just to get my feet wet.

Also-have you ever thought about an on-line college?

Test #4 Handling and Restraint
Score: 95

Woo hoo!!

Next up: History and Examination

To monalisa: If I can do it at age 47, you can do it, girlfriend! Like a few people here told me at the beginning, you're never too old to follow your dream. And this has been my dream for about 20 years!

My next set of books after History and Examination is about computers. From what I've been reading on the student discussion board, it's pretty darn boring. Oh well. After that is Biology - yikes!

my cats fucking insane hes going crazy and running all over with a sock in his mouth yawling at me !

Um, Dave? He's still a kitten. You can expect this behavior until he's at least 1 year or older.

So, I've had a really shitty day. My sister and I went to Delaware Park for a little slots action. I used the valet parking because it's so freaking cold here today. We come out of Delaware Park, I give the valet the ticket for my car, and he proceeds to crash my car. So, I'm now carless ~ and thinking of suing Delaware Park.

hammerfan
01-20-2007, 01:25 PM
how the fuck did he do that ?

Speeding - he hit the car in front of him which belonged to the ladies who were waiting next to us for their car.

hammerfan
01-20-2007, 01:29 PM
well how bad was it...are you ok ? was the guy drunk ?

I'm fine other than being mad as hell. If the guy was drunk I will OWN Delaware Park!
