What he said as far as I know.

There was this theatre in New Orleans that gave out certain things for big movies. Like Pirates of the Caribbean they probably would've had swords, Snakes on A Plane they probably would've had rubber snakes ect. No magazines though.

I can't recall with movie it was offhand, but
they gave out barf bags at the cinema with the movies name. There are many other examples. Usually lower budget/shock films that need a gimick to draw people in.

I hate these things.

Same thing as watching "Entertainment Tonight" or shit like that....more about the "celebs" than the movies:rolleyes:

I never saw Slithis in the theatres but I wanted to because I wanted my free Slithis Survival Kit which they were giving away. Supposedly it had a xerox photo of the monster so you would know what it looked like, and a sheet of instructions on what to do if you encountered one of them.

I did get a little booklet when I saw Beetle Juice the first time, it had pictures of different types of ghosts and descriptions of them, and a couple of collectible stickers. I still have one of the stickers.

We only get Tribute around here, since that's the only theatre chain we have. Oh, and a stand-alone Apollo way up at the top of the province. But they only show three movies at a time.

The only free thing I ever got from a movie was... Pokemon cards, and a rubber snake & comic from SoaP.

They're giving away little rubber snakes at Snakes on a Plane? That's wonderful! Yes, a very good idea. Good, fun marketing.......cheese factor, self-generating advertising for the film, free toy, what's not to like.

i hope its a trend ..

there should be a little more excitement and fun going to the theatre .. especially for us folks that have to fork over $$$ for a babysitter and end up dropping about $60 - $70 total to see a movie.

Yeah, see, when I say this is "good" marketing, what I mean is, they probably didn't get one of those research centers to call thousands of people and ask them survey questions like "How would you feel about being handed a rubber snake by an usher as you walked into a theatre to see a movie about snakes? Would you be mildly excited, somewhat excited, very excited or not at all excited?"

No, this is some crazy executive types, probably back from a martini lunch, sitting around a table with a silly idea. "I think we should hand out rubber snakes to everyone who shows up on the first day!" And everyone okays it because if they went to see the movie, THEY would enjoy getting a rubber snake. It's a little more human, a little more real.

It might have been just the premiere, Thursday 10PM. I'll see when I go again tomorrow night if I'm handed another. It basically went like this;

*Nervously waits in line, moving forward, trying to pass as 18+*
Usher: Wanna snake?

They're about 27" long.

Then she comes in again while we're sitting in the theatre and hands out the little comic fold-ups.

:p

The snakes even had SoaP tags on them. Sadly, mine tore off on the way home. :(
