I'll start this one off with the new "Miami Vice" ST.
Excellent mixture of styles, new and old stuff...a few remakes that are pretty well done (despite Phil Collins greatness, I'm really liking the "nonpoint" cover of "in the air tonight), and additional musical score tracks are pretty good too.
Haven't yet seen the movie, but this here soundtrack is near perfect IMO. Well worth checking out.
So, what are some great movie soundtracks from the past and present?
The Crow
Forrest Gump
Devils Rejects

Clerks, Devil's Rejects, O Brother Where Art Though?, S.F.W., Dazed and Confused, Rock and Roll Highschool, and I liked the Stigmata soundtrack too. Countless others would be on my list...

there are a lot of soundtracks i have that have only one decent song on them ..
I know what you did last summer (or the sequel?) has 'Hush' which i like
I love the big concert song from School of Rock
10 things i hate about you has a couple of great covers by Letters to cleo
Shallow Grave is a great soundtrack..
Danny Boyle is a director - as is Michael Mann - who have a great ear for music - and what will marry perfectly with their films ..

the problem with a lot of 'various artist' soundtracks is that they sometimes mix genres of music so badly ..
a couple of cools songs and the rest - bublegum crap..
nothing that would please any one person

I get a lot of interesting songs and covers on soundtracks I couldn't/wouldn't get otherwise. I remember the Ready to Rumble soundtrack had Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa doing Hit Me Baby One More Time... love that tune.

Suprised no one's mentioned The Big Chill. I was listening to that soundtrack long before I saw the movie.
Judgment Night was a good one aswell. Various couplings of Rap with Metal/Alternative bands. The Mudhoney song was really rad.
Sonic Youth with Cypress Hill is a dope track strangley enough about smoking dope :D
I like soundtracks with unreleased material from great bands but these days its cutting room floor shit.
The Over The Edge soundtrack (must find a copy of that flick too) is decent Ramones, Cheap Trick, ect.

Rammstein and Static X have made a few soundtracks...you'd consider them "dance metal/tech metal"?
That probably doesn't help much.
Agreed on the Big Chill soundtrack, overplayed as all fuck, shit, I've never even seen the movie.

One of my all time favorites is The Terminator theme, I actually have that on my MP3 player, and listen to regularly.

one i used to listen to all the time at work was Chris Vrenna's score for American McGee's Alice. Good moody music.

Just heard a track that made me remember this one...
The soundtrack and musical scoring/narrated interludes of the first TMNT movie was really well done...some of the music is a little dated now, but it worked alongside the movie, and as an independant soundtrack I liked it too.

The upcoming "nightmare Befroe Christmas" double album sounds promising.
It is the straight soundtrack on one disc and the second disc is all covers. Maralyn Manson is covering "This is Halloween"
Can't you just hear it?

From FANGORIA.COM
Manson’s own version of the raucous opening track “This is Halloween” will appear on the special-edition soundtrack, as will additional covers by such bands as Fall Out Boy (performing “What’s This?”), Panic! at the Disco (delivering their own take on “This is Halloween”) and She Wants Revenge (performing “Kidnap the Sandy Claws”), with songstress Fiona Apple contributing a cover of “Sally’s Song.”
