WOOOOO! SNAKES ON A PLANE!
The movie kicked ass (not in the sense that it was a well made movie, but in the gloriously cheesy kinda way), and the audience was way into it. Fun times all 'round

So....... What kind of movie is it exactly?
Horror? Comedy? Action?
WHAT????

It's all three rolled into one.
This really is a movie you have to see with a theatre full of SoaP nerds. Premiere was excellent. In this small city, the theatre was PACKED. There were literally only two or three seats left 5 minutes to the show.
It was pretty much the most fun I've had with a movie. The audience laughed hysterically, and clapped after every kill, and "awed" sarcastically at the honeymooners "It was where you wanted to go." line. :p
I'm definately going to go see it again. I'd say it definately lived up to it's hype for me. Shame people aren't going to see it becuse they think it looks "stupid". Blind as a bat, I tell you.

The official comic strip they gave out is 10x better. :p I wish I had a scanner, but then again, it's probably already online. :) It's done similiarly to the awesome poster.
So, who got the rubber snakes and who didn't? We did, and we're bot that big of a city. Toronto did. I'm wondering if they only give them out at the premiere, or at every showing?

the best thing aout SOAP is that it proved everyone wrong. once everyone heard that SOAP wasn't going to have advance screenings, everyone thought that it was going to bomb and be a horrible horrible film, becuase usally when a movie isn't screened in advanced it is met with horrible reviews, ie. ultraviolet.
but SOAP is fresh with a rating of 62% percent on rotten tomatoes.
god bless it.
i wonder what it would of been like if eli roth directed it? because on his myspace page in one of his blogs he talk about how he passed it up, cuz he thought he sounded stupid.

After the internet buzz, is the astounding revelation "It's Snakes... on a Plane!" starting to wear thin yet? Yeah - we get it.
Also, are those ghastly CGI serpents I see before me?

Actually, real snakes were used. They had an interview on our CBC that my mom caught at work (I wouldn't have listened to it myself, it's CBC...). The extra's did interact with real snakes for certain scenes, but Jackson did all of his with a green screen.
The CGI snakes are present, because, well... duh. They're biting and snapping at people. And being sucked out of a plane. And being tazered and shot.

Did the rating for this movie change for anyone else? The first night, premiere, it was rated 18A in Canada. Now, it's PG14. Intact with breasts in the mile high scene...

Why couldn't they just do all this with real snakes?

If you were an actor would you want to be bitten by a real snake, even with the venom removed? Could you train snakes to move the exact way you wanted them to without years of preperation? If you were Samuel L. Jackson who hates motherfucking snakes, would you want them to co-star alongside you? And the fact PETA would sue your mofo ass for harming them in all the kill scenes.
Are you one of those who likes to poke where things shouldn't be poked?

I was similarly disappointed with the use of CGI dragons in Reign of Fire.
Why can't actors and filmmakers toughen up a little and learn how to act alongside with and train these beasts so they don't have to fall back on computer trickery?
They could even have little elongated trailers where the snakes can relax in between scenes.

in all seriousness .... the money is the largest factor ..
the wranglers, SPCA involvement, insurance rates go up, and the actors - even minor ones - have to be paid more for being in 'potentially dangerous situations'
there's a scale for things like that .. sort of danger pay - and it involves things as silly as stepping out of a boat, etc ..

They say that soon even actors will all become CGI, and that'll save Hollywood even more money.
It's an increasingly less preposterous idea.

I had an idea on how they could replicate the theater atmosphere, since without the crowd, the movie loses a bit of its charm (speaking from experience, having seen it twice in two days, once with the awesome crowd and once with a crowd that would be perfectly fine for any movie besides SOAP), they should do what they did for the Sin City SE. Have a seperate audio track with audience reactions from the premiere.

they made a movie about that 25 years ago
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082677/
but - yeah undeniably it comes down to
1) money
2) create something otherwise impossible
I'll take CGI dinosaurs over stop motion anyday - no matter how much work is involved in the stop-mo.

I love stop-motion animation a la Harryhausen style :D
Anyways, SOAP was WAY better than I had anticipated, the deaths, the T & A, the vicious tramplings, the wicked catch phrase, "I've had it with these Mother****ing snakes on this Mother****ing plane!!"....all ingredients for an awesomely cheese filled "when animals attack" flick.
I can't wait for the DVD....hopefully, it'll be chaulked full of extras.

Is The American Theatre Crowd really the whooping, cheering, slightly-in-need-of-Valium collective the rest of the world have watched on TV with some bewilderment?

I thought this was awesome.
I saw it in theaters, and everytime I brought it up anywhere people automatically assumed it sucked.
Me: "Did you see Snakes on a Plane?"
Them: "Hahahaha, no! That movie's a fucking joke!"
Me: "So...you didn't see it..."
Them: "Because it sucks!"
Ignorant, media-controlled fools.

I thought it was just an average movie, BUT
***** Spoiler*****
It had what I found to be one of the funniest moments in recent memory, when the annoying Brit throws the dog to the snakes to save his hide!! I laughed so hard on that one I nearly choked!

Exactly! This is what pissed me off the most.
People wouldn't even give it a chance, not one,
they just assumed it sucked and wouldn't listen otherwise.

When it first came out and I saw the trailer while watching another movie, I have to admit that i didnt think it was that good -=hides from sailing bad fruit, if any is thrown=- but from friends and other people who have gone and seen it, i've deduced that it is a worthy movie and i will have to rent it out some time....
i think i got put off becuase of the tittle. its very basic...but i guess when you're making a movie about snakes on a plane, then well its the pefrect title.

The only thing that plagues this movie is... you can't watch it alone. It's an audience film. And the audience has to be into it just as much as you want to be. I saw the Thurdsay Midnight showing, and the audience was made up of fans who had been anticipating it just as much as I was. Best theatre experience I've ever had.

No offense, but this is exactly what I'm talking about. Because of its immediate cult status, it earned a bad rep.
You say that you haven't seen it, but, judging from the trailer, you "didn't think it was that good". You haven't seen it yet!
The other thing is that I don't think the plot is as simple as the title or the false rep its gotten implies.
Do you like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Because that title reveals as much about the film as 'Snakes' does about its film.

Thats what I was trying to say, I was one of those people who fobbed it off before even viewing the film. But I've learnt that it actually might be a good film, I'm waiting to see it now.
I wasn't in anyway saying it was crap, because well lets face it, some of the best movie's can have pretty bad publicity. And some of the best publicised movie's tend to fall flat on their face for me.
Except 300, I dont see that being a flop at all.
But "Snakes..." looked crap the first time I viewed the trailer, but now I'm kind of warming to it. I'm going to rent it as soon as it comes out.
