What is the scariest opening sequence of a movie ever? I'm talking like first 10 minutes. I'm still going with When a Stranger Calls.

Not Horror but certainly HORRIFYING, the opening sequence to Saving Private Ryan..... beach scene.

Opening to Dee Synders Strangeland.... scarey cuz on any given day it could happen, not likely to meet up face to face with Jason, or Michael...

Good answers man. Dee looked crazy as hell in Strangeland.

Another movie would be Wrong Turn.... movie really wasnt that great, kinda had that "Hills have eyes, and TCM" feel to it, but the fact that I work like 5 miles from the area where that was placed is a bit eerie.
Hmmmmm come to think of it, I live around alot of places that the horror flicks are filmed lol....
Mothman Prophecy
Blair Witch Project
Wrong Turn
Night of the living dead
and a boat load of X-files lol
hmmmmmm no wonder real estate is getting cheaper. :D

I live then opening "bird's eye" camera work with the trademark Kubrick music in "The Shining".

Suspiria, but I can't remember if the kill took place in the first 10 minutes.

and I've gotta admit, Resident Evil (first 15 mins...) had the first couple of scenes down....music was pretty well done too.
AND....the prophecy.

The Scream beginning completely ripped off When a Stranger Calls.

I'd definatley have to agree with When A Stranger Calls. The opening and climax of this film put the shits up me everytime.
.....and as mentioned before Suspiria (made me feel REAL fucked up when I first saw it).

"Vampire Hunters" has a nice opening scene. Perhaps not the scariest ever, but the introduction of the vampire character is pretty intimidating.

When A Stranger Calls was the first thing I thought of...
But Dog Soldiers started out really cool, too
I can't really think of anything recent....I think Saw started out okay...

They're kinda "mainstream" but Scream 1 and The Ring's opening scenes scared me the first time I saw them, and they still scare me now.
NOTLD is another notable one. But that whole movie is just amazing, so its hard to pick one scene.

Sleepy Hollow had a pretty creepy opening scene, it had that "live theatre" feel to it, but it was still creepy.
But if we're going all out "most badass", then From Dusk til Dawn.

You're right about from Dusk til Dawn. The opening sequence is righteous (to use a term from the eighties). The crazy counter dude was a cool character with the fact that it was about three minutes of great acting while acting. He didn't go down easily either. That was cool.
