Could it be San Jose fugitive Christopher Chapanar wanted to get caught?

It seems Chapanar -- a parole absconder for more than a year -- couldn't resist putting his mug on MySpace.com, most recently bragging about his newborn son. And that's just where viewers of the Bay Area cable-access show ``Fugitive Watch'' found him.

Turns out it was easier to hide from authorities than the millions of people who visit the popular Web site. Naturally, calls poured in.

But when San Jose police came calling Tuesday, the 23-year-old wasn't quite done hiding.

After officers staked him out at a West San Jose home about 4 p.m., the proud papa jumped 20 feet from a second-floor window, landed on the hood of a parked car and ran into a nearby Bonfare Market. Officers found him in the bathroom, said Steve Ferdin, executive producer of ``Fugitive Watch'' and an ex-San Jose cop.

Chapanar, who served prison time for trying to run someone over but failed to report to his parole agent, was finally caught.

``This is the first time we've caught a fugitive with his own Web site,'' Ferdin said of the show's 901st capture.
